There was a reluctant sigh, a tinge of disappointment. If she were more honest with herself, Agent Usa would have never pursued Avery in the first place. But in the end, rules were rules. She had to report back as part of her duty as a member of the Kaiju council.

It was during this report back to the facility, though, when Kiyo had finally caught sight of Avery. The roommate hadn’t been back for quite some time, and because he wasn’t answering his phone, he ended up searching for him everywhere. But, to think he’d find him like this...

“..Avery...” A mixed look of horror, anger and fear quickly bubbled up inside him. He was quick to narrow down the possibilities of why Avery would wound up in this situation. If what he came down to was correct, then he needed to get him out of here. Fast. In an instant, he was at Avery’s side, removing the gag and frantically trying to pull him up and act as his crutch.

“Oh god, oh god they found you, didn’t they? Just---Just hold on, I’ll get you out of here, okay? God, your hands... What do I...? S-Stay calm, Kiyo, think... I-- I can’t just bring you to any hospital, huh? I-It might draw attention to your location... M-Maybe we can go to Aiko, or, uh...”

..Some time passed, and a phone call was finally reaching out to Avery’s phone. Val sat there next to the bed Kiyo was in, staring at the pale unconscious kid with a look of mild distress. Should the corporation delve further into this, he might just get exposed for faking his own death and end up getting permanently disposed of. Not to mention, Aiko will end up getting caught in the mess, too. A terrible chain reaction he’d liked to avoid, all things considered. 

..It may be best to get rid of this kid before he ends up getting Avery, Val and Aiko into serious trouble. Why did Val go out of his way to get him help in the first place, though...?

..The phone was finally answered. “Avery, I’m going to need you to come here quick. Your friend here had an unfortunate encounter with one of Kaiju’s council members. I’ll send you the address.”

“I couldn’t help myself. How did you get so tiny?”

“Well, I don’t know! I just woke up this way. Probably someone or another’s quirk. I was worried I was going to keep shrinking!”

Val simply stared down at this young man who was probably no more than three-to-four years younger than him. The organization must have really been picking up their speed in rebuilding from where they left off in those few years after their self-declared demolishment. He wasn’t sure if he should be envious or not with the drastic differences in his and this batch that came after his, but one thing’s for sure: an attitude like that wasn’t going to secure a long life in this one.

“I’m certain you know that it wasn’t your nail polish I was referring to. There’s a reason why they’ve assigned me to be your mentor and it’s to condition you back into retaining satisfactory quality as a product.” 

“I’m surprised they even allowed you to live this long free from being whipped into shape. Had you been born in the batch I was in, you would’ve been a dead child by the age of five.”
