Michael Carini
In 2007-2008 I did a collection of around 20 or so paintings for a series call "Look Right Through Me" and the series statement simply reads..."Read between the lines." What appear to be simple abstract bands of reverberating color...I call them "chords" and "dischords"...are actually the bars of a beautiful prison. Within each painting is a carefully masked invisible figure. I kid you not. I masked and built up the figure with transparent layers in each painting. This obviously doesn't translate well in the photographing of the work, and that was part of the intent. Most won't see this figure trapped behind the bars of their own person prison...only those that are willing to get closer and take a deeper look. For much of my life I've felt invisible and trapped in my own personal prison...and this collection of works is the documentary of that incarceration.
Pictured below is "The Recognition Of Nakedness" and it was once Deanne's painting. It ended up back in my possession and now has a new home where it is safe. If you look at the second photo, I have put the figure under a spotlight for you to see.
