Famicom Disk System – Gaming Historian Gaming Historian tells you everything you need to know about the Famicom Disk System. Nintendo considered the Disk System the future of the Famicom, and ... source
A Newcomer Approaches .... Disk-kun!
Name: Disk-kun Original Series: N/A ... Mascot of the Famicom Disk System
The Famicom Disk System released in Japan to meet demands of players who wanted the ability to save game progress, also allowing games to be copied and written to disks. Nintendo soon after started to hold high score contests, with Disk-kun as the mascot. Though the whole concept never really made it overseas, it made a splash is Japan.
Disk-kun would be a surprise retro character in Smash, along the lines of R.O.B., and would represent his peripheral hardware: the Famicom Disk System. He would be very unique and kind of comical to watch. Given his shape, his movements couldn't be very exaggerated, lending to some amusing animations. And his specials would make his play style a bit different every time, depending on who your opponents are.
Disk-kun's attacks:
Standard B - Read ... Disk-kun's eyes glow and emit a searchlight beam that traps opponents within range. It doesn't do damage, but it stops them in their tracks for a moment. The information of the last character Disk-kun reads is stored until he reads a new opponent or is KOed.
Side B - Disk Shot ... Disk-kun fires little Famicom disks from a disk system. These are simple projectiles that spin through the air and hit opponents for a bit of damage and slight stopping power.
Up B - Eject ... Disk-kun hops into a big Famicom disk system and launches upward into the air, spinning through he sky as he rises. He'll hit opponents fairly hard on his way and knock them flying too. The Famicom disk system will linger for a moment, and if another player lands on it, they'll enter it too. But they aren't a readable disk! The Famicom will smoke and then explode, launching them. Knocking an opponent into the system may make for an interesting strategy.
Down B - Write ... Disk-kun writes the last character he's read. If he hasn't read any character since respawning, this move won't work. Similar to reading, his eyes glow and a beam of light comes out. An 8-bit version of the character appears pixel-by-pixel and comes to life. This character acts as Disk-kun's minion. It'll have basic hits and a basic version of the character's standard special attack (or whatever move Kirby gets from them in some special cases). They'll take a few hits before disappearing, similar to Starfy. Once one has been KOed, another can be written. Only one can be in play at a time.
Final Smash - Error ... Disk-kun becomes kind of glitchy, with pixelated messed-up patches and awkward animations. He still plays as normal except his specials all become Errors. Pressing B within range of an opponent with create a brief error screen, making the target glitch out then launching them. Before it wears off, Disk-kun should try to Error Code as many opponents as possible. For the duration of the final smash, any opponents who are launched by the Error Code but manage to survive are messed up. Their moves won't work properly, their movement may be affected, etc. So Disk-kun will have an easier time trying to get to them and launch them a second time.
