I remember having a sand box when I was little. I make everything from villages to mud bricks! I absolutely love this idea of making your own covered sand box! Small and Friendly has all the information you need to make your own!

I don’t know about you, but I have kids who go outside for 5 minutes and then want to come back in unless there is something really awesome to do outside. I think the summer heat has A LOT to do with that right now. We have all sorts of great outside toys but they became bored pretty quickly.

DIY Portable Desktop Sandbox Tutorial from Nellie Bellie here. How much more fun is this than a zen garden? She made this from a wood box from Michaels and input from a 10 year old. However, this Altoids Tin DIY zen garden that I reblogged is pretty cool.
DIY Sandbox
Built the kids a sandbox using 2"x12" boards and a single sheet of 3/4" plywood cut in half. Painted with 2 coats of exterior primer and 2 coats of exterior paint. Put the lid on hinges and used some rope to make a handle. The lid will keep animals and rain out. I didn't want the entire thing sitting on the ground for water/rain, so I used a 4x4 pretreated post to make legs, with one in the middle for support. The final decisions are 4' x 4', which is 1 sheet of plywood cut in half to save costs. Took about 16 bags of 50lb. Play Sand from Lowes.
