I always get the urge to nuke my entire mods folder and start over when i really should be cleaning it every 2 months or so but noooooo my ADHD brain is like : DLETE DESTROY ANNIHILATE we are totes gonna regret latter but who cares JUST MAKE IT DISAPPEAR.
If the sun went out, how long would it take before we were completely destroyed?
Just 8 minutes after the Sun goes out, every corner of the Earth would be in darkness. The darkness that would be noticed at midnight would come suddenly and without warning. The Moon would not be visible as there is no more sunlight to reflect off its surface. But the real problems start after a few hours.
The first and most critical of all for life is the complete completion of the process of photosynthesis by plant organisms. Without constant oxygen production, many forms of life on the planet are numbered.
The second problem begins to be noticed towards the end of the first day: temperatures have dropped significantly, and continue to drop rapidly. After a month the planet is covered with ice, reaching a temperature of -40°. The only forms of life that still resist continued cooling are those in close proximity to geothermal activity, such as fault lines, geothermal vents, and ocean areas. According to several studies, the Earth should continue to cool down, turning into a celestial body completely covered in ice.
In 10 to 20 years, the cold at the surface would be so extreme (about -240 degrees Celsius) that atmospheric gases would begin to condense and fall to the surface, first as dew and then as snow. The atmosphere would completely collapse and cover the planet with solidified oxygen, hydrogen and other gases. Life on land would continue because the extremophile organisms of the deep ocean do not need light to survive and would be food for small fish and molluscs.
For now, we only consider the possibility that the Sun no longer radiates the Earth with its precious energy. But let's also consider the possibility that it is compromised as a star and that its influence in the solar system is also lost. Without the Sun's gravitational field, the solar system itself would be affected, leaving all present planets adrift in space with the various celestial bodies orbiting around them.
But there is good news: if planet Earth manages to wander through space without colliding with other planets or asteroids, there may be a very slim chance of finding another Sun and integrating into a new system.
