Ok I've lost this post but the 8 ball was a situation they were lucky to get out of and how they got out/who helped them? I think?

Probably this is about Lynch's Elysian iteration and to be honest I don't have the worldbuilding down pat at all so I haven't hammered out the nitty gritty backstory details. Frankly I don't even know if submarines exist in Elysium and for all I know Vesper could be landlocked. In which case he was extremely lucky to steal a Vespertine military sub, because that is physically impossible.

But assuming Vespertine military subs do exist and Vesper has coastal access, he was undoubtedly extremely lucky to get out of that particular heist intact. I don't think he was alone, so whatever trusted conspirators he had would have helped him, and that may or may not be his current crew. It's 2 or 3 other guys, which I think is understaffed for the size of vessel it is, but it's enough to get by without guarantee of death. That said, unsanctioned pale travel is inherently risky, so it's always a possibility. It is possible he has lost and replaced a crew member or two along the way.
