Also, today being my Tumblversary means that tomorrow must be the anniversary of Dizzie day. I imagine that means my dash will be sort of busy tomorrow.

I cannot stop pontificating about these few seconds of Episode 98!

So, acelemaire discussed Darcy's four approaches in this post. But I seem to have more to say about Approach 4 and what is going on in his head as he lays his heart on the line. Again.

(Because I apparently have an infinite fount of thoughts about these fifteen seconds of video...)

When Darcy says "Lizzie, I still feel the same way I felt back in the fall..." he is looking at her.

And she is not looking at him.

[She is trying to wrap her brain around what he is saying. She is astonished.]

But she is not looking at him, so he can't tell what she is thinking or feeling. So he continues his Approach 4, giving her more time respond: "...more strongly, even, than I did then." He doesn't take his eyes away from her as he says that.

And she is still not looking at him.

[She is about to cry. She can hardly believe he's just said that, and now, perhaps it's just that what she had suspected but never fully admitted to her viewers or Jane or Charlotte or even herself, is suddenly clear: she loves him. Or maybe she already knew that and is just trying to process how much her world has just changed and is about to change.]

But she is still not looking at him, so he still can't tell what she is thinking or feeling. He waits a few seconds, still looking at her, hoping for her to turn to him with a radiant smile and assure him that her feelings have changed completely since the fall. But she doesn't.

And now he thinks he must have misread her after all. As this post points out, Darcy gives up. He's heartbroken, and trying to hold himself together and behave appropriately. He looks away from Lizzie, presumably thinking there is no hope and that he must not ever approach her again, and starts his retreat. "...so if you just want to be friends, or say thank you for recent events, then I'm--"

And then his whole world changes, because Lizzie is kissing him.
