World Building June Day 2: Geography

Dinead has a lot going for it, resource wise, but the northern continent is half glacial. Though the southern half is covered in mountains, forests, plains, and deserts.

World Building June Day 1: Introduction

Once again we’re going to try to keep up with building Dinead this year! 

So, Welcome to Dinead.

Dinead is an alien world that humans have been on for around a century. In this time they have only explored one continent, but hope to figure out how to reach out to the other one on the world. 

After a catastrophe, the world is in chaos, and while war was on the horizon, it seems that it is past the brink and no one in the world is safe from the wrath of the Suliss and their queens. Being ocean dwelling people, the Suliss are known throughout the world.

As the war spreads, humans, and the people of the first continent look to flee to the unexplored north, but it is full of people they have had little to no relations with and who have unfamiliar cultures and beliefs.

I had write to music for class so here’s a quick Kit drabble because Short Change Hero was what came on. It’s not edited so I’m probably missing words because I’ve been pretty bad about that today.

Kit watched the world below her move on without her. She didn’t know how much time had passed since she died. How long after that did it take her to wake up? And still more time passed her by while she fled everything and explored new impulses.

           She was a goddess now and she didn’t want to be. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that she and her chosen friends were supposed to replace the gods who had died years prior, but they didn’t ask her if she wanted to. Now, she was supposed to help save her people. She could see her Tsukva fighting with the Suliss for their very survival. It was an old battle –one she had tired of a long time ago.

           How could she be expected to save them when she couldn’t save Sakari? When she couldn’t save herself? There had been a breath of freedom when she acknowledged what she was – a goddess of darkness. The impulses she struggled with, the ones she had to squish down and shove into the dark corners of her soul, was being acknowledged and it was wonderful. She was the goddess of the morally gray Iaeto and Humans –the ones who can’t tell if they are doing good or bad.

           “Hey,” a masculine voice said, drawing her out of her thoughts. “You’re getting lost up there again.”

           Kit looked at her husband and smiled. Where she was dripping with the darkness that fell down from her wings and hair, he was light and his eyes shone inhumanly bright. “I wouldn’t have stayed there long.”

           “I know,” he said. “You just looked sad.”

           “I’m not,” Kit shook her head. “Just thinking about if I can be a hero.”

World Building June Day 11

Fauna (All art by @on-raven-wings.)

Nathoila: Lives in the water near land. It’s crocodile in its nature. It is eel like in its body, its back is a large fin and it has two short front legs. Its nose is on top of its eel-like head. Carnivorous.

Izurdu: A bird that looks like a show pidgeon, and it’s the equivalent to a seagull.

Ikat: Cheetah with sabertooth fangs.

Kodeta: Goats with two sets of horns. One is spiraly and the other is curved.

Etrani: It has a rabbit head, body and legs. Scales cover the back, everywhere else is fur. It has a scorpion tail.

Koruka: A pet. It looks like a whiptail lizard with crests on the back and head. It has wings and is brightly colored. It’s about the size of a cat.

Semiri: Is a sea dragon the size of a pony.

 Titeria: A pet that has legs like a maned wolf, but looks like a sand cat.

Tanyr: Elk with fangs.

Tarili: Like a Scottish Highland cattle with ram horns. Their fur is a pastel mossy green with white stripes. Their eyes are a pastel mint green and pastel charcoal hooves/horns/nuzzle/skin.

Delos: A herding dog of sorts. Looks like a dog with four ears and cat-like eyes. Green colors in the plains and white/pale colors in the north. Piebald patterns.

Kolaks: Used for riding. Reindeer body with bear paws and horse feathering. Fur is different shades of blue. Arctic fox color pattern with a blaze.

Iret: Caracal and Serval mix. Caracal base with Serval pattern. (Dare’Si) Pink color with black spots and amber eyes.

Vorskel: Squirrel body with Fennec Fox ears. Tri-Colored squirrel pattern with (Et-Sul) maroon, navy, and black.

Anuri: Hound-like body, caracal ear length, wings, pangolin scaled backs, and bright coloring.

WBJ Day 10

Language

Doing all the races because we didn’t have this last year

Iaeto:

Alphabet -

They have an abundance of prefixes. Their sound structure goes stressed stressed unstressed. Their rational nouns are limited to living, sentient people and their gods. Their irrational nouns consist of everything else. They use honorifics which include Mr., Mrs., friend, younger in age, a boss/leader, and if they are older in age. Their verbs have no tense.

There are varying dialects within Iaeto culture, since they are tribal. Some have evolved differently, like the Northern Iaeto as opposed to the Plains Iaeto. The Plains Iaeto have wider vocabulary and a heavy influence of English.

Suliss:

Tsukva:

There are three main mountain ranges that the Tsukva live on. Each of them have the same language, however they do vary in dialects. The -v in the language is silent now, although the northern Tsukva still pronounce it.

Doir:

This one’s sad. We only have their alphabet down, which is based on English. The top is used by women, the bottom is used by men. It’s supposed to be an easy language because they trade with a lot different peoples, and so have adapted to language barriers.

Ysaye:

We’ve only got the sounds for the Ysaye, which is a tonal language that we tweaked.

Sozkin:

Again, we don’t have the written language yet, but those are the sounds. It’s simple because there is a sign language that they use in unison with their vocal speech.

The Reyshin and Nilal don’t have languages yet. We have our hands full and theirs isn’t quite needed to be worked on yet.

Religion and Cosmology

Ysaye: Their gods are all therianthropic, similar to the Egyptian gods. To see what they look like, we put in the animal descriptions first.

Deity: Shyr

Reyshin: Have a single, primal god, similar to early greek primordial deities and Chaos. It does not have a name, they call it Kas which is ‘It’ in their language.

Sozkin: Don’t really have deities, but are a highly honor based society. They are more worried about the world they live on and how they are viewed than some higher power. They also believe in a constant cycle of reincarnation, and how honorable you were in one life will determine your place in your next. It is impossible to break from it.

Nilal: A Karma-like deity. Those who do well are rewarded, those who do bad are punished. Doir: A god of balance who is in opposition to a chaos god . They also keep ties to their ancestors and honor them, often times they go through shamans to honor their ancestors.

Civilization & Architecture

Reyshin: Totems are set outside the houses

Ysaye: Their homes look like this except it’s covered with leather rather than grasses.

Nilal:

Doir: The walls are draped with blankets to help keep the warmth in.

Sozkin: They have the gatehouses from these-

And the designs/shape of these -

And then there’s openings to each floor cut into the pyramid, the have roofs/awnings similar to this-

And there’s also the geometrical shapes for decoration
