J. Carter & Divorce Ring - A Sanguine Bond
VAKNAR
2019
I replaced my wedding ring. I was wearing it mostly out of habit, so now that I have a replacement I figured it was time. I was also waiting to take it off until I knew it wouldn't hurt so much to put it away. I kind of thought it would take longer. I kind of had it in my head that I wouldn't be ready until a judge signed our divorce papers, making it official. A couple weeks ago my ring started falling apart, and I feel like it was really symbolic. It held on and was beautiful through our whole marriage, but as soon as we fell apart, it did too. After that I was just waiting for the right replacement to come along. I really wanted a divorce ring. Something that was just for me. I guess to remind me that I'll be okay. I put it in a small silk pouch with his ring and then put that in a box in my closet. They now live amongst things like the letter from my mom when she was in jail, and the card we got from the hotel on our wedding anniversary.
Todays featured custom item is an unconventional piece inspired by a strange and unusual creature.
A woman came to Brittany looking to make something unusual; a divorce ring. And what better symbol could there be of turning a crappy situation into something beautiful than the dung beetle? These creatures create homes, food and any number of interesting structures out of the feces of other animals - taking sh*t and making it useful. This one is handcut out of sterling silver.
