what is ship chemistry? replies from this post (feel free to reply cuz i’m still curious about your answers)
@huntershowl said: for me, it means that when the characters interact, there’s a certain tension or draw/magnetism that i can feel in their conversations – like something about the other character pulls them in over and over again. sometimes it feels as if there’s a spark like that, particularly a romantic one, and sometimes there isn’t, but yea that’s the way i vibe it out!
i feel like a lot of people define it the way you do! and i do see merit to it. i feel like in theory that’s the way it should go, finding connection through the interaction, a hint that something interesting could come out of it. it works best for people with the discipline to really write though or at least for characters that demand that sort of thing (i know from what i read that hellhound is a difficult oc to ship with so it makes sense and i agree not all characters can just jump into a ship)
@tribeof said: i honestly don’t know what that phase even means anymore bc i’ve had so many ships where if you look at it on paper or at the beginnings stages of threads then chemistry is null. i just tell folks these days that my muses is trying to see what’s up 🤷🏽♀️😂
@themercifulmother said: i boil it down to, ‘they’re clicking. we have writing compabitlity, we’re plotting very well, they have a good dynamic, my muse SEEMS like they would genuinely be into yours-’ its ship chemistry!
honestly i feel like nowadays i’m a mix of you two 💀 like ive... i can tell whether i’d enjoy shipping with someone based on the way we interact ooc and i feel like that rapport translates very well onto the characters, and with the characters themselves i can often guess whether a ship would be viable even from the start. not for shallow reasons -- just because i sit down and read everything i can about the character and ask questions and based on that i can draw my conclusions about whether they’d get along with my character. like based on that i can at least know for sure whether my muse would be interested, and get an idea on whether it’d be mutual. and then i just try to see what’s up :/
@starrdew said: it’s so funny bc i feel like ppl say that in order to side step saying what sounds harsh which is ‘if ur oc’s and ur personalities don’t mesh with me, i’m not drawn to shipping with you.’ to me, there has to be mutual interest and comfort. when those factors are present, it rly shows in the writing which can read as attraction/chemistry
it comes down to that i think... like i can ship with someone i don’t got a good vibe going with, but i’m not gonna enjoy it very much. and so i’ve definitely shielded myself in the “i don’t see the chemistry” excuse before lmao. so for me... i need to like your personality as well as your oc’s, we need to get along, otherwise it’s not gonna work. because i need to know whether you will respect my oc and the work i put into it and will not just use it as a vehicle for feels and your muse’s development -- and that is the best way to know. it’s the respect and friendship what really makes me eager to ship with someone.
