There's a big problem these days with the fact that certain issues need to be discussed and the absolute wrong people are discussing them. So by the time rational, non-grifting, non-hateful, non-phobic people get to the topic, the opposite types are swarmed around it like a group of el*n m*sk carrion birds. And all arguments on the topic seem bad faith because the topic is now tainted.

I don't know who needs to hear this but difference in opinion is not necessarily an attack. Similarly, someone expressing a difference in opinion isn't necessarily an attack on YOU PERSONALLY.

There are, of course, occasions where this is true. But honestly? Not always and I'd even venture to say not a lot of the time.

This need for everyone to agree 100% with all of the opinions one holds dear and anyone that doesn't agree 100% with those opinions is to be branded the enemy is exactly why the world is the way it is now.

Online algorithms are geared towards confirmation bias because that bias gets you to engage. And the easiest engagement is one of enjoyment or anger. Something something a satisfied customer will tell 1 person about their experience but an unsatisfied one will tell 10.

Something to think about, at the very least.
