"THEN WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT"
I WROTE ANOTHER FIC WITH VERGIL
I hope you like it! 🤍☝😌
WARNING: THIS FIC CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM DEVIL MAY CRY SEASON 2
You didn't know Vergil very well.
You'd heard about him from his brother Dante, with whom you'd had a good relationship since you'd revived him from cryogenic stasis, but otherwise you knew nothing more about the other white-haired man, other than that he was your friend's brother, one of Sparda's sons, and had a rather peculiar personality.
At first, you thought he'd be similar to Dante in terms of character, but when you met him, you realized he was quite the opposite.
You observed him from your vantage point atop a building, aiming your long-range rifle at him.
Mundus had brainwashed Vergil, making him believe he had saved him from the demons who murdered his mother, so your mission (yours and Dante's) was to show him he was wrong, and that the marble demon was manipulating him.
And if you could also prevent him from annihilating the entire human race, perfect.
You readjusted the rifle's sights and spoke to Dante through the earpiece in your ear.
"He just went through the portal, he took the bait" you warned. "Are you sure about this?"
"Of course I am, Y/N," he replied. "I don't want to fight him." He's my brother after all, so just shooting him with one of your modified bullets will be enough for now,” he murmured. “I don't want to hurt him unless it's absolutely necessary.”
“I understand. I'll wait until he's in my sights” you replied.
Vergil advanced, walking slowly but surely across the plaza in front of you.
The air was thick and dry; it almost seemed as if the atmosphere itself was preparing for the action that was about to unfold.
As soon as the white-haired man was in your sights, you placed your index finger on the trigger and waited to see what his next move would be.
You froze when he tilted his head in your direction, and despite the distance, fixed his gaze on you through the scope.
Without a second thought, you fired, hoping the bullet would hit his shoulder, but he was too fast.
You didn't even see him close the distance between you in mere seconds, and he was right behind you.
You felt his powerful presence behind you, before also noticing the sharp point of the yamato against your lower back.
"So you're my brother's human pet," he said, making you press your lips together tightly. "I should have known."
"I'm not his pet, and I don't owe you any explanations since we just met," you said. "So all I'm going to ask is that you lower your sword, now."
"You're nobody to give me orders, human," he said contemptuously, as if uttering that word hurt his throat. "I am the superior being of the two of us"
"Dante is also a superior being, and he doesn't act like he owns the world," you muttered, before correcting yourself. "Well, actually he does, but not in the way you do."
"What Y/N means," Dante began, appearing quickly beside his brother, one of his pistols pointed at his head, "is that I'm the best of the two of us, the most handsome, the most powerful, the most…"
"I think he understands, Dante," you interrupted, making him smirk. "Lower your sword so we can talk like civilized people, please."
Vergil observed you both for a few moments before sheathing the Yamato.
Dante did the same with his pistols, and you folded the rifle and placed it near you, just in case.
"We need to talk, Vergil," Dante began, his gaze fixed on the man in the blue coat. "We can't go on like this. You CAN'T go on like this. This has to stop."
"I don't understand you, little brother," he retorted sarcastically.
"You know I hate it when you call me that," he growled under his breath. "You have to cut Mundus out of your life once and for all. Tell him to go to hell and kick his marble ass to another dimension or something, but you have to stop believing everything he tells you."
"Mundus saved my life."
"Mundus manipulated you," Dante corrected him. "He made you believe that a horde of demons came to our house and killed Mom, which is true." But what he hasn't told you is that HE was the one who sent those demons – he blurted out – he killed Mom.
"That's not true," he muttered, his eyes wide. "If it were, why would he have trained me and taken care of me when I needed it most?"
"He wasn't taking care of you, Vergil," Dante murmured. "He was creating a warrior in his own image, someone who could spread his chaos to every corner of the universe without him having to leave his throne," he explained. "You have to believe me, I'm telling the truth."
"I know you don't give a damn about my word," you interjected. "But Dante is telling the truth," you murmured. "Believe it or not is up to you, but for the good of humanity, for the good of Earth and Makai, it's in your best interest to believe him."
Vergil remained silent for a few seconds before glancing briefly at his brother and finally focusing on you again
"I see why my brother likes you" he said. "You're different species, but deep down, very deep down, you're the same." He tilted his head toward Dante. "Like Mom and Dad."
"Like Mom and Dad" he repeated, a hopeful smile spreading across his face.
"So… does this mean you're on our side?" you asked. He rolled his eyes, visibly tired of so much negotiation.
"First, let's stop Mundus from reaching Earth" he conceded. "Then we'll see" he added, causing you and Dante to exchange victorious smiles.
I really like this outfit :3
