Tips for going to Epcot with a baby
Make sure you plan your trip around the weather. Disney is a lot of walking. And if you’re not walking, chances are you’re waiting in line outside, eating outside, watching a parade outside. Get the picture? And news flash - Florida is really hot (and humid) practically all year long. In general, October to February is pretty nice, but any day during that time span has the potential to be ridiculously miserable. So prepare mentally for that. Meaning, pace yourself. Don’t get bummed if you don’t hit all the attractions you’d planned on seeing. You and your family will be much happier if you go with the flow.
Second tip is find an AC oasis. This really just goes back to tip #1. There are many excellent hiding places that aren’t so obvious if just passing by. 1) the pyramid in Mexico. Shopping, a boat ride even an infant can go on, a restaurant, and an awesome tequila bar. 2) the theatre inside China. The audience stands and is surrounded by a 360 degree screen. If baby gets fussy you can easy leave. 3) theatre inside America. Same type deal but you’re sitting. 4) theatre inside France. Sitting again. 5) theatre inside Canada. Standing and 360 degrees like China. 6) the aquarium inside the Living Seas. 7) the Land ride (slow moving boat) and the Seasons cafeteria under the same roof.
Third tip is bring your own shade. Again, related to tip #1. Use a stroller with a big shade, bring light blankets, sun hats and sunscreen if baby is old enough to use it. They make infant sunglasses as well that you can use if baby will tolerate them.
And lastly, make sure baby stays hydrated. Bring plenty of feeding supplies or stop frequently for breastfeeding (which means mom needs to stay well hydrated too!). There is a baby center at the Odyssey building. As you’re entering the park and walking toward the World Showcase it will be on your left on the other side of a small lagoon. Here you can change and feed baby and pick up any baby paraphernalia you might be low on.
So in summary: it’s almost always hot and muggy, pace yourself (you’re on baby time now), spend as much time in AC as possible, make sure the little one is in the shade when outside, and stop often for feedings. It will be a vastly different experience when compared to life before baby. But it’s totally worth it when you see their eyes open wide and hear their excited baby chatter as they take in all the new sights, sounds, and smells.
