An Open Letter To DiscoverPetronas.com
Discoverpetronas.com has been a facade for the recruitment of the big national green company. Countless application have been lodge into their database to young and hopeful candidates trying to find a job there. It is interesting to see if this system really is working or it is just a veil to show that the HR department has its worth and the company is really innovative in terms of ICT advancement.
As a citizen from the big oil city, I have seen countless of my friends and family apply for a job in this prestigious company. Although I have never seen any statistics made to back up my suggestions, most of the people who managed to get a gig there, never get pass through the system itself. Most of them are basically from internal applications, has a background from their own educational system, or have started from smaller contractor companies. It is ashamed to say that I have known none (or maybe I have missed anyone) that have passed through this prestigious selection process.
I know that in the current economic state, hiring will be tone down by the Oil and Gas industry, but the reason that I am writing this post is because I find it hilarious on the existence of this portal. Or should I say this facade of recruitment process. I know that recruitment process like this is to give fair play towards everyone, and I respect the fact that this company is giving a shot at trying to copy and use a correct system. At least try to have some closure to the applications.
The reason being said is that my application has been pending for nearly 2 years now, and it’s frustrating to see that when approached internally, the reply will always be, 'Please apply at discoverypetronas.com', as if we don't know the existence of this portal. I believe that the Human Resources should react and be more proactive with the applications. A little closure for example, “Your application is not successful”, will be a good start too. It shows the dedication and motivation of a well establish company in trying to find the best talent out there.
I am not writing this because I am angry due to the fact that I am not recruited. I am writing this to show my displeasure on the current system where no closure has been given. It’s sad to see that applications are left pending for year, while they boast and advertise more and more recruitment in the newspapers. I hope that this wouldn’t reflect the work ethics of the people there, because I still believe that this company has the potential to become better, and contribute to where they have found their wealth from.
Enough said, I still believe in Fair Play recruitment, and a chance for everyone.
