How do you heal the wounds from a painful childhood? No easy answers, especially when there are smells + tastes which bring the past right into the present. This is a great snapshot of one Andrew Minyard navigating another Sunday morning where coffee + donuts take him on a mental journey back to Cass and then bring him back home to the safety of his love with the bright-eyed Neil Josten. As I began typing 'there's Proust + his madeleine and now Andrew + his powdered sugar donut' I realized that is a cruel, cruel connection. I'm so glad that Andrew, and we the reader, are left with the image of Andrew using the donut very creatively; it's a great way to end this story! Thanks @dkafterdark!
