Talib Kweli Presents The Radio Silence Tour!
TALIB KWELI presents the Radio Silence Tour and his first stop was in Dallas on March 20, 2018 at TREES! The Brooklyn-based rapper brought some very memorable guests with him; Niko Is, Skyzoo, Landon Wordswell, and can’t forget about the DJ who kept it rockin; DJ Spintelect!
These guys put on an amazing show! Completely mesmerized by their flows, one would instantly become a fan of their music!
NIKO IS became my favorite as he jokingly mentions before each song that he “wrote the song in the 70s.” The guy doesn’t appear to be much older than 25? He shares a catchy phrase in between songs, “I hope you live 100 years!” Not completely sure how that quote came to be, but it made you think, hmmm.. I hope I live 100 years, too! Niko performed a song called “Onda” which I found myself listening on repeat for next several days. With a smooth, Caribbean flare and hip hop added to it, it felt good. Talib Kweli would finally hit the stage! The extremely woke rapper would consistently drop gems in between songs. Thought provoking words would make you want to have a conversation over tea with him. With each song from albums The Beautiful Struggle, Eardrum, Quality, P.O.C, and some feature songs with other artists, you got more insight on his views.
I personally couldn’t wait to hear “Get By” from the Quality album. (Also available on iTunes) Its chorus is a message, a motivational reminder, even? It just gives me flashbacks of where I’ve come from... the struggles I’ve experienced, but, it makes me feel good knowing I survived every obstacle I was faced with and that I can keep going! It goes like this:
“This morning, I woke up!
Feeling brand new, I jumped up!
Feeling my highs, and my lows,
In my soul, and my goals,
Just to stop smokin’ and stop drinkin’,
But, I’ve been thinkin’, I’ve got my reasons just
