A recent poll found that fewer than three in 10 Americans use sunscreen on a regular basis. With skin cancer diagnoses alone totaling more than the diagnoses of breast, lung and prostate cancer combined (scary, right?), this is a statistic that needs to change ASAP.
Moral of the story? Apply sunscreen daily, even if you’ll only be exposed to minimal sunlight.

If you’re hesitant to apply the chemical-laden sunscreens out there to your skin, try our all-natural DIY sunscreen recipe below!
You will need:
Large jar
Pan
Small Mason jar
Wooden spoon
Ingredients:
½ cup Olive Oil
¼ cup Garden of Life® Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
¼ cup Beeswax pellets
2 Tbsp. Zinc Oxide (powder form)
2 Tbsp. Shea Butter
2 tsp. Carrot Seed Oil
1 tsp. Essential oil such as Citrus or Coconut
Directions:
Fill pan with about 2 inches of water and heat to medium heat. Place large glass jar into pan and add all ingredients except the Zinc Oxide powder. Allow ingredients to melt together, stirring occasionally (this will take about 10 minutes). Turn off heat and add in Zinc Oxide (do not inhale the zinc oxide), stir again and let cool. Pour sunscreen into a small Mason jar and store in a dark, cool cabinet. Use sunscreen for SPF protection of about 20*. Reapply occasionally if you are swimming. Best if used within 6 months.
*While most of the ingredients used contain natural SPF factors that, when combined, equate to SPF protection of about 20, this recipe has not been tested by a regulatory organization, so an exact SPF protection cannot be confirmed.
