Hey. I hope everyone has been okay. I’m sorry i haven’t really been around. I feared something like this would happen. Learning Animation has really taken a lot of time away from being able to check out tumblr honestly. I haven’t even had time to look at the comics/fics i used too read. Blackrazorbill and a lot of other animators can back me up. This stuff takes a lot of time. My goals has not changed. I still want underline animated after all this time and that’s why i’m gone so much. So i can improve on what i don’t know and give you all the best show I possibly can. Anyways onto the gif. This is a first attempt of a charecter turnaround. NO design just a general attempt. I admit this is a slight trace/my own effort. So i don’t really think i can claim this as a genuine effort but i’m proud of it anyways. I fully understand what timing and spacing is and even how to read a time chart. Which are some critical things for movement/animation in general. This is a long journey but i will see it to the end. even if i don’t do the two arcs i wanted. I will at least do Golden flowers. although i still wanna see Asriel animated as i’m sure you all do as well. Anyways that’s all i got for now. Maybe im over thinking things but asriel's "lets settle this once and for all" and tobys tweet saying he feels things are unsettled. Is meant to counter asriel's line. Think it was another subtle hint?

I Think We Need to be Very Careful

We haven’t had any new meta for months now, since the Oatmeal FAQ, and it’s been over a year since any SUBSTANTIAL new meta. All we have that is new is tweets and questionably canon merch. 

Toby has made stretches and hints based on seeing throwaway tweets and messages before. But, here’s the thing, he’s also said a LOT of stuff that’s ended up meaning nothing.

Shit after shitpost. Nonsensical fun. Teasing of his friends. He’s said messages about the game that are just straightforward and series and are exactly what they look like.

My point . . . Right. 

It may turn out to mean something, but it probably wasn’t intended that way. Toby, I do believe, does plan ahead, does model stuff on ahead of time, but I feel like this is where we start to tread on dangerous ground. It’s very uncertain, and relies a great deal on the use of a single word in vaguely similar context in very different circumstances. 

As far as evidence for any further updates or expansions onto the world of Undertale, I think that’s weak. 

I understand the desire to find new evidence, to search Undertale and tease out just one more secret, one more little nugget of meta data. But we have a lot of the good stuff, now. I think your instincts here are right, and that you are reading a bit too much into this.

This makes me want to make a little post on what some strong dangling plot hooks in Undertale are, actually . . .

@dinowulf is an amazing guy working really hard on an animation of underline. I’ve been following him for a while now and his progress has been through the roof and really inspiring. I can’t wait to see what he bring us next.

Hey sage id like to know who is top 3 fav charecters from undertale?

this question always makes me feel SO GUILTY bc papyrus isn’t in the top 3. he and undyne tie for #4! i’m sorry, i’m sorry!! ok here we go:

sans. SANS IS THE COOLEST. he breaks the 4th wall and doesn’t afraid of anything!!! yes, yes, his battle is the most badass, coolest thing, but actually when i decided sans was my favorite was when he asked papyrus if he wanted to look at the conveniently shaped lamp. he was messing with his brother, the human, AND US all at the SAME TIME simply for his own entertainment. i should have known then i would be drawing that stupid skeleton for the rest of time. additionally, how neat is it to think of someone who KNOWS he is living the same timeline for the 1000th time, but can’t actually remember them? what would YOU do if you knew, without a shadow of a doubt, the timeline you were on was all temporary, and you would forget everything you were doing at this moment and had done for awhile, as if it never happened at all? it’s fascinating.

flowey. for the sheer virtue of how different he is from asriel, how fascinating it is - when someone whose main personality trait is love and compassion, gets those traits taken away and can’t feel...what does he do? what does he become? it’s an incredible character study. but furthermore, flowey ALSO breaks the 4th wall quite a bit, he is unexpected in so many ways, which is honestly a delight. not only that, but he can be quite terrifying when he wants to be. 4th wall breaking, unexpected depth/surprises, fascinating character traits - he and sans actually have these in common. they’re my two favs, and furthermore, it gives me life how much they hate eachother. :’)

toriel. GOATMOM IS THE BEST!! unlike with sans and flowey i have a bit of trouble articulating why i love her so much - i just find her character so enjoyable to see in fanworks and in the game itself. plus, toby has said a bunch of times when she’s not around kids she’d like, say the f-word and stuff. i kind of like that hidden side of her. the part of her that jokes with sans through the door without exchanging names, the part of her that organizes the underground and takes no shit both before her kids died and after. she ran away when she was grieving but stepped up when she was needed. she has a huge strength of character, but is also allowed to hurt and be imperfect (don’t like her being portrayed as perfect, running away from your duties as queen when your kingdom is full of despair is Pretty Uncool). she doesn’t break the 4th wall, and she isn’t as flashy of a badass, but she still has that richly developed history and character and has SO much depth to explore.

Speaking of save. The "save" mechanic towards monster has not really been touched on during the game. Do you think that could be a new mechanic in the next game? I just find it weird that its introduced in the last fight.

Well, I don’t find it quite so weird. It seems like a super cool throwback to the way that some of the mother games handled things like this. Let me give you examples . . .

In mother 1, there was a special option, called ‘sing.’ It was largely non-useful over most of the game. You couldn’t do much with it. However, over the course of the game, you collected the notes of an old lullaby, and defeated the Big Bad by singing one of his childhood lullabies to him and touching his heart.

In Mother 2, Paula’s ‘pray’ action normally has a totally random effect. You can resurrect all your party members, or kill them all, or make them cry, or do great damage to the enemy. But in the final boss fight with Giygas, she prays, and the whole of the world prays with her, for the defeat of Giygas, and, touched by the hearts and love and hopes of so many people, the love that had lain dormant in Giygas awoken and caused him to disperse into nothing.

SAVE reminds me of those special options, used for different things, given new context during the last battle. I doubt it will be touched on again in a battle context.
