Fan-Funding Lessons

Judge your talent and that of others too

As young kids, most of us seem to have the passion for music. Some work upon it and when they enter college, they become the star attraction in their class. However, most of us are bewildered by seeing the best talents in the arena and a thought does creep in; “maybe, I’ll never be able to perform like this”.

No one is gifted from birth. Yes, they might have an inclination and even be encouraged by parents who share the passion, but anyone with the right attitude can be successful. Working on a talent requires hard work and years of patience. Success doesn’t come overnight, and when it does come, it makes you humble enough to respect what you are doing. So never think that you don’t have the talent and thus spending time with your passion, with what you love to do will be futile. In most cases, the encouragement to work hard on an art comes from within. If someone is born with long fingers, it’s a gift to become a guitarist. However, don’t consider this to be more than just a starting point. Hard work and determination can make everything possible.

Being scared of failure

Failure is an important and much needed part of a shining career. Every great musician and DJ has tasted failure at some point of time in their career. Some even experience it when they are actually at the top of their career. While it certainly is a hard pill to swallow, failure is always part of the experience that will make you a better artist. It is only by experience, the hard way that one learns to be the best. As such, failure here is the progress you are making, it would be very unwise if you choose to back out or become over conscious of the possible failure in your career. Welcome failure with open arms and this positivity can take you places.

However, it is also important to remember that you don’t repeat your failure. Failure should be a learning process.

Not making music

The best way to get the attention is doing what you need to do. As a DJ, you are required to make beautiful music, music that would bring the audience to their feet or music that would make a whole crowd settle down and have harmonious heartbeats.

In the midst of all the excitement, recognitions and compliments, there have been many DJs who swayed from their core work and as a result ended up nowhere. Whatever be it, however successful you become never stop following, loving and making music. It is what makes you what you are. Music is a universal truth and you can be sure of success when you are true to it.

I want to mix a track that is solely samples of the sounds the lrt makes e.g. the creepy screeching through tunnels, the dingdong closing doors sound, the "next stop: century park" guy...

If I were to become some semblance of a dj, I'd make mixes most often. They'd be soundtracks to short stories I've written previously. Maybe I'd release them together. Dunno!
