how did you react to Rufus meeting with the other shinra execs questioning why didn't they try to stop his father when he was planning to destroy their own reactor not to mention dropping the plate. also what do you think of what he said about his father beforehand

Reeve says a little more about neo-Midgar and the Promised Land; Rufus dismisses his dad as old, and the he says this:

Rufus: But while we're on the subject, there's something I've been meaning to ask all of you regarding those decisions.

So the destruction of Sector 7 is absolutely a part of what he's questioning.

As for calling his father old and rash... it's hard for me to judge sincerity vs. something that sounds nice to tell his employees. It's a very diplomatic answer, that he immediately diverts attention away from with a question of his own. Rufus does this a lot. Even though he comes across as direct, he's often diverting attention from something else (his role in AC is a great example of this XD). It's also an inherent part of his fighting style—he uses a lot of sleight of hand tricks in Remake.

I digress. My point is: even if Rufus does think his dad was old and senile, it's also more complicated than that. I mean, it's canon that Senior mocks him as a 5-year-old for a good idea that ends up saving Rufus's life. They never had a great relationship.

I think the most galling thing about the Watch TV series is that it's so obviously just designed to look cool. Hence no Nobby or Colon, because they don't think you can make fat or ugly characters cool. Hence Sybil being played by a thin actress who's considerably younger than Sybil's meant to be, because they don't think fat middle-aged women are cool. Hence Cheery/Cheri not having a beard, because they think hairy women aren't cool. It feels utterly antithetical to what Terry's books were about.

This is interesting actually: did ya boi terry pratchett ever write any Traditionally Cool ™ characters for Discworld? I’m not talking about folks we know are actually cool, I’m talking about primetime-ready characters.

The only one I can think of is Victor Tugalbend, who was deliberately created to be Cool ™ specifically for the joke. Maybe Trevor Likely if you squint.

I propose that Susan Sto Helit might be cool, she's Death's Grandaughter, she has a Mysterious Facial Scar that's only visible when she's angry, a dramatic Anime Hair Streak, she's a Duchess, and she's Goth Miss Frizzle. Also she has a signature weapon- The Poker. In fact, Susan spends a lot of time desperately trying to be Less Cool so she doesn't have to go be a goddamn anime hero.

That whole The Watch is a punk rock thriller thing in the press release is a poor description in itself. Sounds like someone tried describing Discworld to Hollywood execs.
