Ooktober 24 - Glom of Nit
concept: Cheery and Dorfl become super good friends due to a sense of similar experience and unwittingly being cultural revolutionaries and just sort of.... winging it
you wouldn’t think so, because of the difference in Dorfl being a Fantasy Robot who said ‘we own ourselves’ and convinced his people to make themselves free, understanding something impossible to them, and Cheery opened the gates for other dwarfs to say ‘there is such a thing as the female pronoun and its ours now’ against untold EONS of gender politics and norms. both are about identity, and personhood, but you wouldn’t think there’s much common ground between those very different circumstances
you’d be wrong!!
given the themes of Feet of Clay, and a strong sense of claiming your own personhood and identity, it just feels RIGHT for them to be friends
its just that they don’t befriend much at work, since Dorfl is a patrolgolem and Cheery’s proto-forensics means they don’t cross spaces much, but off the clock, they hang out a lot and try to figure out things like Why Are Humans So Weird and navigate new and mysterious language barriers, stuff like that
they approach it from different angles; Dorfl regards squishy people as a sort of fascinating mystery that is baffling but intriguing at the same time, at face value. Cheery TRIES to go along with things even if she has no idea what’s going on, she does her best and as a result, people assume she’s more in the know than Dorfl, even though they’re both equally as baffled.
(plus, possible threats of violence towards dwarfs that declare they are women are already prone to retaliation from axes in the face, but your conservative/proto-TERFs get even more terrified at the prospect of eight foot tall juggernauts, that they know CAN kill if needed, will take a dim view of them making life troubled for their dwarf friends. Dorfl found himself invited to the meetings Cheery has started, he brought friends like Gladys, and the golems got Attached, in their own fashion. They respond to people being mean to their dwarf friends in a very scary way, albeit polite as only golems can be.
this also works the other way around; golems may be disinclined to fight back in a lethal fashion, but dwarfs are not so patient. The last person who firebombed the Golem Trust, after Dorfl and the other golems made their new friends, will require new arms before they can even THINK of trying that again. dwarfs take a much more direct approach)
We as a society haven't considered the potential of the Moist/Mr. Pump ship
There's golden golems? Very interesting. The Low King isn't going to be pleased about that, I don't think.
Oh no, Anghammarad!!! Ohhhh...
But at the same time, it's nice to know that Death is there for the Golems as well. I love that the universe acknowledges their lives in that way.
There are so very many golems, it makes me so happy!
Did the golems of Anhk Morpork make the one in the beginning?
The golems are giving me feelings. I love them, and they're making me sad.
