“Sweater”
I feel like this sweater most of the time this year...
It's wet out
And it's raining on me But I let myself get wet Before I put up one Of the two brollies I have with me And before I que up at the bank I notice the plump red lipsticked lips On that market girl The one that looks both Harder than me AND cuter than me On cold damp September days I long for curvy girls With long hair To sit next to me On the train and remind me that I'm alive That's it's OK to want the warmth I long for And chocolate women Eat chocolate and the lines blur Aren't we all eating ourselves Turning in on ourselves Death by degrees after 21 I was dying by degrees Since i was 12 I never wanted to grow up Longing for infancy Mama Papa So now be careful what you wish for As i live at home Suckered back to the teet So today i brought a 6 pack of prawn cocktail sandwiches Because they were cheap And they don't taste like prawns Just Marie rose sauce over potato And reminds me of being twenty and on top Of a bus because it was cheaper And I had the time to spare Last night I dreamed I was a spy Last night we were on the run We hid from our pursuers In a wedding cake shop And you held your breath Then I said "Let's get married"
The dream ended And my first waking act was to Spill that drink I never finished From last night And I remember I left the cloth I scrubbed the carpet with tucked in my dressing Gown pocket And I wanted a poignant end for the poem to But all I got was a forgotten Damp dirty rag that I put my hand into the next morning
