There's only one person in the universe that gets it.
“Okay,” Korrah says. “Would you believe me if -”
“No,” Rosie interrupts, already smiling at his antics, “But continue.”
“- I told you that I was being mesmerized by vampires to lure you back to their lair, because you have amazing plasma?”
Rosie laughs. “I might, if vampires even existed in this save.”
“Oh, you’d think they existed if -”
“Kor, c’mon. I think I know what all this is about.”
Korrah’s thoughts screech to a halt. Rosie knows. How? Kip must have told her. But Kip swore to secrecy.
“Cerise put you up to this, didn’t she?”
“What? No.” For the first time since she walked in, Korrah’s head feels clear.
“Oh.” Rosie frowns. “I figured she had, because she wanted to spend time with Kip but also wanted me to get over myself.”
“Wait.” Korrah can practically hear the gears ticking in his head. “You thought Cerise was trying to spend time alone with Kip?”
“Uh, yeah?” Rosie’s eyebrow arches. “Poor girl has it bad.”
Korrah can’t help but laugh.
“What?” Rosie pokes him, only coaxing more giggles and a few swats to her hands. “What’s so funny?”
“Just...Cerise didn’t set me up for this, Kip did!” While Rosie laughs, he adds, “Well, kind of. It was kind of my idea in the first place.”
“Really? You playing matchmaker?”
Korrah takes a deep breath. C’mon, don’t joke, don’t back down, you’ve got this. He meets her kind gaze, and at least a little bit of fear ekes its way out of his system.
“Well, kind of. But not only with Cerise and Kip.”
Rosie smiles sweetly. Then she lunges at him, tickling his sides.
“Rosie! What the hell!” Korrah manages to say through his giggles.
“Well, that’s what you get for trying to make this like every other hangout we’ve had!” She backs off enough for him to sit up. “I’m glad it wasn’t just a ploy to get me out of the house so Cerise and Kip could sneak around.”
The silliest grin cracks across Korrah’s face, but he can’t think of a single good reason to wipe it away. “You think that wouldn’t be the first thing out of my mouth if it was the reason you were here?”
Rosie leans her head against his shoulder. “If it wasn’t obvious, I like you.”
“You’re braver than I am,” Korrah mumbles. His head feels like it’s floating way up in the clouds. “I like you, too.”
