Djamilah was born with fairly high androgen levels, possibly as a result of PCOS. As an AFAB child, they grew to be tall and lanky quickly, as well as pretty hairy. And since they were malnourished as well, their lankiness and large facial features made them look like a poorly put-together doll. Djamilah was considered rather ugly as a child despite all these things being completely out of their control and utterly superficial, the poor thing.

They ended up developing rather well - maybe too well - so that their lankiness mostly went away. Their eyes, nose, and lips ended up fitting their maturing face very well. The only thing was that despite being busty in both the rear and the front, they still had a strikingly handsome face for a woman, as well as a deep voice like blue velvet.

What do you think DJ’s biggest obstacle to her goals is and why? (Either internal, external, or both 👀 )

Ooh, that's a great question! As an ecoterrorist and morally-twisted Robin Hood-esque character, there's a giant laundry list of obstacles that Djamilah (DJ) has to face.

Externally

The main external obstacle in DJ's way is one that most of us consider to be a big impediment, especially right now: the government and the corporations/institutions that influence them. It's pretty self-explanatory. It's a lot to deal with for one person. Even if that person could theoretically command 30-50 feral hogs and force the state of Oklahoma to go into a state of emergency. Hm...round that up to 70 hogs, actually.

Oh, and they've got osteoarthritis so that might be another thing they've got to deal with. Glass bones, paper skin and all that.

Internally

On a more serious note, DJ's internal obstacle is one that not even they would think would be an issue (even though it has been in the past, they just like to deny it).

To understand this issue, you have to know that DJ is a 400+ year old queer black person. Of course, back then, they would have been less willing to consider their identity beyond being a black woman. But regardless, being around for such a long period of time (especially as someone who's a minority) will wear down anyone's sanity. DJ was a very empathetic person before her evolution into an immortal and powerful shaman. Despite the toll of having to endure so much suffering on their mind, DJ has moments of clarity where they are acutely aware of the suffering they themselves have caused. These moments cause them to lose conviction and/or change their mind when trying to reach a goal. In addition, these moments of clarity can also lead to mental breaks where they become extremely violent, harming any who happen to be near by and not excluding themself.

DJ prefers to remain apathetic and disconnected as a result of this, both for their own sanity and even for the greater good.
