It had been an innocent photo shoot. Black leather to match the holiday. Gabriel had always hated Halloween. Now he sat with his head in his hands, staring at the proofs of his son, smiling slyly at the camera.
“It can’t be…” His words were nothing more than a breath as he reached for the drawer. A black pen rose before striking the paper. Years of designing had made drawing quite simple. Gabriel added a mask and cat ears. The little remaining color in his face disappeared. “It can’t be…” He repeated.
The man moved down the long hallway, shoes making no noise on the rugs, his shadow ominous against the white walls. He could feel his heart pounding in the thin chest as the door to his son’s room slowly opened. The light illuminated the figure under the blankets. The blonde boy was sprawled out over the blankets and there on his chest, a small black cat. Neither of them stirred as Gabriel approached. He studied his son for a moment. He looked content, safe in his sleep.
The man sighed and closed his eyes before he reached over and pulled the ring from Adrien’s hand. The small cat woke up before disappearing as Gabriel’s fingers wrapped around the metal and he walked quickly from the room.
It had to be done.
Adrien woke the next morning with an empty feeling. “Plagg?” He rubbed his eyes and looked around with a yawn. “Plagg where are you? If you’ve gotten into the Camembert stash again I swear…” He pulled off the blankets, pushing himself to his feet. A frown pulled at the corners of his mouth as he reached down to rub the ring.
Terror streaks down his spine. Immediately he began to search his room, tearing things off the shelves until it was all in a pile on the floor. It wasn’t there! Why wasn’t it there? His chest tightened and it became hard to breath. No… No he had failed Ladybug. He had failed Plagg. He had failed Paris.
The buzzing of his phone pulled him from the storms of his mind. It was Nino? Why was Nino texting him this early? What he read made his heart stop.
Hawkmoth and Ladybug are having a showdown in front of the Eiffel Tower. You have to get down here dude!
Adrien grabbed the closest articles of clothing, pulling them roughly onto his body before racing downstairs, shirt on backwards. Nathalie stood in front of the door, eyes narrowed as she held out a hand.
“Nathalie I have to go! Ladybug is at the—“
“I do not care what is happening. You are the head model of the Agreste Company and you have a reputation to uphold. Whenever you step outside, you are representing your father and I will not have you going outside looking like that.”
A whine escaped the teenager and he bounced on the spot, hands curled into fists. “But Nathalie!”
“NO BUTS! Turn around and make yourself presentable.” She snapped, pointing toward his room.
He groaned, eyes rolling before he sprinted back to his room. A brush was pulled through his hair, makeup rubbed on his blemishes, and he fixed his outfit before racing back down to the assistant. “Now can I go?!” His tone must have sounded as desperate as it felt because Nathalie’s brow furrowed in concern as she stepped out of the way.
Hawkmoth was taunting an injured Ladybug, laughing with a hoard of butterflies in a large purple storm behind him. “No…” Adrien breathed as Hawkmoth went to attack again. He pushed through the crowd, throwing himself in front of the attack. A cry of pain left him as he felt the cane bruise his shoulder.
“A-Adrien?” Ladybug panted as she looked up at him. “You need to get out of the way.”
“I’m not leaving you alone, my lady.” He turned and smiled at her, trying not to wince. His heart melted as her eyes widened and… was that a blush on her cheeks?
“Get out of the way!” The commanding tone made him turn. Hawkmoth was glaring at him. There was the ring, glittering around his neck.
“No! I won’t let you hurt her!” Adrien fired back. Why wasn’t Hawkmoth attacking anymore? The man looked hesitant. “If you want her you will have to go through me!” But the man didn’t attack again. He watched as the villain’s grip tightened on his cane. In the next second, a hundred butterflies rushed forward. They surrounded Adrien and lifted him off the ground, carrying him away from the heroine of Paris.
“No!” Adrien found himself only able to watch as Hawkmoth walked forward. Ladybug struggled to her feet only to be thrown to the ground again, rolling a few times.
Adrien struggled in the cocoon of butterflies, eventually breaking through and falling to the ground. He cried out in pain again as he felt his ankle turn. But he couldn’t stop now. Hawkmoth’s cane had somehow turned into a sword. He seemed angrier than before. It wasn’t until Adrien got closer that he realized why. When Hawkmoth had thrown Ladybug away, she had stolen the ring.
“That’s my Ladybug.” He whispered before jumping in front of her once again. There was a sharp pain and then everything felt numb. Two voices yelled “No!” at the same time before Adrien collapsed. Then he was in Ladybug’s arms. Her tears hit his cheeks as he struggled to stay awake.
“Hey…” He breathed. “It’s okay. I’ll be fine.” He lied to her, wiping her tears away. “Stay brave.” As his eyes closed, he heard Hawkmoth scream again. There was a flash of green and red before Adrien faded away.

Big mood. It reminds me of the time I tried to pick up my laptop but used too much force and also didn’t hold tight enough to it and basically threw it across the room
one time i accidentally threw scissors across the room at my brother's face because i didn't hold them well. good thing my aim is shit and they missed by a mile
