Why We Chose Alternative Education for Our Daughter
Two years ago, if someone had asked me what “alternative education” really meant, I probably would’ve said something vague about fewer textbooks and more fun. Today, after watching my daughter thrive in an alternative learning space, I understand that it’s so much more than that.
For us, it wasn’t about rejecting traditional education. It was about choosing what felt right for our child. A space where her curiosity isn’t boxed in, where questions are encouraged, where her emotional well-being is just as important as her academic growth.
At DLRC, Pune, her current learning centre, the approach is rooted in real-world learning. It’s the Cambridge curriculum, yes, but it’s also farming, building things with her hands in the Design Lab, having open discussions with facilitators, going on nature treks, and simply being allowed to learn at her own pace.
Alternative education gave our daughter the space to grow into who she is, not just what the system expects her to be. And as a parent, I couldn’t have asked for more!
