Disney College Program
Any tips for applying for DCP? Application tips, etc? Anything is helpful!
Initial application
So for the first part of the application process you fill out a general application about yourself, work history, and blah blah blah. Towards the end you will get to rank job preferences and select which park you would like to be at or you can put that you'd like to be examined for both so then you have ahigher chance of getting into one or the other. I would look into each role beofre ranking them based off of the information they give you, they provide you with very minimal when each job actually requires a lot. Once you've submitted that you recieve an email which has a link to a questionnare. It's one that pretty much evaluates you as a person based on your answeres; how you rank certain attributes of yourself, how you would react, what kind of person you believe yourself to be...etc. You've probably done something like this if you've ever applied to a job online, especially if it was with a resturaunt. These types of questionnares dont really mean anything and are easy to pass as long as you answer truthfully about yourself. How they work is by asking a lot of questions and then those questions are repeated a number of times in a different wording, if you dont answer truthfully and put something completley different on a similar question then it raises a flag in the eyes of those hiring. So many inconsistant answers will cause a company to not hire you becaue it shows mental unstability, trouble in your life at the moment, and stuff like that. It's a test created by psychologist so just be honest about yourself so you avoid these flags and missing out on a great opportunity. Once you complete this questionnare which takes 30-45 minutes you wait for an email to schedule a phone interview, assumming that you've progressed onto the next stage in hiring. If you didn't move onto the next stage you will get an email within 24 hours saying that there we're no available positions for you at Disney at the time but your application stays of file for 6 months.

My Journey
Good afternoon! I figured I would go through how I got to the point I'm at right now in this whole process. It has been a long one but I'll give you the highlights of what I went through.
Application I applied on the first day applications were open, from what I can tell this doesn't help or hurt you in the grand scheme of things but for me, I like to get things done as soon as possible so I was sitting on my laptop at midnight hitting refresh, waiting for the positions I wanted to apply to appear. And when they did I jumped on it! I applied for 3 different types of positions. Management Internship in both Retail and Theme Park Operations, as well as Alumni Only Guest Relations Professional Internship.
The application itself is pretty straight forward, nothing you haven't done before. If you are applying for more than one position (which I assume most of you reading this are) you still have to click through the application for that particular job, but the information will be stored from your first application. This is something I think they improve on because it doesn't seem like a very efficient (see what I did there?) way of doing this.
Now some people will tell you that submitting a cover letter is a must. I am here to tell you that I got my management internship without a cover letter. Now this may be because of the backing from my old managers from my CP days, but when I was in talks with them they never told me to upload one so it really is up to you.
Thats it, super easy right? Ohhh its just beginning!
Phone Screen After about a week or so I got an email saying that I needed to set up a phone interview with Disney. This was super easy to do and all of the information was on the dashboard. The worst part about the whole experience is the minutes leading up to the phone call. I remember I was sitting on my cough with all my notes spread out on my coffee table with the print outs of the positions for which I applied.
The phone call finally came 10 minutes after the time I had set up. This is normal, there is a disclaimer when you sign up saying that they can call you up to 15 minutes before or after your scheduled time. It doesn't make the waiting any less nerve-wracking though. It was relatively straight forward, I dont remember specifics of the call because it was 5 months ago but I remember feeling that it was much easier than what I was expecting.
Waiting Game Hurry up and wait. Thats the best way I can describe the part that comes after that phone screen. Unlike the college program that is relatively quick with sending out offers, professional and management internships are much more competitive so more time is needed to sort through the candidates.
To put it in perspective, I just found out two days ago, May 29th 2014, that I was selected for a management internship. Over 5 months after I originally applied. So its a process, and a long one. But patients is a virtue and if you have it you will be well suited during this time.
This is the hardest part of the whole process if you ask me. So be prepared to wait.
Panel Interview If you make it through the phone screen and dont get "no longer in consideration" (NLIC) on your dashboard then you will get a phone call or email about setting up a panel interview. I got a phone call on March 9th around 11am. And I set it up for March 13th at 9am. They ask you if you would like another phone interview or a video interview (Skype interview). I opted for the phone interview because...well i'm not sure really, it was the first thing that popped out of my mouth. lol
More waiting Guess what, you have to wait again! This time it really is going to seem like FOREVER! Because now your part is done in the process. Everything is now in the hands of the people who will be making the decision if you will get a spot or not. So that brought me some comfort, knowing that my part was done. But at school I was a wreck, waiting, waiting, waiting. Every time my phone vibrated or rang I jumped up hoping it was a 407 area code. It wasn't, until it was.
Offer #1 My particular story is different than some peoples. I got an email from Disney asking me to set up a phone call about my Guest Relations application. This in my case was my first offer! I was offered a Guest Relations Internship at the Magic Kingdom, MY HOME PARK! I was ecstatic, so of course i accepted it. I accepted it under to condition that I would still be in consideration for the MIs I applied to. And if I got it, I would be taken out of this GR offer. But that deadline came and went for the MIs and I was put into the dreaded NLIC spot on my dashboard. So there it was I was all set to be a Guest Relations Professional Intern at the Magic Kingdom.
Offer #2 I dont know how this happened. And to be honest I'm still in shock, but about a week after I moved down to Florida, got into my apartment, set it all up, I was in the middle of getting my tv mounted to my wall when I got another call from a 407 area code. It was totally unexpected.
It was a lady by the name of Kerri MacPearson (spelling?) and she said that she wanted to talk to me about my MI application. I figured it was feedback about my panel interview because in the Facebook groups people would talk about how getting feedback for positions you didn't get was a good idea. But little did I know that she was going to offer me the MI in Retail! This was my top choice when first applied wayy back in January! Of course I accepted the role and I am now a Management Intern in Retail.
I won't be in a park this time, I was told I will be in a resort but she didn't know which one as of yet. So i'm anxious to see life outside of the parks. I'm pretty sure my hours will be better. Which is a good thing!
Conclusion Sorry about the length of this post! I wanted to keep it short but It is a long process! I hope this helps someone out there who is thinking about applying to a PI, MI, or even the College Program. This was my journey, and like Disney likes to say, every story has a beginning.
Disney World Princesses Application
Hello my name is Josephine and I would like to apply for Cinderella, Jasmine, and Mulan.
Why I would love to be Cinderella.
In her movie, Cinderella how to endure many hardships that many would find unimaginable. For instance, even though her father was shown only briefly at the beginning, I can tell that she truly loves her father and is very close to him. He tries to provide the very best for Cinderella even remarrying to another woman so she could have a mother and sisters. It must have been very hard for her to have lost her father so soon. Ultimately, Lady Tremaine is not the best mother and treats Cinderella unfairly after her father dies. Cinderella is a very optimistic and cheerful person. She never complains about her or her stepsisters. Why I would love to be Cinderella, is because she represent hope. No matter how hard, difficult, or miserable something maybe, we should try to the make the best of things. Also, I love how she is kind to animals even to Lucifer the cat. And that's what I love about Cinderella.
Why I would love to be Jasmine.
Jasmine in the movie feels a little trapped and pressured to marry someone. Though her father loves her, he doesn't understand that he should let her heart decide on who she wants to marry. What I like about her is she is independent and allow herself to fall in love with someone who truly cares for her. This I can relate to very much. I'm not in love with anyone, but in general the situation is the same. Often times we are told that we must do this for that reason, but in our hearts we know that this isn't right for us. No matter how hard we try to explain to our parents, sometimes they don't understand until much later. This is why I want to be Jasmine.
Why I would love to be Mulan.
Though Mulan broke the law that forbidden girls to join the army, she went anyways out of love and protection for her father. I can relate to this very much. Overall, I am very close to my family this includes my grandparents, parents, and sister. I would do anything out of love for my family to protect and help them. Especially, with my grandmother she is battling cancer a 2nd time now and I keep thinking I would do anything to help her be well again. Anything to free her from the illness. Anything to prevent the cancer from coming back. Mulan joined the Imperial Army to prevent her father from getting killed. If I were in her shoes, I would've done the same for my family.
Disney Princess Network Application
Hello!! My name is Brianne but I also go by Brie. I have always been obsessed with Disney. The first time I went to Disney, I was less then five years old and ever since then I have gone from year to year and I never grow tired of it. I don’t think that you can ever out grow Disney because it is pure magic. This is the main reason I like to run a Disney blog. I enjoy spreading magic throughout tumblr. Disney is a corporation that is for adults as well as kids, and everyone should experience it. Disney has inspired to be who I am today. I want to live out my own fairy tale and dreams.
I believe I can relate to millions of Disney characters. I would love to be anyone in a princess network like this one. Overall, I think I can closely relate to Rapunzel. I believe we share many of the same characteristics. For one, I love art from painting to drawing. I also have a carefree personality but also hold back sometimes from worrying. As most of us know Rapunzel has a dream to full fill, but she is worried on how the dream will end. I have learned from Rapunzel that dreams are worth living and that you need to follow your heart. In my life I have experienced many ups and downs as most people. The movie Tangled helps me escape those things and bring me to a different world. For me Rapunzel represents dreams and me fulling mine. I would like to spread that to the tumblr community. Rapunzel is also my favorite character because of her quirkiness. Like me, Rapunzel does things differently and doesn't care what anyone else thinks. To be honest I need to work on ignoring people but I can try. Rapunzel inspires me to look forward and forget the past. Being in a Disney Network would give me they opportunity to connect with the movie Tangled even closer, and also connect with tumblr role playing my favorite Disney Princess.
Thank you, and I hope you consider my application!!!
First Steps: Application & Web Interview
With a mother so addicted to Disney that she manages to take her family of 8 to Disney World (including a cranky husband) over 8 times (and still make it different each time; this woman is Mary Poppins with the bag of tricks she has!) having a child in the Disney Program would be all the more reason for another Disney adventure.
You could safely assume this woman was stalking the Disney College Program site and multiple ‘Disney boards’ for information. This crazy woman proved to be an excellent partner-in-crime as she was first to notify me that the Disney site changed. So the e-mail notification I signed up for did not come right when the application progress began!
So, tip #1: Always check the Disney College Program site!
The application process was pretty basic, a series of your personal information, which program (I chose Spring 2012 Program!) etc.The most fun part, though, was the page with all the different job options that asked your interest level for each one. Yes, you must put an answer for all of them! Know that they will see this and all you interest levels for each job later on, so if you have absolutely no interest in a job don’t put a moderate (or even low level) interest for it! If push comes to shove, you might be in that ‘dreaded’ job thus leading to a sour experience—ick!
Tip #2: Don’t fake an interest!
It also asked for your previous job information. Personally, I have no legit job experience, but I did have many volunteering experiences—which count! These include things from being part of a fundraiser for the Japan earthquake victims, hosting exchange students, as well as volunteering, on numerous occasions, at a historical house near my area.
Tip #3: No job experience? No problem—volunteering!
I received my ‘thank-you’ email and within a day, was proceeded to the web based interview.
This interview is timed—they want your gut answers. You must also be honest as some questions may or may not be repeated and may or may not be reworded. Questions include things about you, scenarios, ‘on a scale of 1 to 5,’ etc. It isn’t hard one bit…just time consuming. It was actually longer than I thought…At some point during the thing I thought life was a lie and I was stuck in a never ending loop of questions. BUT. I finished with the note that I was a ‘strong candidate’ (I think I can assume that everyone who passed got ‘strong candidate!) Whoopee!
Tip #4: Be yourself and honest!
I received my e-mail regarding the phone interview, followed instructions to sign up for a date, and that was the end of that. Next…the phone interview…
Sincerely,
Lady Lottie
PS My mom believes she has some ‘psychic ability’ and that she already knows I got in AND my job. She didn’t tell me, but we will see. I don’t trust this sixth sense as far as I can throw my mom. Puh.
