Joined @starweaverblog 's dtiys with Ariadne and Dionysus
Gift art depicting Dionysus and Ariadne from @margaretkart's new Regency romance/Greek myth retelling set on Corfu in 1827, Το αμπέλι της θάλασσας (The Vine of the Sea)-- which might be getting an English translation soon! I'll be very excited to read it when it comes out.
Also this counts as more art for #classicstober2025!
They dream of the days they are strangled by a tangled thread. Silent pleas unheard at sea. Lost in the dark wine waves that no one braves. Yet the string of fate intertwines them to their eternal mate.
They live through the lives blessed by the fest and put at rest. Laughter and smiles echoed through ceaseless miles. Found in the light grass fields that yields what divine immortals above call it love.
I wanted to try out @starweaverblog's dtiy challenge.
What if Etruscan mirrors were polychrome?
Etruscan bronze mirror, ca. 350-325 BC. Found in Chiusi Sienna. British Museum:
Areatha (Ariadne), Fufluns (Dionysos), Semla (Semele), while and a satyr named Sime
To give a quick explanation, @ulises-aithon has identified the flowers as belonging to the Arum genus, and I have depicted them as such. The bottom one is a lotus. Blue for sky. As for the colours of the clothing, the cloak is a burgundy red symbolising wine. I loved how it was depicted in this uninterrupted way (from Ariadne to Semele) it looks incredibly poetic. Ariadne’s orange tones are simply because I love orange for brides (it doesn’t have to be at their wedding, but I love weddings). The jewellery is made of gold, silver and pearls, and the lyre is made of tortoiseshell and horns. The rest of the mirror is, of course, bronze.
Yes Ariadne sleeps in the t-rex hand position trust the vision 🙂↕️
Dionysus view everyday btw
They are always judging 🧐 (affectionate)
