This Target First Saturday, come hear the sounds of the Afrofuture!
The night begins with a performance by Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber celebrating the music of Sun Ra. The music continues with Daví, who curated our latest Spotify playlist “Afrofuturism”, featuring songs from Janet Jackson, Prince, Erykah Badu, OutKast, Frank Ocean, and others.
Listen here. More about his playlist in his own words:
Afrofuturism as a concept for me, speaks to the imagination of future in works by people of African descent, often involving science, technology, love, freedom and metaphysics. This a compilation of certain artists who either through their approach to musicality, their lyricism and/or painted musical landscape speak to that imagination of future in their song. Musical afrofuturists have never looked one way (may they never) however the tapestry they have woven allows us to view life and the universe in exponentially brighter ways; their messages are the nutrients for a better day
As you continue your journey from Ancient Egypt to the Afrofuture with our conversations, films, and gallery tours on December 2nd, make sure to stick around for performances by DJ moMa and Jade de LaFleur of Everyday People at 8 pm.

You Have an Hour to Spare for this Milky mOma Mix
The DJ is mOma. I’ve already gushed about his prowess on the 1s & 2s a couple of times. However, I failed to mention his range. My bad! A couple of years back, mOma put out an 80-mins-long mixof smooth, at times suggestive, R&B that would have warmed many chilly nights. A couple months ago (thereabout 😅), he re-upped with the same concept. It’s 60 minutes this around; your ears won’t complain and…

Another Pan-Africa Journey with DJ mOma
Another Pan-Africa Journey with DJ mOma
I’m still on this DJ mOma Pan-Africa vibe. The first volume was all kinds of dope and the sequel is a real doozy. I’ve played it for friends; I’ve taken over the aux at many a lounge and played it there (😆); I’ve had it on for my commutes home… There’s an undeniable quality to this mix: it induces a jovial mood! No wonder DJ mOma-featured parties and shows have become legend!
