This was the scene at our last Django Jazz Night on Monday. An incredible crowd filled the Belgian Beer Bar in Hampden. There were even some amazing dancers who moved gracefully throughout the space. Always a process of trial and error continuing to chip away at these compositions until they are complete. Hours of reviewing ideas on this iPad studio app until a find the right one. It's kind of surreal really, listening to myself play these ideas on the recording and having to re-learn what I've already done. Often my first rough improvised idea is the best one, not the ones I've deliberated over as nauseam. Then I literally have to transcribe my own ideas to be able to play them once again. Sometimes I cannot play these passages at all bc I've forgotten the sublties of the technique I used intuitively when I wrote them. I just have to repeat them over and over, a ritual which I actually enjoy. #originalmusic #djangojazz
