LMAO I believe you’re currently experiencing the “c!tommy crit” effect, where after posting 1 (one) negative or critical ask/post about him dozens of askers flock towards you in order to also express their distaste. It’s probably because aside from like, there being few c!Dream apologist safe blogs, there are also very few blogs where it’s presumed safe to ask about or express c!Tommy crit opinions. So the moment we sense someone else who’s willing to talk, we swarm them like a shark to fish blood.
Long have we been oppressed, long have we hungered, nay, starved for the expression of our unending frustration. The path to war is imminent. Rise up. RISE UP fellow askers! Let it be known to the world that c!TommyInnit is a majorly flawed character who’s flaws should not be excused! Who should not be praised for hurting others! Who’s actions speak infinitely louder than his words! That c!TommyInnt is an interesting character because of his flaws, not in spite of them. That woobifying him to the point of turning this 3-dimensional mess of a teenager into a flat cardboard cutout to fit him into a black and white scheme of “moral pureness” is a disservice to both the character and the work the content creator has put into making said character.
In other words, we’re kinda tired of the major dsmp fandom’s shit takes :)
Also, that moment when you realize the major dsmp fandom doesn’t just flatten out c!Dream, it also flattens out c!Tommy, just in the complete opposite direction. Hmmmmm, reducing interesting and complex characters to one or two personality traits that allows people to put them into constricting black and white roles seems to be a major problem in this fandom 🤔
Yeah, it really seems that way - the c!Tommy crit effect, I mean. I really want my blog to be a safe space for likers of every character so I am a bit afraid of coming off as a c!Tommy anti? Because I'm really not. And I know that doesn't mean much if I post big amounts of crit on him (know people who claim to like c!Dream and their entire blog is bashing the character) which is why I'm like,, it's great to express myself, but also I don't want people to assume that I hate him.
And it's not just this fandom. "Reducing interesting and complex characters to one or two personality traits that allows people to put them into constricting black and white roles" - the other fandoms do the same thing to flatten the characters into pretty tropes for their favorite ship dynamic / perfect found family fluff. Woobification is just much more widespread than dehumanization in those.
Everything would be soo much cooler if people rather analysed how messed up everything is because the characters are all morally gray. c!Dream brings me nothing but pain because he's not 100% evil. (Censored) and (censored)'s relationship has a lot more impact when you realize they're both terrible people and are starting to get better rather than always being great to each other and the good guys.
I feel like very few people tend to ever be vocal about mischaracterization like this, but hey, the DSMP fandom is at the very least big enough when you can find a corner that is survivable in.
