Since school is coming to an end, a lot of unexpected groups are forming in my class, and we randomly sit and chat about things. So it was physics labs and ma'am was absent, and a bunch of people and I who never usually speak started talking. It was one big group of people. The topic of "lower class" people joining our school came up. And basically how our school should be more selective about who to let in (it's a private school). I immediately thought wtf bc. That's simply clasist. They were all agreeing with eachother but I interrupted in a decently nice way to say "hey guys I understand where ur coming from but that's insanely clasist" and alllll of them immediately came to defense saying "nooooo the thing is the basic difference and mentality difference and blah blah creates a barrier" and the whole time I was trying to bite my tongue bc, I don't want to make enemies days before school ends and they wouldn't understand my point anyways. My point is, I'm not denying the fundamental difference between someone who is well off vs someone from a relatively lower financial background, that's inevitably there but they were ignoring the fact that they were literally being clasist in the principle of it, and acting like "poor" people are mentally inferior and cant keep up with the highest echelon of society such as themselves. And they were acting like THAT'S the issue with our school out of all things. I wanted to say that none of us knew eachothers financial backgrounds nor our parents' jobs. What if I said that my mother was a cleaner in other houses, would that make me magically incompatible?? Their argument had no real basis, and it was jarring to see blatant prejudice and disregard of humans. "We wouldn't be able to connect" my fucking ass are yall discussing what porche model yall wanna buy or smth????? If a student from "a lower background" according to them can pay for the school, they deserve to be there end of fucking story.

Ofc I didn't say any of that bc I would be outcasted plus. I wasn't having this conversation with my best friend. If we had a difference of opinion, we respect eavhother enough to listen and actually take time to understand eavhothers pov. None of the people in that table except a friend of a friend seemed even slightly receptive to my pov. So I just nodded along.

Idk I just wanted to share how these deeply seated prejudices are still so prevalent among young teens. It's so fucking sad that they don't know to think better
