Umno leaders not doing enough to defend Najib, says division chief
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23, 2014:
Umno leaders need to do better in defending the position of their president, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, said Umno Cheras division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee.
These leaders, especially Supreme Council members, needed to be more resilient and come forward to fend off those targeting Najib, who is also Prime Minister, he added.
As for the Puteri, Wanita and Pemuda division leaders, he said, they should shield their leader from attacks from the Opposition.
“Day after day, when we read social media sites, there is sure to be defamatory statements by the Opposition against Najib, but unfortunately the allegations are not met with a response from Umno leaders. This is very upsetting.
“We are the ones who chose Najib as the party president, so we should be the ones responsible for defending his leadership and making Umno a strong party that will protect the rights of the Malays,” he said in his blog post today.
He said if leaders remained silent, the defamation would be assumed to be true and could confuse the public.
He named Opposition leaders, including Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Rafizi Ramli, as some of those who were most aggressive in attacking Najib, adding that they used pro-Opposition social media and news sites to propagate the attacks.
“Umno leaders need not be nervous or scared to face the likes of Lim Kit Siang or Rafizi because the allegations they throw are baseless.”
In that, Syed Ali sang praises for Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz for being one of the few who was vocal in facing the Opposition’s attacks.
