I don’t have a problem with people learning about facts, like Yea, a bunch of newer people are coming from dsmp and what not, of course they don’t always know facts only mentioned in streams or old videos. My problem is that they’re acting really weird about it… they’re adults. Like Grian has mentioned he’s married a few times, he has some photos posted on his Instagram- and people are acting like “how come I didn’t know this private adult man is married WHAT, he’s only mentioned it a few times????” (it’s an over reaction on my part but still kinda what they doin) the hermits very much so have a online presence separate from them irl, they’ve been creators longer than dsmp members so they’ve grown into that. I feel like the new people don’t realize that- that creators aren’t just creators- they’re grown adults. Like this is their job, their job isn’t their entire life, they have a very good balance of their online and personal lives. And I don’t think new fans get that completely.

To be serious for a moment, you simply cannot live your life only consuming media that satisfies your own high standards of morality, and if you think you can you clearly have nothing but a base level of media understanding, because that isn’t how the world or art works. If you go through life rejecting pieces of art because you disagree with the artist’s personal life, conventions of the time or god forbid, simply because it doesn’t match up to what makes you feel comfortable then I truly do pity you?? Sometimes you do read a book or play a game or read a criticism of something and think “huh. That’s not right.” - but if you put it down there and then you’ll never learn how to understand why those things were there in the first place, and you’ll end up trapped in the same vicious cycle of confusion and discomfort. Yes, media and art should be criticised and held under a microscope and analysed to hell and back, but a refusal to even engage on a base level with anything that fits outside your political views or frame of reference is ridiculous.

What people think Laura is doing to romance Travis: shamelessly flirt with his character to force him into a relationship

What Laura is actually doing to romance Travis: make her character openly support him emotionally, show her vulnerabilities, create heartfelt moments, be the person his character can trust and depend on the most and make him an important part of her character growth while encouraging his.

Seriously, think about it:

What times have been the ones where Travis/Fjord seems most on-board with their relationship? Which are their BIG moments that seem to switch the direction of their relationship?

a. Jester being supportive of Fjord’s self-esteem and him asking her to keep an eye on his growing tusks —led to several moments of her reassuring him and checking in on his slow tusk growth.

b. Fjord realizing Jester is hiding her trauma after the Iron Shepherds —led to Fjord more actively checking in on her physical and emotional wellbeing.

c. Jester first actively promising to support Fjord during the jellyfish talk and then opening up to him about her own vulnerabilities —Travis has singled out this moment on Talks as a game-changer and it wasn’t the least bit flirty or provocative

d. Smaller moment but when she apologizes for not saving him sooner in the first temple —led to Travis looking into the camera like he was in the office but also was one ep before the underwater kiss

e. Checking in on Fjord after the Plank King trial and offering her support to find his parental figure —led to Fjord thanking her for keeping his secrets and on him relying on her presence the most while visiting his shipwreck

f. Realizing he fucked up during the dragon fight and actively trying to fix it —led to Fjord paying extra attention to Jester trying to cheer her up and make up for it

g. Praying for the Traveler to protect Fjord in the second temple —led to a soft talk with lots of gentle un-said feelings and mending things between them after the whole pirate arc

h. Jester checking in with him after his first talk with Wursh —an extension to their deal regarding his tusks and self-esteem which was also right before their potion-talk

i. Jester insisting he takes the greater healing potion after he tried to gift it to her —right before he got super flirting during the ghost jellyfish fight

j. Asking about how he’s feeling in his first house ever and offering emotional support if he needs it —right before he saves her and says “we look out for each other”

k. Constantly protecting him during battle, making him a priority and looking out for him too —led to the kiss in the cheek, probably also inspired by all the previously mentioned points.

TL;DR: Laura isn’t pushing Travis into a sexy d&d romance. She’s masterfully opening doors for him to willingly walk through, in ways that feel both natural to their characters and which feed both of their character arcs. Anyone acting like she’s forcing this on him is only petty because her strategy is working.
