Balthasar Anton Dunker (Swiss, 1746-1807), Study of a Tree, pencil on paper, 23 x 16.5 cm.
is anyone down to buy me a drink??
Our cat, Dinker (he came to us with that name, btw), is definitely a creature of habit. He definitely has his rituals. And it also just as definitely frustrates him when the universe does not bend to his expectations.
I'd call it a cat thing... but I think we all know people like this, too. 😉
He knows, for example, when we're leaving on a trip. I suppose all the bags give it away, all the packing leading up to the day.
He's not a fan, let's just say
So when the moment comes for us to head out the door on the morning, he is literally nowhere to be found. Oh sure, we can find him. But he's usually underneath something where we can't get to him easily. And, of course, his point is
Leave me alone.
Even when we just wanna wish him a cuddly goodbye, he simply objects to the whole thing. So.
Leave me alone.
Which we do.
Of course (and thankfully), he's delighted to have us back. But I take that more as staff returning after vacation and you've had to handle everything yourself. I think he's delighted that things are as they ought to be.
Now, when one of us is gone, he doesn't act as severely. He does take up all the places one or the other us usually occupies. My side of the bed, for example. Or Kimmer's side of the bed.
He's also quite tuned into the sound of our voices. Even when those voices are coming out of a phone. He takes notice. Then has a few things to say.
Earlier this morning I was talking with Kimmer on the speaker and, upon hearing her voice, Dinker took up residence right next to my phone and started doing his version of talking to it. Sometimes he would stand right above it, looking down at the phone, and say a few things.
And that's our cat. I figure that's just him complaining. Like, Where are you?
But it's sweet, nevertheless.
😊
