the request: Can you write one with maverick where he and the reader are in the middle of sex and he stops saying he's regretful and shouldn't do this to her and she keeps thinking that she is the problem and starts crying (but the reality is that he feels dirty because of the age gap between then)?
You can decide the end and it can be light nsfw (it doesn't have to be heavy nsfw). read it in full here
the songs i listened to whilst writing this: yebba's heartbreak - drake, yebba, the color violet (slowed) - tory lanez
The rain pelted at the windows as Maverick's wet tongue licked a warm stripe up your neck, his fingers tenderly coming to rest upon your cheek. You watched as his eyes shot up to yours, blinking slowly, as he pulled a quiet moan from your parted and bruised lips. A smile found your features and you gazed up at him, your fingers resting on his back, slowly trailing down and slipping underneath the white tee that he currently wore. Maverick's soft eyes twitched at your cold touch grazing against his warm skin, and you giggled at his reaction, planting a sweet kiss against his smiling lips.
"What are you laughing at?" He whispered, his teeth poking out from the smile that spread from ear to ear.
"Nothing." You responded, sighing softly. Never had you been this happy and content. "Just you... being cute." Another quiet giggle escaped you and it made Maverick's smile widen.
"Cute?" He repeated, raising his brows in an incredulous manner as he beamed from above you. You nodded your head at him, grinning this time. You and Maverick had been dating for a couple months, and he was reluctant to do so due to the age gap that sat between you two, however you assured him it was okay with you. In fact, it was sort of a turn on for you. In Maverick's mind, he loved you, truly he did, but he couldn't help but feel that lingering pang of guilt in his heart. He believed you deserved someone younger than him - someone that could live longer than he might do. The man couldn't ignore the intrusive thoughts that invaded his mind either; the ones where he despised himself for doing such a thing as dating a young thing like you. He couldn't help but feel... dirty, in a way.
"What's wrong with that?" You frowned, letting your fingers slip to the top of his blue jeans, poking in for a brief second. Your grin widened in amusement as you watched his face twitch again from your advances. "A lil' sensitive, Mav?" You teased.
The gentle rumble of a chuckle resonated from your boyfriend's chest, and you felt a fiery shiver smother your body. "You're a little confident tonight, huh?" Maverick narrowed his eyes at you, his tongue poking against the inside of his cheek in a curious manner. You narrowed your eyes back at him, bringing your fingers up to his chest to fist his shirt, pulling him downwards so his lips would connect with yours. An appreciative, low hum vibrated against your lips as Maverick caved and kissed you, his fingers moving from your cheek to your hair, massaging your scalp. The pair of you got lost in the lustful kisses you shared as the chorus of raindrops pattering against the glass windows echoed throughout the room, almost as if nature had produced music just for you two. Moonlight pierced through the lacy, white curtains, casting a patterned shadow over your bodies as you kissed on Maverick's messy and now-dishevelled bed.
As the kiss deepened, your hands swiftly slipped underneath Maverick's shirt in a desperate attempt to rid him of his clothes, your fingers craving the warm, smooth surface of his well-toned and muscular body. Maverick got the hint and he quickly removed his hands from your hair and skimmed them underneath the hem of his shirt, pulling the article of clothing off and throwing it behind him. You let your fingers roam free across his torso, relishing in the unspeakable noises that you were prying from his pink, swollen lips. His long fingers soon returned to your writhing body, finding the straps of your old, greying white tank top. He slipped a strap down, his rough hands caressing the soft curve of your shoulders. A quiet moan left your lips as you quickly slipped your hands underneath your shirt and removed it as quick as Maverick did his. The cold night air soon shivered over your body and you felt goose bumps erupt on your skin from the sudden change in temperature.
Maverick pulled away from your lips gradually, beginning to trail his lips across your jaw, peppering small, sweet kisses down your neck, his eyes never leaving yours as you watched him. Your hands enveloped his head, fingers burying themselves selfishly within his thick, dark hair, gently squeezing as his teeth grazed against your supple skin. The air that surrounded the pair of you was hot and heavy. You gasped as Maverick nibbled against the mound of your breast, his tongue giving soft licks against the skin, his eyes closing slowly as he let his hands wander your bare, naked torso. Swallowing thickly, you shuffled a little impatiently, reaching your hands to his jeans to fumble against the button and zipper. Maverick's spare hand caught your hungry hands and raised them and slid his gaze up to meet yours once more.
"Wait," He mumbled, the low-pitched tone of his voice sending your mind reeling. You whined at his actions - you were desperate for him, more specifically you were desperate for him to be inside you. You wanted to be as close as possible to Maverick; the affair between your body and his was so vital to you. In defeat, you let your head loll back against the fluffy pillow behind you, and you relaxed your hands as Maverick let go of them, his own ones returning to pay some overdue attention to your chest. His deft fingers kneaded your soft flesh, tongue poking out of his mouth to circle your awaiting nipple. At the warm touch, he pried a hushed moan from you and a proud smile reached his lips as he continued his nightly endeavour.
"Oh, Pete," You moaned quietly, fingers finding themselves gripping strands of his hair again. "That feels amazing." Your back arched out of instinct from the pleasure that Maverick was currently providing you with his expert tongue and lips. Daring to let your hands slide down to his waist again, you let your hands rest on his hips, giving them a gentle squeeze. "Please, Pete," You begged. Maverick looked up from your breasts, watching your face twist into an expression of desire. He smiled at you, and gave way to your beautiful face. The pilot adored how he made you feel - the way your cheeks flushed pink with heat, the way your eyes glinted with a sparkling mix of lust and love, the way you bit down on your lip in an attempt to suppress forthcoming moans. Maverick sat up, his hands falling to his jeans and you eagerly watched him unbutton them, revealing a pair of tented black boxers. You whined at the sight, your fingers quickly discarding the underwear that was secreting your soaking mound.
As Maverick shuffled toward you, he seemed reluctant, making your mind suddenly scurry with anxious thoughts. Maverick noticed your change in aura, and he felt the guilt return to him. He quickly threw you a reassuring smile and you seemed to relax again as he slipped his fingers underneath the band of his undergarments, removing them completely. Nothing changed about how you felt about Pete's appearance every time you saw him in the nude. As a matter of fact, you fell deeper in love with him each time your eyes explored his magnificent form. You'd thrown the anxious thoughts behind you as he came closer to you, his breath heavy, pressing the tip of his thick cock against your anticipating, wet folds. But the way Maverick carried himself made you doubt yourself again. Moments later, a heavy sigh drew from his lips and you felt your eyes well up with tears the moment he pulled away, quickly slipping his boxers back on. He slipped onto the edge of the bed and you felt the mattress sink down from his weight.
"Pete..?" You quietly asked and swallowed back tears. Peering up at him as he sat on the edge, you felt your heart sink when you saw how his hands held his head, elbows resting against his knees. "Are.. are you okay?" You couldn't hide the way your voice cracked out of sorrow at the end. Maverick instantly looked back at you and a meek smile picked at the corners of his lips.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine, sweetheart." He assured you, turning back to face the ground again. Silence consumed the room you two sat in, the loud rain having stopped some time ago. Your hands slowly reached to pick up your underwear and tank top that was strewn across the side of the bed, slipping it on. Was it something you said or did? Does he not like how you look anymore? Why is he acting like this? Thousands upon thousands of doubts and gut-wrenching questions ran through your mind and you couldn't help the tears that began to spill down your cheeks.
Maverick's head perked up at the sound of your sobs, and he turned around to face you, his face falling at the sight of you. "Oh, sweetheart, no, don't cry." He sighed, rushing to press his body against yours in a hug. His strong arms enveloped your smaller figure and you sobbed harder, your teardrops sliding down your cheeks gleaming like diamonds in the moonlight that shone through the parted curtains.
"Did I do something? I-is it me?" You cried softly, sniffling. Maverick shut his eyes as he felt his body go limp, his heart wrenching at how he could have let you think this was your fault. He was a fool through and through.
"Y/N, no, it's not you," He whispered against your hair. "It's.. I.." Maverick stumbled as he shook his head, making you look up at him through your teary, wet lashes. "I feel like I'm taking advantage of you, Y/N." He finally said. You instantly frowned, the crease between your brows making the corner of Maverick's lips twitch into a tiny, sad smile.
"You're being ridiculous, Mav." You were speechless at his confession. How on earth could he feel like that? Did you make him feel like that? A feeling of guilt suddenly hit your chest. "Baby, I didn't make you feel like that, did I?" Your voice was soft and shaky, laced with worry.
"No, no," Maverick hummed through pursed lips, biting down on his lower lip as he watched you nuzzle your head into his bare chest. "Sometimes I feel like you deserve someone younger than me, sweetheart. I feel like I shouldn't be doing this, like I'm wasting your time. Don't you want someone like... Rooster?" He mumbled, failing to hide the way his voice fell. You whipped your head around to face him, your Y/E/C eyes squinting in confusion. How did he just say that so confidently?
"Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell," You huffed, shocked at his words. "There is no one else on this god-forsaken Earth that I would rather spend my time with," You stared into his reddening baby blue orbs as you felt your heart yearn for him. A small smile picked at his lips as you continued to stare at him, your hands coming up to hold his hot cheeks. "Actually, rather spend my life with." You corrected yourself with a quick chuckle and Maverick's smile widened as he leaned in to kiss you, in which you of course accepted with grace. "And for the record, I don't want a Rooster. I want a Maverick." The pilot laughed at your words, warming your heart. "Don't ever doubt yourself again, Pete. I love you, and I want you forever."
"You know, I think the feeling is mutual, sweetheart." He teased, earning himself a roll of your eyes. You felt warm and at home as you watched him smile at you, feeling an overwhelming amount of love fill your heart. "I love you." Maverick whispered, pressing another kiss against your awaiting lips.
"I know." You giggled, grinning as Maverick pressed a trail of kisses from your lips to your jawline, his arms circling around you in a tight hug. "Please don't scare me like that ever again, though. Promise me." You murmured, glossy eyes peeking up to catch his gaze. Maverick's lips spread into a lop-sided smile as he stared down at you in front of him, his hands releasing you from the hug to cup your cheeks, his thumbs brushing against them lovingly.
"I promise, Y/N." He hummed, pulling you close to plant a kiss that would kick-start a night full of passion and fond memories that you would surely reminisce about in the near future.

the request: 'okay, so I have a another idea think with me… how about a oneshot where is the first time that Maverick is meeting the younger!reader parents 👀'
"Nervous?" You asked, voice slightly shaky as you slowly turned around to glance at Maverick, shooting him a small smile. He let out a breathy laugh as the pair of you climbed the small set of stairs that lead up to your parents' house. Your ears perked up as he inhaled sharply, pausing. Awaiting his answer, your eyes darted to the front door, lingering on the door bell that you would have to press in a couple of moments.
"I prefer to call it excited anticipation," Maverick replied, his hand coming to rest on the small of your back as the two of you reached the porch. "...helps calm my nerves." He added, making you chuckle quietly to yourself.
"I suppose that's one way to put it, honey." You hummed and raised your hand up to the doorbell, your finger reluctantly pushing it inwards. Maverick noticed your hesitation and wondered if he should be the one asking if you're nervous. He let his hand ride up to your waist and gave you a supportive squeeze, making you glance up to him with a thankful blink. "I'm just worried about my dad, that's all." You admitted. Maverick knew there would most likely be a rift between him and your father, considering he was almost the same age as him. Despite that, he still had a small yet fading glint of hope that your father would approve of him. That was just who Maverick was.
The sound of the front door clicking open hauled Maverick from his pestering thoughts and his pale blue eyes flew up to meet a woman with neatly arranged hair and minimal makeup upon her weathered face. A smile slipped onto his lips as he caught sight of you stepping forwards, your arms stretching out to greet who he assumed was your mother. "Hi, mom!" You squeaked as she hugged you back, giving you a big squeeze. Her cheek pushed against the side of your head, her eyes squeezing shut in an emotional show of relief and happiness. A large grin spread across her cheeks as she embraced you.
"Oh, sweetie," She mumbled against your now-ruffled hair. "We've missed you!" Your mom added, pulling away, but leaving her arms around you. She glanced at Maverick, her grin somehow widening. "This must be Pete!" A hoarse squeak left her throat as she palmed her hands together. Maverick's heart warmed at the noise as it made him think of you - you were definitely your mother's daughter.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Ms. L/N." Maverick smiled politely, extending a hand out to formally introduce himself to one half of your parent. Your mother shook her head at him vigorously, a brief gasp escaping her lips.
"Don't be silly, come here! The pleasure is all mine," She sighed, a content smile appearing on her worn features. Your mother stepped forwards and gave Maverick a big hug, her arms sliding around his back. He gladly hugged her back, another smile appearing on his lips as he looked to you. "And please, call me Y/M/N." As she released him, you let out a short laugh. This was only the beginning, you thought. "He seems absolutely lovely, Y/N/N." Your mother said.
You giggled as Maverick snaked a protective arm around your middle, pulling you close against him. "I guess he is," You teased. Maverick jokingly scoffed at your reply, his thumb tenderly caressing where it lay.
"Come on in, I'll go get your father, he's just preparing drinks for us." Your mother stated with another warm smile, shuffling aside to let the pair of you slip inside of your childhood home. Maverick's inquisitive eyes bounced around the place, quickly finding a precious baby photo of you. The pilot quickly wandered over, picking up the photo frame with delicate hands.
"Is this you?" Maverick gasped, unable to hide the excitement that twisted his face into a beaming grin, his eyes glancing between you and the photo he was currently holding. You groaned, cheeks burning red in embarrassment. "You were so cute." He cooed.
"Were?" You repeated and cocked a brow, making him tilt his head at you in a pleading manner. You sauntered over to him as he stared at you, placing your head against his shoulder and wrapping your arm around his closest to you.
"You knew what I meant, sweetheart," Maverick groaned this time. A soft laugh left your lips as you watched him roll his eyes at you, placing the photo back down upon the table he had found it. It was silent again until Maverick spoke. "Your mom is really nice." He said, making you smile against his arm.
"Yeah," You hummed as you thought back to all of the precious memories you held so dearly to you. The ones where your mother was the one who you confided in during dark times, the shoulder you cried on when people didn't treat you with respect, the one who gave you much needed pep talks when you felt low and worthless. The list was endless. You adored your mother, and it showed, evidently. "She's like my best friend." You said softly, looking up to your boyfriend. He smiled down at you, his eyes faltering for a quick moment. You assumed he was thinking back to his mother.
"I wish you could have met mine. She would have loved you." Maverick admitted, pursing his lips in an attempt to bite back the tears that threatened to spill from his eyes as he stared down at you; his heart filling with intense emotion. "My dad would have loved you as well, God rest his soul." He whispered.
"Me too, Mav." You leaned up on your tip-toes to press a sweet kiss to his lips, letting your nose brush against his as you pulled away. A content hum vibrated from his chest as he relished in your tender love, but the moment was cut short as your father cleared his throat, garnering your attention. You turned around to spot a greying man, an excited grin spreading across his cheeks as his arms flew open, inviting you in for a much needed bear hug.
"Dad!" You gasped, running into his arms. Maverick couldn't help the smile that picked at the corners of his lips as he watched you embrace your father, who looked equally - if not more - excited to see you. As he let you go, you stood beside him, his arm resting against your back. Your father eyed Maverick and his smile instantly faded, as if the sweet moment between you two never happened. "This is Pete, Dad." You bit your lip, quickly glancing at your boyfriend, dreading what your dad was going to say - or do. You knew he wasn't too happy that you were dating someone who was more than twenty years your senior. It was just the protective side of him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir," Maverick stepped forwards, offering his hand to shake. Your dad let his eyes fall down to Maverick's hand as he kept his head eye-level, chewing on the inside of his cheek. "Y/N has told me so many wonderful things about you." He added awkwardly, still holding out his hand.
"I bet," Your father said simply, finally accepting Maverick's hand after eyeing him for so long. He gave a firm squeeze, almost too firm, making the pilot clear his throat awkwardly. Your dad quickly ripped away his hand from Maverick's and placed a wary arm around your shoulders, his eyes narrowing as he studied your boyfriend. Maverick stood and pursed his lips, silently praying that you or your mother would direct the uncomfortable attention elsewhere.
"Oh, do stop it, Y/F/N," Your mother scolded your father and rolled her eyes, stepping forwards to dispel the awkward energy that had gathered in the room you all stood in. "Pete is not as bad as you think, honey." She added, sending a friendly smile to the aforementioned pilot, making Maverick relax his stance a little.
"You've just met him!" Your dad scoffed, his fingers tightening on your shoulders.
"Y/N likes him, and that's all that matters." She said, her voice authoritative and stern. Your dad muttered to himself as he let go of you, wandering off back into the kitchen. You sighed heavily and walked back over to Maverick who quickly held up an arm to wrap around your waist. Noticing the tense atmosphere, your mom walked over to the pair of you, placing a reassuring hand upon Maverick's shoulder. "He'll warm up to you, Pete, give him time." She softly smiled, giving your boyfriend a gentle squeeze as she padded off - most likely to find your dad.
"I think that went well." Maverick joked and dropped his shoulders like he was holding the weight of a boulder upon them. You groaned quietly, letting your head fall against his arm. "It'll be alright, baby." He leaned over to press a kiss to your head, and you couldn't help the smile that slipped onto your lips.
"I know, he's just... ugh..." You trailed off, staring down at the ground, unsure of how to explain what you meant.
"He's just being your dad." Maverick finished for you and you laughed at his words, gradually nodding your head in agreement with him.
"Yeah, I guess he is." You murmured, looking back up at Maverick with a bright smile as he leaned down again to press a soft kiss to your lips. You let your fingers fly up to the nape of his neck, tangling themselves within his dark cocoa-coloured hair, a grin replacing the smile on your lips as he deepened the kiss for a quick moment, believing that you were alone. Maverick's hand slowly came to cup your cheek as he pulled away from your desperate kisses, his eyes staring into your own. "I love you." You mumbled against his pink lips, softly pressing more kisses upon them, hands falling to lock around his neck. Maverick smiled, a gentle laugh leaving him.
"I love you too, baby."
However, you weren't actually alone like you had thought. Your parents had crept around the corner upon hearing your chatter, a smile gracing your mother's lips as she watched the pair of you mumble sweet nothings to each other. It reminded her of the days when she first started dating your father, falling head over heels for him soon afterwards. "Oh, look at them, Y/F/N." She cooed.
Your dad, on the other hand, wasn't as 'gullible' in his words. That was until he saw the way Maverick looked at you like you were the only thing in the world, his eyes softening and darting all over your besotted face. At that moment, he started to change his mind about your boyfriend. Maybe he wasn't so bad for you, maybe he was actually good for you. "Hm," He hummed, hating the way a smile was slowly creeping it's way onto his lips as he stood watching you two. "W-what was his name again, sweetie?"
"Pete." She whispered.
"Pete," He repeated quietly, his eyes still trained on the two of you. "Maybe Pete isn't so bad after all." Your dad smiled, glancing to your mom who had a megawatt-like grin upon her cheeks. She stepped forwards and placed her hands around your dad's neck, clutching them together gently.
"Maybe." Your mom whispered again, pressing a kiss to your dad's cheek.

also i know it's take me to bed or lose me forever i just thought take me home sounded cuter for the current moment ;(
Sat down on the side of your dishevelled bed, a fleeting sigh escaped your lips. You had just gotten the call from Admiral Simpson - you were being called in for another mission. It was around a month after you flew that suicide mission with the Dagger squad, mentored and trained by Maverick. The group of you were still so close and you kept in contact. You truly did love them all - although you loved one of them more than the rest, and in an entirely different way.
A disgruntled and frustrated groan rattled your chest as you stood up and ran a hand through your tousled hair. Just as you were about to start packing things for your journey back to Miramar, San Diego, your phone buzzed to life. The theme song to Hawaii Five-O disrupted the peaceful silence that was lingering in your bedroom and you reached down to answer the call. A smile formed on your face as you read the name "Natasha" plastered across the top half of your phone screen. Your thumb tapped on the green answer button, and the silence returned in your bedroom as you put the phone up to your ear. "Hey," You said, sinking back down on your bed.
"Hey, Y/N," Phoenix smiled through the phone. "We're all headed down to The Hard Deck at five, you wanna come?" She asked. You thought about it for a moment. It would be nice to see everyone again and have some fun before you had to be deployed.
"Sure. I'll see you there, Phoenix." You hummed as your eyes wandered around your room, eyes landing on the photo of you all on board the naval ship from a month ago. A smile picked at the corners of your lips as your mind reeled back to that moment. Jake had taken the photo, his arm outstretched and taking up the left hand side of the picture. You stood behind him, grinning as you were sandwiched between Phoenix and Bob. Phoenix had her hand wrapped around your neck and Bob was stood beside Coyote who had a hand on Fanboy's shoulder, crouching in front of the four of you. Payback, Rooster and Maverick were crouched a bit lower, big grins on their sweaty faces. The latter two had just pulled off a miracle stunt, escaping an enemy base in an old F-14.
"Great, see you later, Y/C/S." Phoenix said and you hung up the call. Your home screen popped up and you looked at the time - four in the afternoon. It left you an hour to shower, get ready and head to the bar which was around ten or fifteen minutes away.
****
It was five fifteen when you pulled up to the bar, spotting Penny sweeping the porch. You hopped off your pearlescent purple Ducati Panigale, kicking out the stand. Casting your eyes across the lot, you only spotted a few of your squad's cars - them being Phoenix, Bob, Hangman and Coyote. He wasn't here yet, thank god. As you swung your leg over the motorbike's middle, Penny caught eye of you.
"Well look what the tide brought in," She laughed, placing a hand on her hip as she stopped sweeping for a moment. "Y/N, it's been a while!" Penny said, starting to walk down the steps and toward you. You walked forwards.
"It has," You laughed back, looking a little sheepish. "I've, um, been busy." You shrugged, hoping she didn't ask anymore questions about it. It was both a lie and not a lie, you had been busy. Busy trying to forget about a certain person who had completely taken over your mind and heart.
"I get that," She smiled. "The others are inside. Coyote's gettin' mad at Hangman 'cos he keeps beating him at pool." An amused laugh escaped her lips as she glanced back at the open door. "I'm out here sweeping since it's pretty dead in there. For now.."
"The evening rush is always a wild card," You said, wrinkling your nose in displeasure at the thought of weaving in between drunk, sweaty bodies. "You either get awful people, or you get easy-going people. Let's hope it's the latter!" You chuckled lightly. Penny nodded her head in agreement, grinning at you.
"Come on in and I'll getcha a drink. I need to check the bar anyway." As you walked up to her, she placed a hand on your shoulder and walked with you into the bar. "I love your outfit by the way, it's stunning." She said, glancing down at your choice of clothing. You sported a soft beige string bikini top and slapped a baggy, thin shirt over the top, rolling the sleeves up to your forearms and tying it up in the middle of your stomach. On your bottom, you wore a pair of fraying, white linen shorts that reached your upper thigh.
A smile appeared on your face as the two of you reached the empty bar. "Thank you, Penny." You smiled. Penny slipped behind the bar and leant against it with one hand, the other sitting on her hip. She gestured to the drinks, silently asking what you wanted. "Can I get a vodka and lemonade, please?" You asked and nibbled on your bottom lip. A loud array of laughter suddenly erupted in the quiet room, garnering your attention. You quickly looked over to the source of the sound, spotting your squad, looking smart in their beige naval uniforms. A smile instantly reached your face as you watched Hangman high-five Phoenix. Looking back to Penny, she was finishing off your drink and placing a straw in the glass.
"Didn't think you'd want to mess up your lipstick." She grinned with a wink. You laughed and reached out your hand to grab the cold glass.
"Thanks, Pen," A soft giggle escaped your lips as you turned to walk towards the squad.
A low whistle penetrated your ears. "Well, if it ain't Y/C/S." Hangman grinned from behind the pool table, his eyes sliding up and down your body, checking you out. As the cocky pilot announced your name, the rest of the squad turned around excitedly, grins immediately breaking out on their faces as they saw you.
"Y/C/S!" Fanboy, Payback and Coyote cheered from the left, sat on some barstools. They stood up to greet you with open arms. You hugged them back happily, closing your eyes momentarily as you inhaled.
"Hey guys!" You giggled at them, looking to Phoenix next. She smirked and walked over to you, engulfing you in a tight hug.
"Good to see you." She said, pulling away from you, but leaving a comforting hand on your shoulder. "How's it going?" Phoenix asked quietly. You wrinkled your nose at the question, glancing between her eyes and the floor. She smiled, standing aside so you could say hello to the rest of the squad. "I get it." She mumbled.
Your eyes met Bob's as he stood up from his chair opposite the pool table, once again brushing himself down from peanut shells. "Hey, Bob," You grinned, holding your arms out for a hug. He bashfully moved forwards to accept it, his arms wrapping around you. "It's good to see you're still in one piece. I know how Phoenix can fly sometimes." Bob chuckled at your words, and a sudden slap at the back of your head made you laugh.
"Hey! Watch yourself, Y/C/S." She warned you with a smirk, pointing a threatening finger at your amused face. You held up your hands in defence, trying to suppress another laugh. As you turned back around, Bob had suddenly grown a couple inches and put on some muscle, and turned into a cocky blonde.
"Y/C/S." Hangman smirked down at you, staring into your eyes. "Still kickin' I see." He joked, earning a gasp from you.
"Hangman, we all know that you'd be the one to stop 'kickin', if it were to happen." You smirked back at him, folding your arms against your chest. He broke into a laugh and pulled you into a warm hug, and you graciously hugged him back, his cologne overwhelming your nose.
"No Maverick or Rooster then?" You frowned, noticing their absence. A little pang of pain and a ball of warmth shot through your chest as you mentioned his name.
"Rooster's coming a little later I think. Mav should be here soon though." Coyote said, glancing between you and Phoenix. You hummed as your heart started to batter against your ribcage in anticipation, and you sipped your drink, trying to calm your nerves.
Around fifteen minutes passed as the group of you surrounded the pool table, cheering at Hangman and Coyote. Fanboy's eyes suddenly left the pool table. "Have no fear, the Captain is here," Fanboy snickered. A grin formed on his face as he backed away from the table and made his way towards the aforementioned pilot. "How you doin', old man?" He asked. You looked up to watch him, finally catching sight of the man who had been causing you heartache. Swallowing thickly, you tried to rip your eyes away from Maverick but they refused. He looked amazing.
Maverick sported his usual white tee with his infamous patched bomber jacket, with a pair of jeans to match. His famous black and gold aviators sat on his nose as a handsome grin slipped onto his lips as he grabbed Fanboy's hand, pulling him in for a bro-hug, and then moved onto Coyote. "Hey man," Mav chuckled. You looked away for a moment, waiting for everyone to say hello. Hangman, Phoenix, Bob and Payback gave the captain a welcoming hug, exchanging warm greetings. As you looked back at him, his blue eyes met yours and your heart rate increased; a bashful smile picking at the corners of your lips.
Maverick grinned, walking over to you and engulfing you in a big hug. "Y/C/S," He hummed as his arms wrapped around your middle. Your arms snaked themselves around his neck and you pressed your head against his shoulder, his familiar and comforting cologne filling your nostrils. A soft giggle escaped your lips and your eyes never left his. "It's been a while." He chuckled and pulled away, although his hands lingered on your waist a little longer than usual. Out of the corner of your eye you could see Hangman and Phoenix watching you like a pair of curious cats.
"Yeah," You breathed out, a little breathless from the encounter. You hadn't prepared yourself to see him, you didn't think you needed to. You thought this would be a walk in the park. You were wrong. "Who would've thought we'd be back here so soon?" A bashful giggle escaped your lips and it made Maverick grin.
"Well, I'm not complaining about the company," He said quietly, eyes still glued to yours. "You got a drink?" Maverick asked, eyeing your empty hand. You quickly glanced down at it and gasped softly.
"Oh, yes, it's on the table over there." You said, almost too quickly. His eyebrows raised at your sudden reply, and you immediately regretted how fast you had replied. It wasn't personal, it was just you being you... a nervous wreck around him.
"I'm gonna go get a beer." He smiled, before walking off in the direction of the bar. Your smile slowly dissipated as you turned back towards the group, Hangman and Phoenix's eyes still fixated on you. With a heavy sigh, you walked over to the duo, and Hangman held up his arm for a hug. You gratefully accepted it, groaning.
"Ugh," You grumbled. "I forgot how hard it was." Your eyes slowly searched for the captain, who was currently stood next to a blonde woman, and clearly having a good time with her. Their loud laughter could be heard from over here. Hangman rubbed your shoulder in an attempt to comfort you.
"I think you should go and talk to him, Y/N/N." Phoenix said, taking a swig of her beer. As she swallowed, she shrugged. "What's the harm in it?" She added, looking at Hangman who didn't seem too convinced. He let his arm fall off of your shoulder as he leant back against the barstool behind him, his eyes finding yours.
"Well, if he doesn't wantcha, I know someone who does." Jake wiggled his eyebrows, a grin breaking out onto his face. Looking away, your cheeks flushed pink at his words and Phoenix noticed, starting to laugh.
You tried to hide the smirk that threatened to slip onto your face at any moment. Well, if Maverick isn't interested, then what's the harm? Jake is undeniably hot, and it wouldn't hurt to flirt for fun. "Really now?" You looked back at the pilot, who was visibly surprised at your answer. As was Phoenix. "C'mon, Bagman.. let's play some pool." You said, walking back to the pool table.
"You're on." He quickly said, relishing in the different attention you were giving him. Phoenix was in shock at your attitude. "You sure you wanna do this, sweetheart?" Hangman asked, throwing you a teasing look. The nickname twisted your stomach into a knot, and you weren't particularly fond of how it made you feel.
"Oh, I'm sure," You said, grabbing the plastic triangle atop of the green-carpeted table. "I'm very sure." You mocked Hangman, remembering what he had said to Rooster all that time ago. His eyes narrowed at you, and a sly smile reached his lips. You quickly grabbed the pool balls and slotted them into the triangle, some of them clacking together.
"Seem like you're experienced with balls, honey," Hangman said, and you glanced up at him, eyes falling to the way he was gripping the pool cue. "I like an experienced woman." He finished off flirtatiously, glancing between yourself and the balls.
"You're out of luck then," You said, leaning up from the table and grabbing a hold of the other pool cue. Looking into Jake's eyes, you smirked. "Because I'm a virgin." Hangman's brows furrowed momentarily, his eyes sliding down your body again. He swallowed thickly, obviously speechless. You moved to the bottom of the pool table, where Jake was stood, and placed the white cue ball in the lower half of the table. "Ladies first." You mumbled to him with a cheeky smile. Leaning over, you made sure to poke your rear out towards Hangman, your fingers feeling the coarse carpet on top of the table as you lined yourself up for the shot.
"You got this, Y/C/S." Bob said from the side with a smile on his face. Phoenix stood next to him, throwing you a quizzical look, gesturing between you and Jake with her eyes. You shook your head at her and smiled, before looking back at the table.
"Wait, whaddya get if you win?" Fanboy called from behind you. You thought for a moment.
"If I win, Hangman owes me one hundred bucks. If he wins.. he can do or have whatever he wants I guess. But we don't need to discuss that, because it's not gonna happen." You said nonchalantly, looking back at Fanboy. A chorus of 'oohs' erupted, making you smirk. Looking up, you saw Hangman rolling his eyes at your dig.
Pulling back your arm, you swung it forwards, the cue ball smashing into the other balls with a loud clack. A striped ball sinks down into a hole and you smirk to yourself. You moved to the right side of the table, staring up at Hangman as he watched you. You never took your eyes off of him as you hit another shot, sinking another ball. You could see him tense his jaw as he shuffled in his spot, biceps flexing in frustration. The amount of self-restraint this man had to not just fuck you right here on this table right now is ground-breaking.
"Lucky shot." He said with a shit-eating grin. You leaned up from the side of the table and cocked a brow.
"Is it now?" You said, narrowing your eyes at him, smiling. You leaned back down to set yourself up for another shot, but you caught sight of Maverick heading back over to the group of you. You felt your breath hitch. Despite the warm and comforting feeling in your chest, you ignored it, and hit your shot, merely missing another sunk ball. A frustrated groan left your lips and Jake didn't miss it. He smirked at you, pouting sarcastically. You turned away from the pool table as he walked towards you, his eyes never leaving yours. You refused to back down.
"Like I said, sweetheart, lucky shot." He chuckled and moved in between your legs, placing his arms either side of you, forcing you to lean back as he leaned forwards, his eyes glancing between you and the cue ball. Your breath hitched in your throat from the closeness between you two, making your heart race. A few wolf whistles from Coyote and Fanboy made you blush. The pair of you were chest to chest, and you could feel his body heat radiating off of him. Deep down, you weren't complaining. But deep deep down, you were wishing Hangman was Maverick.
"Let the pool champ show you how it's done." He mumbled in your ear as he pulled back his muscular arm, your gaze slowly moving to his flexed bicep. As you looked back at your arrogant opponent, he smirked. "Like what you see?" Hangman swung his arm forwards, the sound of balls clacking together rang through your ears. His eyes never left yours as he leaned back from the table, walking to the left side of the table.
As you turned around, your gaze immediately fell on Maverick, who's eyes were as hard as steel. Your eyes trickled down his hands, which were gripping his bottle of beer so hard that it could most likely shatter at any second. Confused, you couldn't help your brows furrowing together as you watched him stare daggers into the back of Hangman's head. Soon enough Maverick looked away from your blonde opponent and glanced at you, softening his eyes. You quickly ditched the confused look upon your face, relaxing your brows. Averting his gaze from you momentarily, a small smile slipped onto his pink lips. You noticed his fist relaxed as the pair of you shared a warm look. Not wanting to make anything awkward you smiled back at him, and returned your attention back to Jake. Shaking off the perplexing encounter, you furrowed your brows again so that Maverick wouldn't be able to see them. "Lucky shot," You scoffed mimicking Jake. Reaching for your almost empty drink, you swung the remnants of the liquid back. You tried ignoring the vivid image of Maverick's angry face in your mind.
"Aw," Hangman pouted mockingly, pushing his lips out. "Is someone a little upset?" He said, breaking out into a mischievous grin. You cocked a brow, sauntering over to him, slowly, holding his amused gaze. Hangman's eyes narrowed in curiosity as you neared him, entering his personal space.
"Honey," You sighed quietly and flicked your eyes between Jake's eyes and lips, watching his Adam's apple slide up and down his throat as he swallowed. "If I was upset, you wouldn't even need to ask." With a roll of your eyes, you slipped on a confident façade and threw a simpering smile his way.
Around fifteen minutes passed and you and Hangman had sunk most of the balls with a bit of flirting here and there. It was now down to him to sink the black eight ball, in which you were watching wistfully, preparing to accept a loss. "You've got him, he's easy, Y/N/N," Maverick suddenly appeared next to you, his shoulder at least two inches above yours. "He's yours." He said, glancing down at you. The butterflies and feelings returned within you as fast as they left - which was never. You felt your knees weaken as he smiled down at you, watching his gorgeous pale blue eyes crease at the sides.
"You think?" You choked out, swallowing back a nervous laugh. Glancing at Hangman, you saw he was watching you and Maverick closely, his eyes narrowing with what seemed like jealousy. You looked back to the captain who still had his eyes on you. A faint blush creeped up your cheeks. You let your eyes falter for a moment, glancing at his lips.
"He's easy, sweetheart. You got this." Maverick smirked and took a sip of his beer. He leaned down and placed his lips near your awaiting ear. "Show me what you got." Your eyes fluttered as his hot breath caressed the side of your bare neck, a warm wave of pleasure washing over your body. Your mind began to race with unspeakable images of the captain and you, his lips attacking your neck with warm kisses, a breathless moan escaping your lips, making Maverick smirk. A sudden and loud clack pulled you back to reality.
"Shit!" Hangman grunted as he watched the black eight ball merely miss the hole he was aiming for. A soft pair of "ooh"s slipped from Coyote and Payback. His hardened gaze met yours, and you smirked at him, cocking a brow.
"Let the pool champ show you how it's done." You said cockily as you mocked Hangman's previous words. In all seriousness, after that, you were silently praying that you wouldn't miss. Leaning down, you set up your shot, silently calculating the angle you'd need to pull this shit off. As you swung the pool cue forwards, the whole squad watched with anticipation. The loud clack of the cue ball smacking against the black eight ball made you blink quickly, your eyes never leaving the final ball. A thud sounded as the black eight ball fell down the corner hole, securing your victory. The squad jumped up and cheered for you, mostly happy that you had beaten Hangman.
"Yes!" Bob cheered and fisted the air in celebration. You were absolutely flabbergasted as you stared in disbelief, glancing between the pool table and an unhappy looking Hangman. You instantly turned to Maverick who's face was in complete awe.
"Hell yeah!" Mav chuckled. A loud giggle escaped your lips as you stared at his beaming face. It took everything within you to hold you back from running up and kissing him. A grin spread from ear to ear on his face as he watched you. Maverick walked towards you, his gaze never faltering from yours.
You blushed as he neared you, your heart going ballistic inside your chest. A sudden shiver travelled down your spine as Maverick's eyes fell to your lips for a split second. "Want a celebratory drink?" He asked quietly and raised his brows, nodding towards your empty glass.
"Who am I to disobey my captain?" You giggled again as he held out his arm jokily, and you grinned, graciously accepting his offer. "Oh, and Hangman," You turned to the sulking pilot, his eyes glancing between yours and Maverick's arms and your eyes. "GGs, thanks for buying the next few rounds." You winked at him, in which he smirked back at you, running his tongue across his teeth.
"Beginner's luck." He winked and set the pool cue down as he picked up his bottle of beer. You rolled your eyes at him, turning back to face Maverick. "Shall we?" You smiled, nodding towards the bar.
"Let's." He chuckled as the pair of you wandered towards the dark wooden bar, weaving in between the busy crowd. Maverick made sure you reached the bar before he had to quickly dip for the toilet. "I'll be back in a moment." He said, sending a reassuring smile your way. You smiled back, relishing in the warm feeling that he had unknowingly been giving you since he first walked in.
"Hey, gorgeous." An unfamiliar voice tickled your ears, and you whipped your head around to find an average height young man leaning against the bar, with his body facing towards you. Internally you groaned. "All alone?" He asked, eyeing your body. Instinctively you folded your arms to cover yourself, feeling uncomfortable.
The man sipped his beer, still staring intensely at you. "No, I'm waiting for a.. uh.. friend." You mentally slapped yourself to hesitating on what to describe Maverick as, knowing you had just outed yourself as being single.
"So you're single?" His eyes lit up at the sudden discovery, his tongue slipping out to wet his lips. "You can't be," He stuttered, his eyes falling all over your body again. "Not with a smoking hot body and a gorgeous face like yours, sugar." The man moved closer this time, reaching out a hand to touch your arm.
"Hey, take a step back, son." Maverick suddenly appeared beside you and you instantly relaxed, swiftly looking up at him. He easily towered over the man; his eyes hard and unforgiving. Mav's voice was deep and almost dark as he slipped a protective hand around your waist, pulling you so close to him that you could almost hear his perfect heart beat. "Get outta here." He said, placing himself between yourself and the man.
"Hey, hey, I was just joking around," The man said quickly, looking sheepish. Maverick was much more built than the skinny lad who had taken an interest in you. "I'll go." He said, muttering what sounded like a string of profanities aimed at your saviour as he wandered off.
Even as the man left, Mav's grip on your waist didn't falter, and he still stayed close to you. You could hear his heart racing from the adrenaline rush. "Hey," You softly said, making him look down at you. "Thank you." A smile formed on your lips as you watched him, his lips spreading into a smile too.
"It's not a problem," He mumbled, looking down at you with soft eyes. Your heart melted at the sight, and you almost fell in Maverick's arms. "You alright?" He asked, brushing a stray strand of hair behind your ears. You nodded, rendered speechless at his touch. "Vodka and lemonade?" He asked again. You nodded. Again. "Alright." He beamed, reluctantly glancing away to Penny. Her eyes found yours as Maverick ordered your drink, a bright and big grin breaking out on her face. You blushed and looked away with a bashful smile.
"Thanks, Pete." You giggled, feeling brave enough to use your captain's first name. You could swear you saw Maverick's cheeks flush at the use of his real name.
"Don't mention it, Y/N," He said with a bashful smile, looking away from you. The sound of your name rolled off of his tongue so smoothly making your stomach do flips. "Bradley's here." His hand quickly fell from your waist and you immediately felt your heart fall. Pushing your feelings aside, you glanced to where Rooster was walking and grinned, lifting an arm to wave at the aforementioned man.
"Hey Mav," Rooster's smooth voice travelled to your ears. "Y/N?" He asked, instantly smiling at your presence. His fingers came up to pluck his aviators off of the bridge of his nose and folding them onto his white tee beneath his signature Hawaiian shirt, revealing his pair of warm, brown eyes.
"The one and only." You laughed. A smile picked at Maverick's lips as the sound of your laugh rang through his ears, a soft, happy hum emitting from his chest. "How's it going Rooster?" You asked the newly graduated pilot who was currently smiling back at the two of you.
"Not bad." He replied, catching sight of Phoenix. You glanced at her as she waved Rooster over. "There's Phoenix, catch you later." Rooster quickly departed with a genial nod, and you turned your attention back to Maverick.
"How's it going with Rooster, by the way?" You asked and Maverick turned towards the bar, with you following his action. "He seems to have changed how he feels about you." You added, resting you forearms against the bartop.
"It's gonna take some time," He said. "It's not gonna be easy for him to forgive me." He finished, glancing at the ground - obviously thinking back to the tragic accident that killed his RIO and his best friend, Goose. Your heart ached for him. You just wanted to hold him in your arms. "My father went missing when he was a pilot in the Navy. I never found out what happened - it's all classified information." Maverick finished, taking a slow swig of his beer.
"I'm sorry, Mav." He only shook his head and smiled, looking at you with soft eyes.
There was a moment of brief silence as Penny served your drinks with a kind smile. You both thanked her before moving away from the bustling bar. The pair of you set your drinks down on a table within your group. Taking a sip, you pondered for a moment as your gaze found the ocean. "Wanna swim?" You nodded towards the white doors, a cheeky look breaking out onto your cheeks.
"I don't like that look, Y/C/S." Maverick gave you a lopsided smile, glancing between the ocean and yourself.
"It's the only one I got." You replied, trying to hold back a giggle as you quoted Hondo and Maverick. He rolled his eyes, setting his beer down and you swiftly grabbed his larger hand with your smaller one, silently enjoying the way his rough hand felt against yours. Pulling him out the doors and past a confused Dagger squad, the pair of you laughing together like maniacs.
"Hey!" You squeaked as Maverick slipped his hands underneath your waist and knees, picking you up. Instinctively, your hands snaked around his neck as he ran towards the sea, you screaming at the top of your lungs at him. "Mav!" You screamed once more before he jumped in with you. Seawater enveloped your body and you scrambled to the surface, gasping for air. "You son of a bitch!" A loud roar of laughter erupted from the captain as you swam towards him and jumped on him, wrapping your legs around his middle.
"You looked a little hot, I thought you needed a swim to cool down." He smirked, staring up at you as he snaked his arms around your waist, watching droplets of water slip down your amused face. You felt the pads of his fingertips caress your bare skin and you couldn't hide the bright blush that flowered across your cheeks.
"You could've asked first." You mumbled, staring at Maverick as the gentle waves lapped against the two of you. "This was an expensive shirt." You added, breaking out into a giggle as the captain rolled his eyes at your comment.
"I'll replace it." He said quietly. You moved closer to him, squeezing your legs around his waist as his arms pulled you in, your noses almost touching. The mere closeness of you two was enough to set your heart on fire.
"With what? It's sold out now." You wrinkled your nose at him.
"One of mine." He replied, glancing at your eyes. You swallowed in shock at his comment, feeling almost breathless. There's no way he just said that.
"I'd like that." You muttered back and bit down on your bottom lip for a moment. Maverick leaned in towards you, his lips grazing against yours, teasing you. "Mav," You whined breathlessly, making the captain smirk. "Kiss me." You added. Maverick's eyes lit up as they met yours. He didn't waste anymore time in waiting to kiss you.
Maverick planted a soft kiss on your lips and slowly pulled away, waiting for your reaction. You smiled and leaned forwards to capture another. An even bigger smile formed on his face as he leaned in towards you too, his lips connecting with yours. His nose brushed against your cheek as the two of you kissed in the sea. You couldn't believe what was happening.
"I think," You mumbled in between kisses. "I love you." You mumbled again, making Maverick pull away. Your eyes widened in fright, but he only smiled at you, brushing a hand over your cheek. Your anxiety-ridden, churning stomach suddenly settled and you felt at ease, a warm shiver washing over your body.
"You think?" He asked, pressing soft kisses to the side of your lips and upon your jaw. His jokey question made you laugh and his smile only grew as he watched you, the crinkles beside his eyes growing.
"I know I do." A soft, hushed sigh slipped from you, and you couldn't hide the smile that broke out on your face. "Take me home or lose me forever, Captain Mitchell." You murmured against his lips, pressing a gentle kiss upon them.
Maverick dropped his head for a moment, his eyes looking up at you through his wet lashes. "Show me the way home, honey." He grinned, melting into your kisses as the two of you floated together in the ocean. "I love you too, Y/N."

You were stood in a white room with a worn, pink carpet spreading across the floor. A large vertical mirror was propped up against the wall in front of you, reflecting the image of you in white. Sweat began to dot your palms as you stared at yourself, glancing down at the long, white dress you currently wore. A gentle hand landed on your shoulder and you flinched, your head whipping around to find Phoenix. Rooster sat behind her, perched on a chair with his legs crossed as he read a magazine. The sudden rustle of your veil made him perk up to find the source of commotion.
"Hey, you alright?" She grinned. You glanced between Phoenix and Rooster, your heart beginning to race. She was your maid of honour, and Rooster was going to walk you down the aisle as your father and mother had sadly passed away when you were younger. It only made sense considering he was like an older brother to you.
"Oh god," You sighed softly, looking down to the ground, your fingers fidgeting with the engagement ring that sat happily upon your finger. "Am I doing the right thing?" Your eyebrows slid together to form a worried frown. Unfortunately, you had a case of 'cold feet'. Today, you were finally getting married to your fiancé, Pete Mitchell, also commonly known as Maverick. The two of you met through Rooster when he introduced you to the squad, and you instantly fell for Pete. The connection you shared was unbreakable.
"Y/N/N, don't be silly, you and Pete were literally made for each other," Phoenix shook her head, a sympathetic smile replacing the happy grin that once sat on her face. She looked at you with kind eyes and it seemed to settle your nerves slightly, your racing heart slowing ever so slightly. "You've been inseparable ever since you met." She added, her hand sliding down from your shoulder to your arm to give it a reassuring rub. Rooster stood from his seat, unfolding his legs as he placed the magazine down on the table beside him with a soft slap. He slowly walked over to you and Phoenix, unsure of how to navigate such a tense and delicate situation.
"Phoenix is right," Rooster nodded, a lop-sided smile coming to rest on his lips. You let out a shaky breath as Phoenix took your hands in hers. "You and Mav fit together like two pieces of a puzzle." He chuckled softly, moustache twitching above his lip.
"I know, I just... I'm excited to finally marry Pete, believe me, but I'm nervous, you know?" You hurriedly said, squeezing Phoenix's hands slightly too hard. She winced at you and you grimaced, offering her an apologetic look. "Sorry, Phoenix." You whispered, letting go of her hands. She offered you a forgiving smile.
"Y/N, it's totally normal to feel nervous before you get married, it's bound to happen, it's a lifechanging thing." Phoenix let a grin slip onto her lips as she brushed a stray strand of your Y/H/C hair behind your ear, her cocoa-coloured eyes welling up with proud tears. Rooster glanced at Phoenix and he felt his eyes begin to gloss over too, so he cleared his throat in an attempt to swallow the tears that threatened to pour down his cheeks.
"You're meant to be here, Y/N," Rooster nodded, pursing his lips as he fought back forthcoming sobs. You couldn't hold back the amused giggle as you stared up at him. He narrowed his eyes at you and rolled them, unable to hide the grin that fell onto his lips. "You're lucky I love you, otherwise I would have left you long ago, Y/N/N." He warned you with a chuckle. "You look absolutely beautiful, Mav is going to be stunned." Rooster beamed, his signature room-warming smile was spread across his lips.
"Thanks, guys. I don't know what I was thinking." You laughed incredulously, your head shaking in instinct at your silly doubts. Your eyes glossed around the room nervously, intentionally avoiding Rooster and Phoenix's prying eyes. It was a little nerve-wracking to look them dead in the eye, despite how long you've been friends. What if they saw something you didn't? Before you had an answer to that rhetorical question, a case of the nervous waffling took hold of you.
"I know I want to be with Pete, I think it's just a huge change, and I'm not great with change, so I guess I just-" Phoenix interrupted your rambling mouth with a firm squeeze of your shoulder, making you look up at the pilot. She gave you a reassuring smile, and somehow it instantly melted the edgy tension that had stiffened your body.
An amused, hushed giggle left her lips and you nibbled on your lower one, averting your eyes to the ground for a split second. "You're fine, Y/N/N. Everything is fine. Relax. This is the happiest day of your life." Phoenix said, her fingers gently massaging your stiff shoulders in an attempt to calm you down.
"I mean, it's Mav, so I don't know if it's the happiest-" Rooster let out a yelp as Phoenix landed a firm punch on his bicep to hush him, her eyes still trained on yours. You couldn't help but laugh at the wimpy noise that left Rooster's lips, and he was sure to send you a well-deserved glare. "Alright, alright, I'm joking!" He groaned and stepped back slightly, his hand rubbing where Phoenix had punched him.
"Are we ready yet in here?!" Penny's light voice echoed in the room as she pushed open the white door, a loud gasp escaping her as she stared at you in awe. "Oh my gosh, Y/N!" She gushed, quickly rushing forwards as she grasped at the hem of her dress so she didn't trip up. As she reached you, Phoenix and Rooster, her hands flew to her chest and clasped together. "You look beautiful, in fact I think you might give Mav a heart attack when you walk down that aisle!" A hearty laugh left Penny's lips as she glanced between the three of you, her gentle hand coming to brush your veil softly. You couldn't hide the giant grin that was currently forming on your face and her elation only made you more excited to marry Pete.
"Is everyone waiting?" You quietly asked, glancing at your reflection in the mirror in front of you. Penny gave you a gentle nod and you swallowed thickly, feeling the nervousness return to your body. The bar-lady noticed the change in your demeanour and quickly reeled you in for a warm hug, whispering in your ear.
"Don't be nervous sweetie, everything will be fine, believe me." She whispered with a smile, her hands lingering on your arms as she pulled away; thumbs soothingly stroking them. "I was just the same when I got married all those years ago. The second you're next to Pete, you'll wonder why you even felt that way!" Penny reassured you, and you glanced at Phoenix and Rooster who nodded in agreement, smiling. "Alright, sweetie, are you ready to walk?"
Reluctantly, you nodded, and Penny squealed in delight. You giggled at her reaction, as did Phoenix who had quite a large grin on her face as Rooster moved beside you, holding out an arm for you to hold. Graciously, you took it and squeezed tightly, a little scared that you'd trip and fall and make a fool of yourself in front of all your friends and family.
"Just breathe, you'll be fine." Rooster whispered in your ear as Penny and Phoenix made their way out of the room and to the start of the aisle, ready to walk down.
"Easy for you to say, Bradshaw." You whispered back with a hint of amusement in your voice. Rooster couldn't help but snicker at your reply as the band began to play, and Penny and Phoenix made their way down the aisle. "Oh shit, here we go."
"I'm here, don't worry." Rooster reassured you, placing his other hand atop of your one that was currently 'choking out' his arm. You nodded vigorously and made an 'o' shape with your lips to take a deep breath. "Here we go." Rooster said as the two of you took a step forward, your eyes desperately darting around the church to spot your soon-to-be husband. Once you found Pete's gaze, he took a deep breath as he stared at you, an undeniably ecstatic grin taking a hold of his face. You felt every anxious thought within you dissipate, and you immediately questioned yourself as to why you even thought those things in the first place. How could you doubt yourself marrying Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell?

Maverick's lips were pressed against your hot, sweaty neck as the two of you writhed beneath the crinkled, white covers of his bed; the frame creaking gently as he shuffled closer to you. His elbow came to land just beside your shoulder, his forearm landing to the side of your head. Maverick palmed the bedsheet as you let your nails softly rake down his back, the wave of pleasure that was shivering over your body from his deft lips upon your neck was so intense. You gazed up at him with wide, doe-like eyes and swollen, pink lips parted; the pilot felt like his chest was going to collapse in on itself. Your hair was splayed out messily behind you upon his fluffed-up pillow, framing your head perfectly. Maverick wished he could take a mental image of you and have it with him forever, you looked so beautiful and pure in this current moment.
You reached up to his clothed torso, fisting at the thin fabric to pull him downwards in a successful attempt to connect each other's lusting lips once more. A throaty moan was strangled in your throat and the perfect corners of Maverick's wet lips curled into a smirk as he let his fingers slip underneath the straps of your panties, the coldness of them making you erupt in goose bumps. "Oh, Mav," You breathed out, the sudden touch rendering you speechless.
"I love how you sound for me, sweetheart," Maverick whispered, a guttural growl leaving his chest as he let his large and roughened hand grasp your hip and squeeze the soft, tender flesh between his fingers. Another moan left you and he couldn't help but press his desperate mouth against yours to swallow your sweet noises. With his hand firmly set on your hip, you pushed them up slightly, wrapping your soft thighs around his waist, squeezing gently. A groan escaped his lips into yours and you caught his bottom lip between your teeth, peering up into his baby blue eyes, now blackened with lust.
"Pete," You whined weakly and stared into his stormy eyes, silently begging for him to return his lips to yours. The corner of his lip twitched into a lop-sided smile as he looked down at you, his intense yet amorous gaze softening into a look of complete adoration. The man was utterly infatuated with you, and no one else could tell him any different.
"What, baby?" He whispered to you, lowering his head so his mouth was pressed against your ear. He let his tongue poke out to tickle your ear lobe, earning a soft whimper from you. God, he loved how he made you feel. It was incredible.
"Kiss me, please." You begged, letting your hands slither up to his neck and resting there, but not forgetting to caress the nape of it with the soft pads of your thumbs. A satisfied hum came from the captain beside you and he let his eyes close for a quick moment, silently relishing in the affectionate act you were currently showering him in. As he slowly raised his head again to look at you, he moved toward you, pressing kisses against your jawline. You let your head loll back as you savoured his kisses, your fingers riding up into his short hair and knotting themselves within the dark strands.
Maverick couldn't help but grind his hips against yours, his spare hand reaching underneath to grab at your ass. A curt gasp left your lips as you briefly opened your eyes in surprise at his lustful act, finding a very smug smirk on his worn features. You couldn't help but giggle at him, using your locked hands to pull him closer to you, pushing your chest against his as you kissed him again, feeling your body set alight.

"Talk to me, Bob." Phoenix said through the comms. You were flying in front of Bob and Phoenix, keeping your hard gaze set on the barren, golden environment in front of you. Sand surrounded you all, with no sign of a soft landing if things went wrong. You swallowed thickly, feeling the beads of sweat drip down your temples.
"We are twelve seconds behind target, we gotta move! We gotta move!" Bob replied swiftly with worry evident in his hoarse voice. Phoenix muttered under her breath as the three of you continued on flying forwards.
"Copy, try to stay with me." You said, trying to feign a hint of confidence to keep morale up. You couldn't let Bob and Phoenix down this time, and you had to prove to Maverick that you had the balls to do this mission. You had to.
"Huh?" Bob suddenly said, catching your attention. You looked to your mirror to glance at Phoenix's plane and furrowed your brows in confusion. "Who's that?" He continued. At the sound of his question, you instantly froze, throwing glances over your shoulders to see if you could catch a glimpse of the bogey in question.
"Where are they, Bob?" You asked.
"Blue team, you've been spotted." Maverick suddenly said through the radio. The sound and familiarity of his voice calmed me a little and you felt your body relax slightly, but not as much as you wanted to, knowing how volatile the older pilot can be.
"Well, hello, Maverick." You sighed through the radio, a slight smirk slipping onto your masked lips.
"You don't sound very happy to hear me, Y/C/S." He said back, hiding a smirk. It was always obvious when Mav was smirking, there was a certain twang of cockiness in his voice that stood out like a sore thumb. You scoffed at his reply.
"What the hell is he doing here?" Phoenix asked with a hint of venom in her voice. You inhaled slowly, sensing the situation becoming tense. This should be interesting.
"I'm a bandit on course to intercept." Maverick replied simply. "Blue team what're you gonna do?" He asked quickly. Your mind began to race with solutions, but none of them seemed to fit the current perspective.
"He's twenty miles left, ten o'clock, seven hundred knots closure." Bob announced from the back seat of Phoenix's jet. You narrowed your Y/E/C eyes, keeping them trained on the course ahead.
With a brief cough you cleared your throat. "Your call, Phoenix, what do you want to do?" You asked, glancing to the right. You hoped she would say continue. It seemed like the logical thing to do right now.
Like the female pilot read your mind, she said, "Continue. We're close." With a quick nod, you averted your gaze back to the dusty path in front of you. "Stay on target."
"He's way around to the north." Bob said, his hands scraping against the cockpit window in a feeble attempt to try to get a better view of your instructor. Maverick was gaining on you both, and fast. In your mind you were thankful that he was on your side, and not the enemies. None of you would stand a chance against him.
You exhaled curtly, feeling your heart begin to race as you all neared the intense climb. The amount dread that was currently filling your body couldn't have been healthy. You feared this part the most. "Roger. Ready for pop-up." You said to Phoenix.
"Be ready on that laser, Bob." Phoenix warned her RIO. The sound of the wind being sliced by your jet's wings began to rattle in your ears.
"Copy, I'm on it." Bob replied, shuffling in his seat, his fingers swiftly finding the knob to adjust the laser.
"Blue team, bandit is still closing." Maverick warned you with a sharp inhale.
"Popping now!" You proclaimed, shaky hands gripping the centre stick and pulling back with all of the strength in your body. Your chest set on fire as the weight of gravity began to sink down onto your trembling body, feeling like your head was about to snap off. As the three of you reached the target height, you inverted the jet with a twist of the stick and pulled back again, diving fast to replicate the steep decline down the mountain side, toward the practice target.
Phoenix let out a quick breath of air and grunted, regaining control of her lungs. "Talk to me Bob, where's Maverick?" You asked hurriedly, throwing your head around and directing your eyes around the surrounding area, trying to pinpoint exactly where Maverick was.
"He's five miles out, he's coming fast!" Bob responded as he desperately tried to breathe. The pair of your planes evened out and you headed towards the dummy target - an old container with perfect circles carved out around it, reminding you of the world famous crop circles.
"Target's in sight!" Phoenix stated.
"Where's my laser Bob?!" You shouted, throwing a look over your right shoulder.
"Deadeye! Deadeye! It's no good!" Bob replied, his brows upturning in a show of defeat. His hoarse voice held a tone of frustration as he breathed heavily, his throat burning. "Sorry, I can't get a lock!" Bob said again. You shut your eyes in defeat. Looks like you're dropping blind.
With a sharp inhale, you narrowed your eyes on the white container sat in front of you. "We're out of time, I'm dropping blind!" As you lined up the crosshair as close as you could on the target, your thumb pressed the red button upon the stick; a soft click emitting from it. Two missiles deployed from the bottom of your F-18 and they hit slightly to the right of the centre circle. "Shit, missed!" You growled in frustration. Immediately, your fisted hands went to grab a hold of the stick again and pulled it back, setting the jet to fly upwards. Your body sunk into the leather seat and it felt like your chest was on fire again from how hard you were fighting to breathe. Gravity pushed down on your lungs like a huge boulder. You could feel the whoosh of blood leaving your brain and travelling to your legs; your heart beat going ten to the dozen. A suffocated grunt emerged from your mouth as alarms suddenly started to sound from the inside. A jarring crunch rattled through the body of the jet as a bright red light flashed, showing 'Engine Failure'. "Shit!" You gasped, eyes going wide in panic. They darted across the front panel of the jet, the red glare of the glowing buttons reflecting on your visor. "Engine failure, engine failure," You repeated as your twitching fingers flew to flick a few select switches in an attempt to regain control. "Attempting to restart engines."
Your stomach hit your throat as the plane began to fall downwards, stuck in an uncontrollable spin. One hand gripped the stick in front and pulled back in an attempt to pull up, however, it didn't help. With the insane momentum and speed at which you were falling, it made your head begin to spin; your vision soon becoming victim to it as well. "Come on, baby, come on!" You screamed, petrified, the cold air beginning to scrape against your throat as you desperately fought to breathe.
"Y/C/S, eject, eject!" You heard Maverick shout in your ear through comms. Your mind went foggy as you stared at the oncoming twirling earth below you. "You're in a tailspin at a low altitude, it's unrecoverable! Eject!" He shouted again. Your breathing was ragged and wretched as you threw your hands on the handle beneath your pilot seat and tugged at it.
"It's not working, Mav!" You screamed through the radio. Your instantly eyes darted to the altitude needle, which was spinning round and round as you descended to the ground. The numbers were falling impossibly fast now, nearing three and a half thousand feet now. You were losing air, and fast.
"Keep trying! Pull it as hard as you can, you've got this!" Maverick desperately shouted, watching helplessly from afar. His mind began to scramble as waves of anxiety and panic flooded his body. Goose. "C'mon, Y/C/S!" He screamed and tried to blink away the flashbacks that began to trickle into his head, tears pricking his eyes. He couldn't lose someone else this way. And especially not you.
"Goose, I'm losing control, I'm losing control, I can't control it!" Maverick said quickly, his hands gripping onto the centre stick for dear life. "It won't recover, shit!" The environment surrounding the two was spinning, disorientating the two young pilots. From the momentum of the spin, Maverick was shoved against the wall of the cockpit, his hands pressed up against the window like a child at a candy shop.
"Mav, we're out of control! This shit- this is not good!" Goose grunted, the force of the fall crushing his lungs. Maverick's mind was spinning just like his jet.
"I can't reach the ejection handle, Goose, you gotta do it," Maverick shouted from in front. "Eject, eject, eject!" Goose did so, and then the unimaginable happened...
"Altitude two thousand!" You breathed out, your throat was immensely tired from breathing so heavily. Maverick's breathing was ragged and fast as his eyes never left your falling jet, silently praying and hoping that a miracle would happen. With one last laborious sigh, you tugged at the handle again and it clicked, the cockpit flying open and shooting my body into the sky. A loud crack engulfed my head as I was shot upwards, a ragged gasped ripped from your throat at the sudden shock. Your head had flown backwards and smacked against the top of the canopy. Before a blanket of black nothingness swamped my vision, the parachute deployed, slowly lowering your limp and possibly lifeless body to the ground.
Maverick screaming your name was the last thing you heard.
****
Bright and blinding white lights pricked your eyes as you opened them gradually, blinking heavily to adjust to the dazzling LEDs. Your vision was blurry and disoriented as your red eyes rolled around the grey room, landing on a fuzzy, dark-haired figure. They were dressed in an olive green flying suit, black boots to match. Their head was lolling forwards as they leaned against the back of the battleship-grey wall. Squinting quickly, you soon recognised it to be none other than your instructor, Maverick. A soft gasp escaped your chapped lips and your once-pale cheeks turned pink at the sight of him. Looking downwards, you saw you were still in your own olive green flying suit, laying on a hospital bed, a drip connected to to the top of your hand. You swallowed back a gag, feeling queasy at the thought of a needle. You never did have a strong stomach for things like blood and guts - nobody would ever catch you watching a horror film.
You sighed. Looking to the left, you spotted your flying helmet, a long splinter running from the right side of it to the crown; a splatter of blood staining the once-white helmet. What the...? Your breathing suddenly hitched as you wracked your brain in a poor attempt to think back to what happened. Before you could brace yourself, it suddenly all came flooding back. Climbing in your jet, practicing with the squad, pulling up, the engines stalling and failing to restart, the ejection handle not working... You had been so close to death. As another shaky inhale swept cold air down your sore throat, you glanced back to Maverick who was stirring. As he raised his head, you noticed his eyes were red and puffy. You frowned. Mav's eyes met yours and he rushed to stand up, swiftly moving beside your bedside. "H-hey," He stumbled, a bright grin spreading across his features. "How are you, uh, feeling?" Maverick asked, his voice shaky.
You returned his kind smile, staring into his ocean-blue eyes. You'd never seen him like this before. "I'm okay, are you?" You questioned, glancing at his dishevelled attire. Maverick didn't answer, he only bit his bottom lip, fighting back a sob. "Mav?" You asked again - softly this time. You reached out a hand to touch his forearm as he sunk back down into the chair he was previously passed out on.
"I'm so sorry, Y/N," He breathed out. His voice was trembling and it was breaking your heart to see someone who you loved and adored like this. "I'm so sorry." He said again.
"Mav, it's okay, I'm okay. It wasn't your fault." You soothingly mumbled, gently rubbing your thumb against his forearm. You wanted to let your hand fall onto his, but you didn't want to cross a line. "Hey, look at me," You smiled, reaching your shaky fingers out to push his chin upwards. Tears brimmed his crinkled, blue eyes and you gasped softly. "I'm alright, Mav. I promise." He nodded, inhaling sharply. Maverick quickly swiped at his eyes, trying to silence his tears.
"I know," He sighed, his chest rising and falling gently. You gave him an encouraging smile. "I-I just thought... Goose.. it was too... similar..." He stumbled over his words again, pursing his lips and as he looked away from you. "I thought we lost you." His voice broke at the end of his sentence as his teary eyes met yours again.
"Mav.." You sighed sharply. "You should know you can't get rid of me, especially not now." You joked, making Maverick chuckle. He blew out a short breath of air through his gritted teeth. "You're stuck with me." You said again with an amused smile.
"Yeah," He hummed, looking at you. His eyes suddenly lit up and he reached down slowly beside the makeshift chair he was perched upon, his hands returning with a small, stuffed teddy bear which held a blue heart, and knitted on it was 'Get well soon!'. His other hand held a bag of your favourite chocolates: Y/F/C. "The squad got these for you, as a... get well soon gift," Maverick said, smiling gently. His eyes wouldn't leave yours and your cheeks flushed at the gesture. He handed you the teddy bear and chocolates, in which you graciously accepted them with a joyful grin, placing the chocolates on the side table to the right of you, but keeping the teddy with you.
"Thank you. The teddy bear is my favourite, I think." You giggled, patting it's head.
"Um," He cleared his throat, leaning back down to where he retrieved the gifts. Maverick leaned back up, holding a small, yet beautiful bouquet of white calla lilies. You audibly gasped at the sight, a big grin spreading across your tired-looking face. "These are for you, too." Mav said, almost bashfully.
"Oh my gosh!" You exclaimed softly. "These are my favourite!" Maverick handed them to you, his fingers brushing against yours slightly. Your eyes fluttered at the touch. "Who are they from?" You asked, pressing them gently to your nose with a happy smile to inhale the mellow scent. Maverick's eyes softened as he watched you, a content smile slipping onto his lips.
"Uh, they're, err, from me." He coughed, as if trying to hide his embarrassment. You suppressed a laugh in an attempt not to embarrass the captain. You thought he'd been through enough emotional trauma for today.
"That's very sweet of you, Mav, you didn't have to do that. Thank you." You grinned, fidgety fingers playing with the pale white bow that held the stems together. Your glossy eyes watched the captain shuffle in his seat. You couldn't fight the warm feeling growing across your chest as you stared at him. The grin on your lips was there to stay.
"I think it's the least I could do." Maverick said softly, his gaze locked with yours still. You let out a small, content hum. As you were about to ask him a question, a knock rattled on the door. A quick sigh left your lips as Maverick quickly stood up, your eyes still glued to the back of him. He walked over to the door to open it, revealing Phoenix and Bob. "Hey Phoenix, Bob." Maverick said, smiling kindly. He stepped aside to let them in. "I'll relieve you guys of my presence." He meekly joked and sent you another soft smile with a wave, walking off.
"Hey, guys." You said, grinning. Phoenix and Bob wandered over toward you with worried eyes and kind smiles.
"You seem pretty chipper for someone who almost died." Phoenix laughed, leaning down to give you a gentle hug, careful not to squeeze too tight in case you were still tender. Bob switched places with Phoenix, his eyes seeming to settle as he noticed you were okay.
"Hey, Bob." You giggled, giving him a soft hug. He blushed as he pulled away, running a hand through his bouncy blonde curls.
"How are you feeling?" He asked, eyes twitching slightly as he remembered the sheer panic washing over his body during the incident.
"I'm okay, thanks Bob. Still in one piece, I suppose." You hummed with a smile, glancing between the pair. She held up a bag and wiggled her brows, placing it on the bed, to the side of your thigh. You frowned at her. She frowned at me back.
"What's wrong?" Phoenix asked.
"Err, didn't you already get me get well soon gifts?" You cocked a brow, looking a little confused at her gesture. She shared a confused look with Bob.
"No... why?" Bob said slowly, his eyes finding the teddy bear, chocolates and flowers that Maverick had dropped off. His brows shot up as he nudged Phoenix with his elbow and nodded at the gifts sat upon your side table. "Who are those from?" He asked, looking back to you with a suspicious smile. Your mouth fell open, putting things together.
"You.. guys..?" You frowned. Phoenix's face broke out into a grin.
"No, this is from all of us." She replied, pulling out a bottle of your favourite alcohol, a card and a pair of socks with 'Accident Prone' written all over them. You laughed out loud as you looked at the socks, your mind instantly thinking of Hangman. Son of a bitch.
"Thank you so much, guys. I really appreciate your thoughtful gifts. It's really sweet of you." You smiled cheerfully as Phoenix put the gifts back into the bag and placed it onto the floor beside your bed. The two of them smiled at you, but you could tell they were itching to know who dropped off the presents beside you. You sighed. "Maverick."
"Maverick?" Phoenix repeated, seemingly in shock. You tried to hide the blush creeping up your neck toward your cheeks. "Are you blushing, Y/N?" She squinted at you with a cheeky smile. You frowned and pulled up your flying suit, trying to hide underneath the material, despite it not being long enough so you sort of just looked a bit silly.
"No! I just think it was sweet - you know, that he got me those things." You sighed, sinking into the hard and uncomfortable bed beneath you. "He didn't have to." You said, looking at your two friends.
"But he did." Phoenix smirked, and shared an indecipherable look with Bob. You frowned at them. "The flowers are a nice touch, aren't those your favourite?" She asked, narrowing her eyes as her smirk intensified. You reached your hand up to scratch the back of your neck nervously, glancing away.
"Err, yeah," You smiled, letting your hand fall back down to your lap. You let your fingers play with a loose thread hanging from your olive-green flying suit. "But it's not like it's hard to guess, you know-" You quickly tried to reason with them, but they weren't having it.
"Wait, so that's where Mav went yesterday?" Bob asked Phoenix and turned to her. You caught wind of the last word he said. Your brows furrowed once again. The amount of times you had frowned in the past few minutes made you wonder whether your brows were gonna get stuck together.
"Wait, wait, yesterday? How long was I out?" You sat up and stared at the two pilots who turned their attention back to you.
"Like a day and a half." Bob answered, swallowing nervously. You groaned, falling back into the bed with a soft thud. "We all came to visit you as much as we could, but Maverick has been here the most. He didn't leave your side after what happened, apart from when we had to train. But as soon as that was over, he was immediately back here." He explained. Phoenix only stared at you with a small, reassuring smile. You narrowed your tired eyes at her and she grinned.
"Sounds like Mav's got a soft spot for a certain pilot." Phoenix sing-songed, laughing and your brows shot up at her words.
"I thought he was dating or seeing Penny? You know.. from The Hard Deck?" You asked out of curiosity. But in reality, you were trying to work out whether his intentions were innocent, or if they meant a little more. Bob shook his head at you and your heart started to beat a little faster.
"No, they're just very good friends." Phoenix said, folding her arms. "Why, ya interested?" She snickered at you and in reply you rolled your eyes at her.
"No!" You answered quickly - almost too quickly which caught Phoenix's attention. "No, I just.. I was just curious." You tried to add, but it was too late. She already knew. You sighed at the realisation. "Can you.. just keep this between us, guys?" You mumbled, fiddling with the thin, white blanket draped over your clothed thighs.
"Of course, Y/C/S." Bob nodded, smiling kindly at you.
"You got it, Y/N." Phoenix smiled too. "Well, we're gonna leave you be now. I'm so glad you're okay. It looked nasty. We were all worried about you." She said and leaned down to hug you, pressing a soft kiss to your bandaged forehead. Bob followed her and gave you a gentle hug, worried that he'd hurt you.
"See you later, Y/C/S. Get well soon." Bob said as he walked out with Phoenix, giving a cheerful wave to you as he closed the door. You let out a long, heavy sigh as you leaned back into your uncomfortable bed, closing your eyes. You let yourself fall into a much needed, deep, deep sleep.
****
It had been several days since the incident, and you were discharged from the infirmary. You had been back up in the air since it happened - Maverick made you go back up. If you didn't, you didn't think you would have ever. Speaking of Maverick, the two of you hadn't spoken about what happened in the infirmary a few days ago now. You were frustrated, you wanted to know why he lied to you, why didn't he just tell you that he got those gifts for you? Why did he have to say it was from the squad?
You were currently sunbathing on a beach chair outside The Hard Deck, with the sun beaming down on your sun-lotioned skin. With a soft grunt, you leant up, and pulled down your sunglasses with a single finger, watching the squad play defensive and offensive football with each other. Loud laughter and shouts echoed from them all as they bumped and knocked into one another. You groaned and stood up, sulky because of the fact that you weren't allowed to play due to your recent injury. "You alright, Y/N/N?" You heard Penny call from behind you. You threw her a smile.
"Yeah, I'm just getting antsy," You replied with a frustrated sigh. "Gonna go for a swim." You said, slipping off your flip flops.
Penny smiled at you. The bar owner had a soft spot for you, and she always made sure you were okay. Even the slightest change in your aura made her suspicious. "Have fun out there!" She exclaimed, turning back to her book, but still keeping an eye on you. Underneath the baggy, lilac beach dress you were currently wearing, you wore a white bikini. Just as your fingers were about to undo the knot, a sinking feeling of insecurity froze your body in place, refusing to remove your beach cover up.
"Hey, Pen?" You called over to Penny, turning around to look at the brunette. "Mind if I grab a shot? I'll leave some notes behind the bar." She let out a soft laugh and nodded, gesturing to go ahead with her hand.
"Of course, and don't worry about the money, it's on the house." Penny smiled. You thanked her and rushed inside behind the bar, pouring yourself a large shot of the strongest alcohol there was. You knocked it back, exhaling sharply as the alcohol burned down your throat.
"Woo!" You quietly said, grinning to yourself like a mental asylum patient from Batman. "That's better, gosh." Before heading back out, you quickly adjusted your bikini top to make sure your breasts were definitely held in place, and you wouldn't suffer a dreaded nip-slip. Making your way to the exit, you walked through the double white wooden doors, the warm, salty sea air hitting your face like a soft wave. You began to walk down the beach, passing Penny, giving her a small smile. She let out a wolf whistle as she watched you walk by, letting out a short giggle. Your cheeks reddened at the noise and you removed the beach dress from your body, throwing it on the beach chair. With a quick sigh, you composed yourself and made your way to the sea, keeping your eyes trained on the horizon ahead. "Okay, you got this." You mumbled to yourself, placing my black aviators on your nose. You prayed to the heavens above that you didn't trip and fall over - because God knows if anything was to happen, it'd be that.
As you passed the squad playing football, a few wolf whistles suddenly arose from your right. You looked over to see Hangman and Coyote, the blonde pilot winking as his eyes ran up and down your figure. "There she is!" He shouted with a cheeky grin. You threw him the middle finger, and shook your head, walking a little faster. "Watch yourself, Klutz!" He warned jokingly and it made you grin, your eyes looking to the left of them, spotting Rooster and Maverick. Surprisingly - or not - they were staring too. You swallowed, the familiar and unwelcome feeling of insecurity returning to you. The warm sea finally greeted your toes as you treaded into it, your fingers rushing to adjust your bikini bottoms as you still felt eyes on you.
As you kept walking further into the blue abyss, you reached a deeper area and felt comfortable enough to relax, jumping up from the sea bed and letting yourself float atop the sea. The sweet relief that washed over you made you moan, it felt like a weight had been lifted from you.
"Boy, am I glad I came over." Hangman's smug voice suddenly disturbed you from your short-lived zen paradise and you groaned out loud in irritation at the pilot. As you sat up, you looked at him, eyes studying his grinning face. His blonde hair was sweaty and dishevelled, his bare chest gleaming in the sunlight from the mix of sun cream and sweat upon it. You sat up, fingers pushing back your black aviators as you felt them sliding down the bridge of your nose.
"What do you want, Bagman?" You groaned again, folding your arms against your chest as you noticed his eyes drop to your dripping wet bikini top. "If you've come to perv on me, bud, you've chosen the wrong person." You warned him and jumped in the opposite direction of Hangman to escape, although his hand caught your waist and pulled you back to him. "Jake." You sighed, dragging out his name to express your annoyance.
"I love the way you say my name, babe," He joked, placing a hand over his heart and feigning a swoon. "No, I just wanted to see how ya were feeling. I ain't seen ya for a while." Hangman said, his hand letting go of your waist as you remained where he placed you. You frowned, absolutely gobsmacked at his answer.
"Wait, what? You, aka fuckin' Hangman, care about how I feel? Somebody else other than yourself?!" You laughed out loud, splashing him playfully. He laughed with you and rolled his eyes at you, waiting for you to continue. "Well, if you really wanna know, I'm fine." You said with an unbothered shrug. Suddenly, alarm bells rang in your head. "Err, did you talk to Phoenix or Bob recently?" You narrowed your eyes at him. Hangman only smirked at you and you felt your heart drop as your anxiety sky-rocketed. "Oh, fuck my life." You groaned even louder than before, letting your head loll back in the seawater.
"To be honest, I overheard them, they didn't say anythin' to me," Hangman said with a shrug. "Your secret is safe with me, my fair lady." He smirked, bowing dramatically. You rolled your eyes at his pathetic attempt to make you laugh.
"I wish it wasn't, god damn it." You said, looking over to the squad who were still playing football. You caught Maverick's eyes and looked away quickly, averting your sheepish gaze to Jake who was currently undressing you with his mind, his blue eyes on your breasts. "Stop it, dickhead." You squinted your eyes at him and he just smirked, the corner of his mouth perking up as he looked into your eyes instead. There was a moment of silence as Jake glanced to the beach at the boys and Phoenix, the bright sun glinting off the golden metal rims of his aviators.
"Wanna make him jealous?" Hangman suddenly asked, nodding to the group on the beach with the same smirk.
"Not particularly." You replied, frowning.
"Ain't he been ignoring you or somethin', sweetheart?" He asked with a soft voice, pouting his lips at you. You fought back the urge to punch Hangman in his perfect face.
"No," You said, squinting at him. "We.. just haven't crossed paths." You mumbled and glanced to the beach again. Sighing, you were clearly frustrated. Why didn't Maverick just talk to you? Why was it so damn difficult for him? Hangman patiently waited for your reply. "Okay, fine, he's been ignoring me since he gave me those gifts. So what?" You shrugged and tried to ignore the sad, plummeting feeling growing in your chest. It did hurt how Mav acted like nothing happened when you returned to training, you couldn't deny that. It sort of made you rethink the whole thing.
"So..." Hangman dragged out, glancing down as he scratched at his forearm for a quick moment. "Maybe you should try somethin' different." He suggested with a shrug. You looked at the blonde with a confused expression. He rolled his eyes. "Just trust me." He said, before taking you into his arms. You had no time to protest against his advances; a loud gasp escaped you as his hands found the bottom of your thighs, lifting you up to his chest.
"Hangman!" You squealed as he spun you around, a hand flying to his neck to steady yourself. Hangman laughed, continuing to spin you around. "Put me down!" You giggled softly, looking down at him. He was grinning as he gazed up at you, the blue water twirled around his lower half, salty droplets splashing against his shiny, toned torso. Suddenly, the spinning got too much and your breathing hitched - your mind was brought back to the day you lost control of your jet. "Jake," You breathed out his real name, hoping he'd listen this time, fingernails digging into his shoulders. "Stop!" You nervously laughed, trying to push yourself away from him. "Jake, please!" You cried out loud this time, tears starting to prick your eyes. You felt dizzy, nauseous, and you desperately needed to get to land, and fast. He stopped instantly, and his face softened as he watched you closely.
"Hey, it's alright," Hangman said, unsure of what was happening. As he gently let go of you, you fell, splashing in the water as your vision began to spin uncontrollably, just like the accident. "Hey, Y/N, slow down there!" He called out as you desperately tried to swim back to shore, your chest beginning to burn from the tired breaths you tried to inhale. Jake's arms suddenly scooped me up and I broke down, sobbing. "It's alright, Y/C/S. You're okay." He said softly, running out of the sea with you, placing his hands upon your shoulders in a poor attempt to comfort you. "Mav! Phoenix!" You heard Hangman yell from beside you, feeling the grains of sand graze against your backside. Maverick's head instantly perked up at the sound of his name, and he sprinted over to Hangman and you, kneeling down beside your hyperventilating body. Phoenix was here just as quick, kneeling down on the opposite side of you.
"Hey, Y/C/S," Maverick said quietly, removing his aviators as you desperately tried to catch your breath. You looked at him, Y/C/E eyes locking with his own baby blue ones. Tears began to fall down your cheeks. His eyes softened as he looked at you. It felt like a knife had been thrown into his heart as he watched you. He desperately wanted to take you into his arms, whisper sweet-nothings to you and tell you that you'd be alright. But he couldn't do that, you weren't his. And he didn't think you could ever be. "You're alright, sweetheart, deep breaths." Maverick said gently, making you heart race at the sound of the pet name - it didn't really help to calm you down. "Just focus on me, my voice and the smell of the sea," He smiled weakly at you, his large hands coming to cup your cheeks. Your hands clenched into fists as you wrapped them behind your thighs.
Your breaths were trembling and unsteady as you squeezed your eyes shut, trying to single-handedly focus on what Maverick had said. "That's it." He said again, his soft eyes watching your chest slow down. Soon enough, you managed to steady your breathing and your racing heart.
"Jesus," You sighed quietly and let your gaze fall to the ground, avoiding the captain's gaze. "I don't know what happened." You mumbled, gathering up some courage to look at Maverick who only looked concerned. Hangman and Phoenix had given you two some space as you spotted them stood together, observing you with worried looks spread across their faces. You looked back to Maverick. "When Hangman was spinning me, it just made me think of.." You squeezed your eyes shut at the thought and Maverick's eyes fell to the ground, his hand still sat upon your head, slowly sliding to the side of your neck.
"I know," He said quietly, the pad of his thumb caressing your jaw. "Come on, let's get you home, Y/N." Maverick sighed, holding out a hand for you to take. You reluctantly accepted it, a pang of pain shooting through your chest at the lack of emotion he was showing towards you. What did you do?
Maverick lead you back to the beach chair, his hands picking up all of your belongings swiftly. "Did you have anything else?" He asked quietly, not bothering to look at you. You felt another wave of tears about to fall, but you bit your lip to hold them back. You didn't want to cry in front of him again, not today. Not ever.
"No." You answered dryly, walking past Maverick to slip on your flip-flops. His brows knitted together for a split second as your shoulder brushed past his in a hostile manner. What did he do for you to do that? "I got a lift here with Phoenix, so I'll grab an Uber back home." You said, shrugging. His brows furrowed as if you had just proposed to assassinate the president.
"Don't be ridiculous, I'm giving you a ride home, Y/N." Maverick stated, his tone stern. "C'mon." He said, placing a hand on the small of your back to lead you to his bike. You hated the way that his hand set your body on fire, the way it sent a pleasurable shiver running down your spine. Your eyes began to well up with tears again. "You alright?" He glanced at you, noticing how your pace had slowed down. The two of you were a few feet from his Kawasaki.
"What is your problem?" You seethed, moving away from him, clutching your white beach dress close to your body. He looked shocked at your sudden outburst, his eyes widening in shock. "You-you acted so... different with me in the infirmary. You even bought me chocolates, flowers! Even a teddy bear, Mav!" You exclaimed, hot tears spilling down your face at this point. You stared at Maverick, with quivering lips, who looked hurt. A blanket of silence fell on the two of you. Maverick's eyes darted to the ground as a short sigh slipped from his lips, the guilt finally appearing on his face. His brows fell as he looked back to you. "Phoenix told me that they weren't from the squad," You said quietly, sniffling. "Why did you buy me flowers, Mav? How did you know they were my favourite?" He dropped his eyes again, looking down at the ground, sucking in his bottom lip. Just as Maverick was about to answer you, another wave of upset washed over you. "Then you just ignore me afterwards? Like nothing happened? Like we didn't feel something in that room, Maverick." You cried and he walked towards you, his hand slowly coming to cup your cheek in a tender way.
"I never meant to hurt you, Y/C/S." Maverick said quietly, his eyes meeting yours. You glanced away from a moment, the feeling too strong for you to handle. "I felt something with you in that room, and it scared me," He mumbled, brushing the pad of his thumb against your tear-stained cheek. "I haven't felt that way for a long time. I thought I lost you that day, and I couldn't go through something like that again, Y/N. I can't. It-it's too much, I can just about handle looking at Rooster every day without being reminded of his dad." Maverick sighed, his shoulders falling. "Every day it's like I torture myself. I think back to that exact moment, thinkin' about how he would've lived if I just did this, or I just did that. The guilt.. it never leaves me, Y/N." He said quietly, tears welling in his eyes now. Of course, Goose. Rooster's dad.
"Mav, come here." You whispered and wrapped your arms around his neck, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. "It's alright. It wasn't your fault," You mumbled into his ear and his arms snaked around your waist, holding you tightly as if you would disappear into thin air. "It wasn't your fault." You whispered with a hushed sigh and placed a gentle hand on his cheek, wiping away a stray tear that fell from his eye. He smiled weakly at you, and you could hear your heart break at the sight of him so broken like this. "It's okay, honey." You sniffled, trying not to cry anymore. Your eyes never left each others, and you couldn't suppress the butterflies tingling in your stomach, the pleasant feeling flourishing across your chest. Without thinking, you whispered. "I think I love you, Pete."
Maverick chuckled gently as his heart skipped a beat, a soft blow of air shooting from his nose. "I think I love you as well, Y/N." He said quietly, leaning down to press a sweet and soft kiss to your lips. You leaned into his touch, your body setting on fire as he kissed you, your fingers playing with the short, rough hairs at the back of his neck. Maverick's calloused hands settled on your bare-skinned waist, his fingers gently squeezing your soft flesh. "You've no idea how long I've waited to do that." He laughed quietly and you joined him, nodding.
"Me too."

Maverick drummed his long fingers against the bar top, the soft thuds echoing gently in the empty bar. The pilot had come early to visit his good friend Penny, seeking friendly advice on his upcoming date with you. He was currently waiting on the barmaid to return through the kitchen doors, his eyes anxiously darting between the double swing doors and the hard, wooden top beneath his fidgeting fingers. Impatiently, he blew out a short breath of air through his mouth, quickly glancing at the digital watch that rested on his right wrist.
"Need to be somewhere, Pete?" Penny's amused voice called out from behind him, making the older pilot jump in his seat. A grin reached his lips as he chuckled at her question, turning to face the woman in question.
"Sorry," He sighed. "It's.. it's just been a long time." Maverick shrugged, his tongue coming to poke at the inside of his bottom lip in mild frustration. Penny couldn't help the smirk that came to rest on her lips as she strutted behind the bar, placing her palms down on the top of it, leaning against it.
"Pete, I've known you long enough and I know you well enough to know that you shouldn't be fretting over a first date. You must've had what, like... a million of them?" Penny teased, a quiet laugh leaving her lips. Maverick joined her in laughing and let his head fall back as he sighed.
He shook his head and swallowed. "I know, but, Y/N... they're different." Maverick's brows knotted together, shrugging. In all honesty, he was nervous - a complete and utter wreck. He had no idea where to take you or what to do. The man was desperate for it to be the best date you've been on - because that's what you deserved. The last time he really went on a first date was definitely more than a few years ago, so he wasn't really up to date with what the current... 'trends' were.
"Is it because... they're younger?" Penny quietly asked, her curious eyes trained on the experienced pilot that sat anxiously in front of her. She knew he was worrying about making a good first impression with you, and she also knew how he felt about you. It wasn't anything like his previous flames. Maverick didn't answer her, fearful of what she might think. "Alright," Penny smiled kindly, her straight and white teeth poking out from beneath her pink lips. "What do they love to do? Or what's one of their favourite things?" She questioned and cocked her head at the pilot as he cast his gaze downwards in an attempt to rattle his brain for an answer.
"They love sunrises and sunsets." He replied, a faint smile crossing his features as he reminisced on a warm summer morning where you had woken up extra early to watch the sun rise and called him, eager to make sure he had also witnessed it at the same time.
Your phone buzzed to life, the theme song to The Big Bang Theory blaring out into your bedroom. With a heavy groan, you flung your hand down onto your bedside table, half-asleep, your fingers fumbling against your phone screen in a weak attempt to silence the headache inducing music. Despite it being your favourite show, the theme song soon got old and it made you want to get up - hence why you had made it your alarm clock sound.
You raised your phone to your eyes, squinting at the bright screen as you glanced away for a moment, giving yourself time to adjust to the sudden change in lighting. Five fifty-two in the morning. Rubbing the sleep out of your eyes with heavy hands, you swiftly slipped out of your dishevelled bed; the cold, brisk morning air hugging your half-dressed figure. A brief shiver plagued your body and you turned around quickly, grabbing the duvet and cocooning yourself within it like a caterpillar. You rushed to your bedroom window, a goofy smile reaching your lips as you eagerly ripped open the curtains, eyes falling on the red and orange hue that was slowly growing over the horizon.
"Mav," You mumbled to yourself, reaching to the side of your now-naked bed for your phone. Feeling the cool, glass material against your fingertips you pulled it close to you, opening it quickly. You scrolled through your contacts before you found his, and dialled it, your smile widening.
The shrill trill of Maverick's phone rang out in his bedroom and he stirred awake, a frustrated groan reverberating from his bare chest. "Who.. the fu.." He grumbled, clumsily turning over in his bed as he grabbed his phone with an exasperated huff. This better be important, he thought. "Hello?" He answered with a husky voice.
"Mav?" Your sweet voice squeaked quietly, and Maverick felt his previous frustration melt away instantly. A content smile spread across his cheeks.
"Hey, Y/N, everything okay?" Maverick asked, quickly checking the time. Five fifty-six in the morning. His brows furrowed and his concern grew slightly.
"Yes," You bit down on your lip, nibbling anxiously. "Go and look out your window." You quickly said, earning a confused grunt from the man on the other end of the line. "Mav, just do it." You laughed.
"Alright." He sighed, unable to hide the amused smile playing on his lips. The older pilot stood up slowly, a hand coming up to rub his face to try and wake himself up a bit more. He pulled open his curtains, the bright morning blinding him momentarily. "What am I looking at?" Maverick asked, quite obviously confused. He expected you to be standing there with a boombox like John Cusack in the film Say Anything, but instead he was only greeted with nothing.
"The sunrise, isn't it beautiful?" You gushed, letting your head rest against your fisted hand, which was leaning against the windowsill. Maverick, still being half-asleep, stared confusedly before he realised what you were talking about. His gaze lifted to the coral sky, watching the clouds part like the Red Sea as the sun gradually rose from it's resting place, below the horizon.
"Oh, yeah, it's stunning, Y/N," Maverick agreed, his heart feeling full. He had just realised that you had called him so he could enjoy the beautiful sunrise with you, and it made him ecstatic. "I've seen something better, though." He admitted, a gentle laugh escaping his grinning mouth.
"Really?" You asked obliviously.
"Yeah, you." He replied smoothly, making you blush. You let out a shy giggle at his words.
"That was cheesy, Mav."
"You need some cheesiness in your life, otherwise it's boring, trust me." He said, still staring out at the rising sun. He hoped you were doing the same.
Your lips had twisted into another bashful smile. "If you're the one saying it, then I think I can tolerate it." You giggled.
"Pete?" Penny called out to her old friend, an amused grin on her lips.
"What?" Maverick blinked.
"I said why don't you take them to see the sunrise or sunset in your plane?" She laughed, clearly amused by the fact that the older pilot had just totally and completely zoned out by thinking about you. Maybe you were special after all.
"Oh yeah, that's a great idea, Pen." He was pleased at Penny's suggestion - for one it included flying, and two, it involved flying with you. "You think they'd like that?" Maverick asked, just needing a little bit more reassurance.
"Definitely. They're always beaming whenever they talk about you flying. I think Y/N'd love it." Penny grinned, tapping the bar top with her palm as if she was securing the deal. Maverick thought it over for a moment, his gaze falling to his fidgeting fingers.
"Alright, I'll give it go." He shrugged, standing up from his seat. "Thanks again, Penny. I'll let you know how it goes." Maverick threw the barmaid a grateful smile, and she returned it, waving him off.

Right Down The Line by Gerry Rafferty was playing out in Maverick's hangar as he was making some last-minute adjustments to his plane before you arrived. "You know I need your love," He mumbled to himself, his foot tapping rhythmically against the concrete floor. "You've got that hold over me." He quietly sang to himself as his skilful fingers worked in the engine of his P-51 Mustang.
"Long as I got your love, you know that I'll never leave." You sang back, poking your head over the wing of the 1945 plane, and Maverick almost lost his footing from your sudden presence. The man stumbled backwards as he sucked in a sharp breath. "Sorry," You giggled as you watched his shocked face twist back into a happy smile.
"Jesus," He chuckled, running a hand through his hair. "Don't worry about it, I'll get you back once we're in the sky." Maverick teased with a wink as he stepped forwards again, finishing up on the engine.
"Once we're where?" You repeated, utterly surprised.
"In the sky." He said, grinning. You couldn't hide your excitement.
Your mouth fell agape, eyes lighting up with elation. "You're telling me, that I, Y/N L/N, get to fly with the Captain Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell?" You gasped quietly, glancing between the old model plane and it's owner.
"I suppose so, yeah," He laughed lightly at your reaction and he couldn't disguise the happiness that was currently shooting through his body. Maverick was thrilled that you had a positive reaction to his suggestion - deep down he was worried that you'd be terrified and you'd refuse to fly with him. "Have you ever been in a plane before?" Maverick asked, honestly a little curious and nervous.
"Um," You swallowed. "Once or twice, but commercially, not like this." A nervous giggle escaped you and it warmed Maverick's heart.
"I think you'll love it."

You and Maverick spoke for a little while, and he was even kind enough to teach you a little about his P-51 Mustang, which you were - of course - delighted to listen to. The two of you now sat inside his plane as he taxied it to the runway, and you felt your heart begin to race at the anticipation. "Ready?" You heard Maverick call from in front of you, the reflection of his grinning face mirrored in the acrylic canopy. An eager smile reached your lips as your hands flew up to adjust the headset atop your head that he had given you.
"Yes!" You replied back, voice full of enthusiasm. Maverick smiled to himself as he pushed the throttle forwards, the plane beginning to race towards the end of the runway. As it caught enough speed, Maverick pulled back on the centre stick, the plane beginning to lift off from the ground. You sucked in a breath as you felt your stomach drop slightly from the sudden change in altitude.
"Talk to me, Y/N," Maverick said from the front seat with a small smile on his lips. You were absolutely stunned by how gorgeous the world looks from up here, that you almost didn't hear him.
"Wow," You breathed out, pressing your hands against the canopy like a child at a candy shop. "It's beautiful up here!" You gushed, eyes darting all over the Earth below you. Bright, luscious green trees dotted the ground, sandwiched between small and big white houses, the red roofs creating a stark contrast.
"Yeah, it really is." Maverick smiled, his hand coming up to push his aviators back up onto the bridge of his nose. He angled the plane at a sharp, almost vertical slant, and you squeaked at the instantaneous action.
"Mav!" You laughed, squeezing your eyes shut, your hands flying up to grab a hold of the headset that was slipping off of you.
"I told you I'd get you back," He laughed at you, returning the plane to a horizontal position. As you reopened your eyes, slowly, the sky was painted a beautiful shade of peach and pink, with a mix of lavender smothered above it. "You seen it yet?" He asked quietly, looking out of the window to admire the natural phenomenon.
"Holy shit..." You breathed out as your eyes widened like a doe, staring at the breath-taking sunset taking place in front of you. Maverick grinned at your reaction, holding back the happy laugh that was scratching at his throat to escape him. "Mav, this is beautiful!" You gushed, mouth falling agape as he turned the plane once more, and another squeak left your lips. "Mav!" You exclaimed.
"I'll stop now, I promise." His chest bounced from the hearty laugh that escaped him, his cheeks beginning to feel a little sore from the constant grin stuck on his face.

Maverick had landed the plane and was currently taxiing it into the hangar. As he parked the plane in it's spot, he shut off the engine and glanced behind his shoulder to look at you, who currently had the world's biggest smile on your face. "We have to do that again, please!" You demanded, your smile growing into a toothy grin. Maverick chuckled at your enthusiasm, and he nodded at you.
"Of course." Maverick assured you, his hands clicking open the canopy with a soft thud. He climbed out onto the wing, shuffling the front seat forwards so you could slip out of it as well. As you crawled forwards and out of the cockpit, he offered you a hand and you gratefully accepted it, gripping it tightly. If anything, you were afraid you'd slip and fall off of the wing of the plane. "Careful," He mumbled, watching your feet. You felt your cheeks burn as you stared at his face, a little awe-struck if you were honest with yourself.
"Thanks," You choked out as Maverick kept your hand in his, his feet stepping back to the edge of the wing. As he let go of your hand for a split second, he hopped down and held out both of his hands this time to encourage you to jump down. "Please don't drop me." You giggled nervously as you bent down to plop your bum on the wing, legs dangling off of it.
"I've got you, I promise." Maverick assured you, a kind smile reaching his lips. You blushed at his handsome face, biting down on the inside of your lip as he moved toward you, his hands landing on your waist. "One, two, three!" He counted, slipping you off of the wing on the last number, his grip tightening around your waist as he pulled you flush against his body.
"Thank you," You said quietly, utterly breathless at the close proximity between the two of you. You let your eyes fall to his parted lips, quickly flicking back up to meet his curious blue eyes. Maverick noticed your timidity and he smiled at you, releasing you gently from his grasp. You felt sad at the loss of contact from him, but you pushed the feeling aside, smiling back at Maverick. As much as you wanted to kiss the man in that very moment, you didn't want to be too forward.
"I hope you're hungry." Maverick suddenly said with a shy smile, and you quickly frowned, quite obviously confused at his words. Before you could ask what he meant, he lead you round the corner of the plane, your surprised eyes falling onto a candlelit dinner set up on a makeshift table.
"Oh my gosh," You gasped. He had placed a classic red and white gingham cloth atop the table and adorned it with white china plates; a simple, long and slender white candle sat lit in between the two dishes. Steam billowed up from the spaghetti that was neatly arranged in a spiral-like fashion with a piece of basil placed nimbly atop of the Italian staple food. "Oh, Mav, this is just..." You trailed off with a shaky voice, feeling a little emotional at the set up. Nobody had ever gone to these lengths before for a first date, and you were definitely feeling special. Turning your body toward him, you felt tears begin to bubble against your waterline. Maverick's once-smiling face fell at your sad one, and he rushed to you, his hand coming up to cup your cheek. A small smile instantly warmed your face as he touched you.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know-" He shook his head softly as he watched a tear spill from your glossy eyes. Oh god, he did too much.
"No, Mav, I love it. It's just- no one has ever done this for me before." You laughed through your tears, a weak grin growing on your lips. His sad look faded and he smiled at you, his large hands sliding from your now-tear-stained cheek to your hands, the soft pad of his thumbs caressing the back of your palms gently. "Thank you so much." You whispered, unable to meet his eyes. God, what a mess you were.
"You're welcome, Y/N, I just wanted our first date to be special... I was worried that you'd be disappointed." He admitted with a sheepish smile, leading you to the table. You shook your head at him, completely in shock that he thought such a thing. How could you be disappointed to go on a date with the 'Maverick'?
"You're joking, right, Mav?" A soft, incredulous laugh left your lips and he stared at you, obviously serious. "Well, first, I would never be disappointed to go on a date with you. If the date was to sit in a field and stare at each other, I'd be thrilled." You giggled at him. "And second, I'm honoured to have even been offered an opportunity like this." You teased him as you sat down opposite him, the soft, amber glow of the candle illuminating his smiling face. "Thirdly, how the hell did you set this up when you've been flying a plane with me?"
"A magician never reveals his secrets." He replied cryptically, unable to hide the smirk that was picking at the corners of his lips. You rolled your eyes at him with a bashful smile, your hand reaching forward to grasp the glass of wine that sat to the right of your plate of spaghetti.
"A pilot and a comedian, boy am I lucky." You joked, grinning as you took sip of the refreshing red vino; a satisfied hum leaving your pursed lips as you savoured the sweet taste. "Thank you again Mav, for all of this, it was a dream come true, honestly." You said with a soft voice, gazing at the man in question. He shook his head at your words.
"It's my pleasure, Y/N, I wanted to make you feel special." Maverick stared at you with a besotted smile.
"Well, you definitely did just that!" You laughed, feeling the tears return to your eyes.
i hope this was okay anon!! if not, i can re-work it to your wants :)
