Yellowstone's tectonic region is spreading westward.
What this means for future tectonic activity in the US is uncertain.
How far could the activity spread is unclear, and we don't know if this is permanent or temporary.
It has been slowly spreading in this direction for an uncertain length of time.
You see, it's technically been moving that way for millions of years, however it's accelerating in an irregular pattern.
you could say it's been moving since millions of years, since thousands, since decades, over the last year, or today, since each of those times show a sudden increase.
some increases settled back down, especially the most recent, but some became consistent since, like the oldest changes.
Yellowstone is overdue for a permanent change, so maybe the recent change, even if most of it is the last few days and/or hours, will make a sudden and permanent gradual increase, after the big push slides back.
think of it like a tsunami, followed by sea levels rising.
one change is dramatic but temporary, but it leaves a more problematic system permanently after.
this appears to be what's happening.
in terms of tectonic activity, we're still waiting for the waves from the tsunami to return to a rhythm.
we know there's been a permanent change, but we can't measure it yet, not until the flood waters recede.
Idaho and Utah will experience increased tectonic activity in future, mostly the near future, but then gradually increasing over the years.
how much is still unknown.
it might be so little it's not even noticed, or it could mean that future earthquakes will get worse.
more study and time will reveal more answers, but the greatest danger until we get more results, is likely to be closer to now than later.
prepare for the worst for the next few days to a week, from the date of the post (April 15th 2026). after that you can breathe easy unless warned via official channels.
