Poster Print Size: 11″ x 17″ / Print Method: B&W photocopier. Plain paper. Original run was designed and printed with “joke tickets” to tear off at the bottom. Curious how many were utilized and/or added confusion at the free show.

Note(s): Sloppy scanning and photochop skills were left haphazardly in a quick turnaround. However, it added image production value of a “bridge” element between original book page-to-hand-to-screen-to printed poster page. It was after the printed fact when a subtle digital rubberstamp “reverberation” was discovered surrounding the horn blower - a happy accident, nonetheless. Inadvertently, this would be a pivotal poster to usher in the next design phase, one where the human element(s) would be left with greater intent as almost all initial poster art would be “built” by hand as “art,” often times rather quickly. Thus, a screen was utilized as a secondary tool (a hammer) in post-production. It was also one of the first to personally employee a more playfully cobbled (and non-computery-coddled) core typographic display. There was a natural engagement to letters turned upside down, or crudely reconstructed, to add character, marry design elements and help tell the story (of poster, musicians’, and even that of the artist’s walk). Indeed, it’s just a poster, but this one really started to speak something. This was the final poster made in Springfield, MO, and just prior to relocating to the family farm, then permanently to Kansas City, MO (Jan. 2002) to officially kick-off the DJG Design odyssey.
