8. Hospital AU 36. Text/Letter Fic
Well this has to be Hinny! There is a letter exchange program from last years of high school and Harry is on a long-term recovery unit because he did some heroic stuff. He was supposed to start college this year but instead he's stuck in bed getting surgery after surgery.
He is mopey and hates it there so they suggest he joins the program. and he's so bored that he actually agrees to it. He's terrible at writing but he sends his first letter out, introducing himself and what happened to him (heroic and suffering for it, please and thank you) and gets assigned Ginny as a penpal
She quickly picks up on his sense of humour and writes back in the same way, lamenting about the horrible day she has had (The bus was late again, I bet you don't have that issue lying in bed all day. count your lucky stars, Harry). He appreciates her dark sense of humour.
After a few letters she asks if she can come visit and he says yes but then she walks in, so pretty and bubbly and he actually asks her to leave only to find out from the nurse that she's still there in the waiting room writing him a lengthy letter. A few minutes later he gets the letter from the nurse and he reads it and asks the nurse if she's still there. She is
She comes back in and she's not even mad. She just tells him he must be hurting a lot and she isn't going anywhere. It's the first time since he arrived that he allows himself to cry. she just sits there and strokes his hair and tells him he forgot to mention in his letters that he's extremely good-looking.
This makes him laugh and she smiles back at him.
"I just... you walked in here picture perfect and then I'm such a mess and I didn't want you to see me this way."
She tells him she's seen worse all casually and it isn't true but it does take that anxious feeling away for Harry.
From then on she comes by nearly every day after class and they chat about their day and he helps her with her homework. The first kiss follows quickly
His parents only come by later in the evening usually and by pure chance they just never meet Ginny for a few weeks so one day Ginny waltzes in and is like "Hi Harry" Smooch "Just got back from the hairdresser what do you-? Oh hi didn't see you there." (it's his parents) and Harry introduces her as his penpal and James is like yeah sure looks like your penpal!
