can you please show us a picture of the 6ft dinosaur??? I'm so curious
Haha well no I don't want to share actual pictures because it's in front of my house and that feels weird to put on Tumblr but I can elaborate.
In maybe 2018 I found some of these puzzles at a yard sale and thought...I could make my own but....enormous!
Wait....
It actually started before that. I was driving somewhere in Massachusetts and I drove by this lovely house with beautiful life size fiberglass dino statues out front and thought...I want to know those people. I want to be those people. Why had it never occurred to me to buy a historic home and stick a dino in the front yard?
Well, it turns out, that was some kind of museum but the seed of desire was planted.
I spent some time researching how to diy fiberglass statues, but that seemed like a pain in the ass. I also looked into how long-term durable for outside weather you could make paper mache. I was disatisfied with that option.
Okay, enter: cheap wooden puzzle epiphany.
So I looked around and found this pattern:
Build a 6'-0" Tall Wooden T-Rex Model: I'm sure we've all seen those small wooden 3D dinosaur models. I had a few that I loved as a kid, but
When I set my mind to something I can be a bit relentless so the next thing that I did was stop by a construction site up the street and ask if they had any plywood I could have, and I dragged all the scrap plywood home and then bought a super cheap jigsaw and spent a few weekends tracing patterns onto plywood and cutting it out over a lawn chair in the backyard.
My initial idea was to have it up just for Halloween and put it away for the rest of the winter, but instead I put a Santa hat on it, and then I made it a light up Valentine's Day heart and then a St. Patrick's Day costume. Etc.
Eight years later, my girl T-Rex is looking a bit decrepit. But you know what? That's okay. Because girls can be anything. Even decrepit
