Dioxin Dump Games, LLC announced its existence this week with its first product, an OSR compatible adventure module called Escape from Groncho’s Lair. The company, whose tagline is “We Produce Hazardous Wastes”, will produce adventure modules, settings and supplements for Dungeon Crawl Classic RPG, Labyrinth Lord and other OSR products, with an eye towards the bizarre, the unexpected and the mechanically interesting, in addition to complete game systems and eventually short fiction.
“As a kiddo I always wanted to be a writer,” said founder and lead developer Stuart Keating. “And I love tabletop gaming because it combines meaningful social interaction with collaborative storytelling.” Keating said the company would produce materials that strayed significantly from standard fantasy gaming and mechanics. “We enjoy media because it rewards our expectations. Our goal is to produce things that reward expectations that players didn’t even know they had—sort of like the first time you listened to an early Black Sabbath album and you were all ‘oh. Of course the song would go that direction. That makes perfect sense’”
Dioxin Dump’s first adventure is available under a “pay what you want” scheme at RPGnow and Drive Thru RPG. The company expects to release two more adventure modules in the next month, one introductory adventure designed to appeal to new and non-traditional gamers, the other a mid-level adventure that explores the concept and nature of time while introducing significant and unique campaign elements.
“Players and referees alike will have a blast with these adventures” said Keating. “We’re really excited about the future—we’re in the final playtesting stages of a game inspired by ‘rogue cop’ films of the 70s and 80s, and we hope to launch it on Kickstarter in September. It’s a ridiculous amount of fun.”
