Built in the Potala Palace architectural style, this monastery houses the tallest and oldest Buddha statue (32 metres high) in Leh. While the largest statue, which faces Pakistan is relatively new, the monastery dates back to the 14th century. Maitrayee Buddha as it is called was built to promote world peace and to stop war in the region alongwith the prospect of protecting the ailing Diskit village which was often caught in Indo-Pak war. Today it still sits beside the Shlok river in the Nubra Valley, 19 kilometer east of Tibbat, the Dalai Lama's Headquarters. In times like these, it is this we need not back end deliberation worsening the plight of the people Picture taken by Pradyotmoy Nath #maitrayeebudhha #maitrayee #diskitvalley #diskitmonastery #diskitvillage #14thcentury #shlokriver #nubravalley #worldpeace #peace #peacetalks #warandpeace #war #leh #lehladakh #lehladakhtourism #ladakhtravel #traveling #mystique_asia #incredibleindia #travelgram #travelblog #travelbloggerslife #indiantravelblogger #natgeoindia #nature #landscapes #natgeotravel #yourshotphotography @incredibleindia @natgeoyourshot @natgeoindia @yourshot.community @worldphotographicforum (at Diskit Monastery) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4PceoXn71A/?igshid=1dj1dqfaitb9v
