2016 Summer Pool Party - Grove City, OH

Our DJ was back again this year to host the 2016 Summer Pool Party for Regency Arms Apartments! J.T. Michaels had the pleasure of providing entertainment for the residents of Regency Arms in Grove City, Ohio.

The fun kicked off at 5pm with music, games, swimming, dancing, and raffle drawing. Food was available at 6pm with hot dogs and hamburgers off the grill, cotton candy, snow cones, and more! During the 7pm hour, J.T. Michaels hosted a music trivia contest, more raffle drawings, and took more awesome requests. At 8pm, it was time for the always popular hula hoop contest, sidewalk chalk contest, limbo contest, and karaoke.

  Finally, we finished up the evening by recognizing the wonderful employees at Regency Arms Apartments! They were each given a Visa® gift card in appreciation for all their hard work this year. Congratulations to the amazing staff in addition to all residents at the pool party that came away with prizes. We look forward to seeing you next year!

Scratch: The Ultimate DJ

Do you remember the game DJ Hero?  If you do have memories of it, it might be nothing more than a fleeting thought about a game that once was.  Obviously there are those who look at a game that tries to mimic a musical instrument as a joke and would never give it the time of day.  Still, there are others who see the novelty and thrilling aspect of the game play which is easy to learn but hard to master.  Since DJing and turntablism seems to be one of those hobbies that eludes the average person, a game built around it is an easy way to explore or at least pretend that they have an idea what is going on. Before Guitar Hero adopted the game DJ Hero, it was in the works as “Scratch: The Ultimate DJ”.  We don’t know what that it because it was never released under that name.  The game play is the same type of game play that has been popular in Japanese dance machines and the like.  It was a game of coordination as well as rhythm more than anything else.  This, at its inception, was almost five years ago and the genre is still selling. http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/03/scratch-the-ult/

‘First Music App with Gamification’

Over the years, advances in programming techniques as well as feedback from users has taught the app world what we like and what we don’t like.  When on a desktop computer, we expect to have programs will full functionality and connectivity to any device via our computers.  However, when we are on the go and want to use that same app with our tablets or phones, we don’t want to be bothered with too many details and options – we want it to be easy to use since we are quite limited in our input methods.  Thus, apps are usually developed around the idea of simplicity, or at least watered down so that they aren’t confusing and difficult. Pandora is an example of an app that basically does most of the work for us.  All the user has to do is worry about stop, play, and skip, which is kind of like back when we had portable CD players with only a few options on them.  Music app developers are always trying to make the program more sociable and user friendly, and so far the best technique has been to make it simple to use.  One strategy is to make the app feel more like a game, or something that we would have fun using. http://evolver.fm/2013/07/25/qa-nwplyng-founder-on-first-music-app-with-gamification/
