Hal thinks D is a pretty neat dude. He enjoys joking around with him and he just gives off that “dorky big bro” vibe y’know. When Hal’s with him its like he doesn’t really have to worry about keeping up his facade of politeness. There’s no inherent need to be as formal and “stick up the ass” as he usually is. Arguably, he’s still a rude fuck but he does it in a loving way. Kinda. Not really. Hal is just rude in general ok. It’s just with D he doesn’t feel the need to coat the rudeness in sugar. Which is a good thing because that means he doesn’t feel the need to throw passive aggressive insults at D. It’s only friendly bantering.

While he isn’t comfortable enough around him to actually go spilling his feelings and showing “weakness” there is a fair amount of trust. He would trust D with, perhaps, his bank account but not his insecurities. He doesn’t really look up to D or idolize him that much and he probably treats him with a lot less respect than he should. In his eyes D isn’t really some who is that much above him like “ok so what he’s a hot shot movie director he uses dumb emojis when he texts and that is unacceptable.” To him D is just another person. Another super dorky and mildly lame-but-not-in-a-bad-way person.
