Thoughts on @butchhartman‘s Drawback idea pool: Dimensional Hotel!
I grew up with his shows, and i’m SO EXCITED that he’s reaching out to the community.
Fan for life. :D
This is my submission for Butch Hartman's Drawback! It's Dimensional Hotel of course. I love cyclopses.
Dimensional Hotel idea
Dimensional hotel Where the gods and godesses of all the pantheons goes to relax. They might want to be pampered in the spa run by nymphs, selkies, "havsrå" and mermaids? Or enjoy themselves on the never-ending golf course made by Loki, Thoth and Hermes? Or take a stroll on the night sky and visit the star signs?
And who knows? Aren't modern comics a lot like ancient mythology? There might even be a super-hero or two.
The only way to get to the Dimensional Hotel is to think too hard. Not "think hard" in the usual manner, but to think even though your mind is boiling and screaming "no more!". If you think hard THEN, you end up in the Dimensional Hotel.
And all humans who do this? Well... Humans are made to be the servants of gods, right?
They are automatically given jobs such as servers, maids, butlers, chefs etc. when they arrive. All humans are given a hourglass displayed in the fouyer that shows how much time they have left until they are allowed to go home. If they please the gods/godesses this time can be reduced, if they anger them it grows.
Main character: Boy about 11 years old, works as a server in the hotel restaurant. Responsible and hard-working with a raging temper that explodes at inopportune times. Loves his sister and hopes to work until he can get home to their parents again.
Main character 2: Little sister that is seven. She is persuasive, charming and slightly diabolical. She loves her brother but HATES nothing more than to be bored, so she breaks the rules of the hotel constantly. Takes a trip through time in the Time-room, steals Zeus' thunderbolts in order to make a grilled cheese-sandwich.
Since the Boy is a responsible person he always follows his sister and together they get into all kinds of mischief, with the god (or godess)-of-the-week.
Turns out Deep Sea Embers has a sequel!
Or Dimensional Hotel has a prequel...
Either way, a whole new book to read! Woo!
My response for Butch Hartman’s creative challenge.
Here are my ideas for Dimensional Hotel
Idea#1 Dimensional Hotel is a separate dimension where creatures of other dimensions go and hang out. Earth is one of those dimensions
Idea#2: In this world Earth is the prime dimensions with three other dimensions being variations of it. A girl named Marissa stumbles upon Dimensional Hotel and discovers that it allows her to travel to different dimensions and meet three different versions of herself from other Earths. With Dimensional Hotel as their headquarters, they protect the multiverse from interdimensional threats.
Earth Prime: Just like our Earth, Marissa’s home dimension.
Marissa: An average preteen girl who is very practical and content with life. Yet despite her practical lifestyle, she is very imaginative and secretly yearns to go on an adventure.
Magical Dimension/Earth-2: A dimension where all the creatures from every mythology exists. The world is like a fairy tale/fantasy land but with all cultures instead of just European. There’s a princess for every human culture. Every human being is born with magic.
Earth-2 Marissa: A preteen magic user and a princess of her homeland. This version is more responsible, spiritual, and wise. She mostly relies on magic to solve her problems.
Utopian Dimension/Earth-3: A dimension where everything is futuristic and high-tech. The embodiment of everyone’s vison of a utopia. A somewhat perfect world. The inhabitants rely more on technology and less on physical skills.
Earth-3 Marissa: A preteen inventor who uses everything high-tech. She uses a a high-tech suit and a hover board. This version has a very high IQ that gets her high academics and create new inventions but lacks practical skills.
Dystopian Dimension/Earth-4: A dimension where everything is bad. It’s ruled by a overlord and there is a resistance group against him/her. Unlike the Utopian Dimension, the inhabitants in this dimension rely more on physical skills and instincts and less on technology.
Earth-4 Marissa: A preteen survivalist and a member of the resistance. She has knowledge of various forms of combat and is skilled with various forms of martial arts and weaponry. This version has a strong survival instinct that allows to have survival skills which makes her the second most practical. Her survivalist lifestyle results in her being very wary and untrustworthy of others, very paranoid about worst case scenarios and having a very cynical outlook on life.
Idea#3 Dimensional Hotel is the bridge between all dimensions.

Dimensional Hotel Idea
Jake and Erin are teenage best friends living in a small town. One day they decide to investigate the abandoned hotel at the edge of town, rumored to be haunted. What they find instead is a gateway to a new world. The friends discover an entrance to the Dimensional Hotel, a strange place full of stranger creatures where every door leads to another hotel in another dimension or world. Exploring the new worlds uncovers problems that the residents face, many of which our heroes find themselves helping with. But as the friends continue to explore all of the vast possibilities through the doors, they uncover a plot to use the Hotel’s power to take over all dimensions; including theirs.
