Discovery Task 5

I think my adaptation was very successful with the tone of the tweet, and reflecting what was being said. The challenging part was figuring out how to signify Peter and Lisa as “lovers” so I attempted to utilize emojis within address book names to reflect the intimacy. Readers might know this is an adaptation because it has Trump at the end making his claims. I included protesters outside the White House window behind Trump to clarify that it is, in fact, Trump. 

I really enjoyed this project, and it is one of my favorite comics so far. I don’t think anything was sacrificed, really, as the tweet is so short I was able to include everything. I utilized the trick of the asterisk, with a kind of “editor’s note” box. Also, the second hand I drew was pretty wonky. 

(Hands are hard. I didn’t give Trump any hands. Without hands, he cannot tweet and we are all safer for it.)

Discovery Task #5 Adaptation

I am not entirely pleased with the way it turned out - there could have been more planning especially with that big flower in the middle of the first page...

& I used two pages even thought it said one because these pages are small and together spread out like this they are roughly the size of a standard sheet of paper.

I went a little crazy with a couple different techniques, breaking the frames and overlaying images onto the frames and through them a little... I played with the speech bubbles and their tails, trying to emulate the comic I read this morning, March: Book One in which the illustrator used the tails of the speech bubbles to represent the flow of the speech, the breath of the speaker, and the tone as well.

it isn’t awful and my little character is increasingly cute the more I draw him, my little Brunetti Bunny Monk ^-^ I thought it was silly, because “Hare Krishna” said by a hare.... get it? Hare... hare.... I thought it was good. And it made the character more interesting, because the monks were bald except small patches at the back, so seeing the character up front as you do, you wouldn’t even see it. But bunny ears, those you see.

It was a relaxing exercise for me though; the content was especially useful to me tonight - and yes that is me admitting that I finally drew this all the way out tonight, just before I am typing this. I have been thinking about it, as we all do, since Thursday when i got the flyer, and I drew my little dude like Friday I think, but the fill form of it, happened tonight. Some of it even after I started to take pictures to post and decided I wanted it to look a little different.

Discovery Task 5 - Imitation Comic

For the imitation comic, I chose Ziggy! I loved these comics as a kid, even if I didn’t understand them...mostly because I thought Ziggy was adorable. In fact, I think I have a stuffed Ziggy toy in a box in my parent’s attic. I digress.

I chose this comic because Ziggy seemed relatively easy to draw, and because I was fresh off viewing a political recap on the news when I came across this panel. I liked the message, so I went with it (because really...why spend all that cash?!). 

I think for Ziggy, the simple lines and easy-to-draw character are what make his messages matter. The function of a simple comic man seems more appropriate than a more ornate drawing because we relate to him and inject our own features into this character. The average person probably does question the excessive amounts of money spent by political candidates, as we’ll never see amounts that high in our whole life. By making simple Ziggy ask the question, it prompts the viewer to side with him and wonder why politicians do something so crazy.

As for taking the comic and making it my own, I found it fairly easy. However, the hand of my Kelsey-Ziggy is pretty shameful. Actually, just ignore it if you can. It’s hideous.
