Daily Ray Fact:
The Fiddler Ray and their relatives are thought to be the oldest ray group, which explains why they are somewhere between a shark and a ray. It is understood that rays evolved from sharks and so really the Fiddler Ray is a visual demonstration of that change in biology, The earliest known fossil rays are only 150 million years ago and whilst there are very few well preserved fossils available there are whole bodies of ancient guitarfishes which very closely resemble that of modern day Fiddler Rays.
got the random urge to look at my jurassic universe au and began thinking about the distortus rex
this isn't canon to my au, but i made it as if it were
this wretched thing has so many health issues like limbs and organs from an adsorbed twin, random nonsense from frog and chicken, asymmetrical, relatively brittle bones that are always on the verge of breakage, and a malformed digestive system that causes gaseous bloating <3
this thing lives in constant pain and suffering
So I'm on a spree of learning about prehistoric animals and here's one I learned of that I just- you have to see this shit for yourself
Is this not the cutest little guy you've ever seen in your life? I felt it would be a crime if I didn't share it.
It's called the Sacabambaspis(a very, VERY fun word to say), and it lived in the Ordovician period before jaws were an evolved thing. Being that it lacks fins, it apparently bumbled around clumsily which is like, the funniest mental image.
This thing is like a clumsy balloon with a face that looks like a 4 year old drew it and I absolutely love it.
Just thought I'd share my personal discovery lol, I absolutely love learning about prehistoric animals and just animals in general, it's one of my favorite pastimes.
Triumphant steed of leather and speed.
