Destination: Still Unreached.
I started this blog as a way to mourn my marriage and deal with the huge transition I was making. Over time I’ve needed the outlet less and less so I’ve been writing fewer blog posts. But I’m still in that transition. I’m still figuring out where to go, what my next step is, and how to navigate life on my own.
I just really want to say that I’m so unbelievably proud of myself for making it through 2017 as gracefully as I did. I didn’t completely derail my life. I didn’t lose my mind (entirely). And most importantly - I didn’t give up. The stress and pressure has finally gotten to me though and I’ve decided to start taking antidepressants again. I’m not looking at this as a failure at all though. In fact, I see it as the exact opposite. This is success. Recognizing that I’m not okay is such a HUGE step for me.
In 2018, I’m going to do whatever I need to do to make myself better. I’m finally going to fully commit to taking care of my health - both physically and mentally. My first steps are getting back on meds and taking care of my teeth (I’ve already started on both of these). Eventually I will also start some kind of therapy or counseling because this last year has shown me that I have a lot of baggage that I need to unpack.
Since the divorce, I’ve started to learn how to rely more on myself and less on other people. I’m going to continue learning how to do this more and more but I’m also going to try to better recognize when I need to ask for help. I have a lot of really poor learned behavior so it’s hard for me to find the proper balance in this. I’ve been really stubborn about doing things on my own and not allowing anyone to save me. But sometimes I need to be saved. Finding this balance is going to be a challenge, but it’s something I need to figure out.
2018 is going to be the year that I finally recover from all the hellish bullshit I’ve been through. The year I finally let it all go. The year that I finally set my sights on a destination and take the steps to reach it.
