they both retired last year and I think they’re having this kind of weird identity crisis where for the first time in like 30 years they’re actually venturing out into spaces that don’t involve their work bubbles and are dealing with some culture shock because most of their complaining can basically be boiled down to “people like, buy, and do things that i don’t like and nothing caters to people like me anymore”. 

i had to spend 10 minutes listening to my stepmom complain that nowhere in santa barbara sells doilies because people don’t use doilies anymore and apparently old people like her don’t matter and it’s everyone else’s fault because they’ve been manipulated by trends and there’s no demand anymore because they’re all trendy youngsters and ordering online is scary because people can steal your credit card and im just sitting there with a glazed expression wondering what kind of pokemon spawn at LAX because i ain’t got time for that kind of no-solution attitude
