What will it be like if Tai/Sora and Matt/Mimi experienced DNA Digivolution?

It was at this moment, dear reader, Gen realized she really needs to rewatch the DNA Digivolution arc in 02.

Anyway.

Different DNA Digivolutions Pt. 3

Tai/Sora

Because Tai and Sora, there's most certainly an argument involved, but it's not over some miscommunication or petty teenage things or what have you. It's probably a friendship-hinging sort of argument, and pretty much the entire group is tense because of it

So they go into the fight not looking at each other, thinking everything is fine, but everybody else is taken down, Birdramon and Greymon are struggling to stand, and Sora is nearly hit with something, so Tai dives over and shoves her out of the way

Tai is down because he took the brunt of the attack, and Sora calls him an idiot (because he is), and he tells her something sappy because this is Digimon, and BOOM DNA Digivolving

Their combo Digi is a phoenix T-rex thing? Or just a rad dino with flaming wings and headcrest thing, and FRANKLY I want a figurine of that

Matt/Mimi

Okay, I know a lot of people ship these two, AND THAT IS VALID, but oh boy I cannot think of any extraneous direct interactions they had in the series (I was staring at Tai most of the time 😔), BUT WAIT, this is exactly what their DNA Digivolution hinges on

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they have these complete weird perceptions of each other, so they talk to each other and misunderstanding ensues because they have the totally wrong ideas about each other, so now they're just at a loss and wondering why exactly they're friends

SO of course a fight happens and Mimi notices Matt being really worried about Gabumon and Matt sees Mimi tending to an exhausted Togemon, and suddenly it clicks that they totally got the wrong ideas, and BAM!

A plant wolf is terrifying, so let's just say an Ent (Treebeard ftw) mixed with like the Weregarurumon type of stuff, and that's what their combo looks like

This is very interesting! I've always wondered this myself.

New DNA Digivolutions (02)

Davis/T.K.: I feel like their first Digivolution would happen in a similar way that Kari and Yolei's did. Except there would be more than just one slap. It would be a full blown Tai/Matt fistfight. Tai and Matt wanted to come between them, but by the time the boys had a heart-to-heart, Patamon and Veemon had Digivolved into some sort of dinosaur angel. And yes, it would be even cooler than Paildramon. Not miffed that Paildramon lowkey beats out Omnimon in terms of coolness sometimes a;sdljfksa;djfa

Cody/Yolei: This would be like the "duh" DNA Digivolution that Ken and Davis's was. They would both help each other out in some way, hug it out, and next thing we know, we've got an armored bird-armadillo thing. Cody would leap on Yolei's shoulders to cheer the Digimon on, and it would just be a grand ol' time.

Ken/Kari: Something Dark Ocean-related would happen here. I'd hate to put them through that again, but I feel like they'd get trapped there again. Or let's pretend the episode where Yolei was there too is replaced by this. So anyway, the only way for them to get out is for them to work together, and that turns into a bug-cat Tales of Wormmon and Gato-Noir angel thing. Everyone would be relieved they're okay, but they'd also be bummed they missed the show.

Davis/Kari: Okay, well this would come with some lesson about not putting people on pedestals. Kari would probably have to tell Davis she's not as perfect as he seems to think she is, and Davis would either have to come to terms with that or confess his feelings, leading to an exchange of honesty. It would be pretty interesting to see. Honesty is the best policy for DNA Digivolutions, I guess?

Ken/Yolei: Why do I want to make some excuse for them to have some epic shoujo anime kiss? Well, anyway, there would have to be a whole "Ken you're not a bad guy" type of thing, since I assume baby Ken will always keep some of his guilt with him. And Ken would realize Yolei had forgiven him, lots of warm and fuzzies, and then BIG BOY BUG-BIRD. (Try saying that three times fast.)

Davis/Cody: I'm stumped here. I really am. Maybe something about Cody realizing Davis is more than a jock and Davis realizing Cody's more than just a quiet kid? Seems kinda like the Joe and Matt dream bonding team. Of course, the DNA Digivolving stuff happened after these two would have already learned this about each other, so there might be something else happening here. But the point stands that a dinosaur-armadillo would probably be the most aesthetically cool Digimon. (For me, at least.)

T.K./Yolei: This is a weird partnership, and I say that because their relationship in general is so easygoing I'm not sure what type of conflict would need to be overcome. They have the easiness of, like, Kari and Sora--not much screentime that I can remember, but still clearly care for each other. Maybe it would involve them having to team up together to save Cody and trying to figure out how they vibe. Then BAM--bird angel.

Hm, this one is interesting.

Friend, I’m going to have to ask you to stop using the word “canon” since by now we should now my bullshit is nowhere near canon a;ldsjkfa;sldjk;fasjdfas (also, everyone has a different idea of canon pairings, so let’s not start any undue shipping wars not that anyone who follows this blog would do that, right?)

So, in the case you’ve stated, minus the canon bit:

I’m going to let myself a little off the hook here and not bring up the Wikimon and try to figure out what the Digimon product of this would be, so let’s all imagine a cross between Exveemon and Aquilamon... feathered dragon, maybe?

Anyway, because of their tendency to conflict with each other (even in a romantic scenario), they’re probably the last of the three duos to DNA Digivolve

Knowing them, it would probably happen when, during a fight or something, Yolei or Davis nearly falls off some sort of cliff (because the Digital World has a bajillion of those) and the other catches them right before something bad can happen

Cue dramatic music and staring into each other’s eyes and then a long hug when they’re finally not in imminent danger

Afterward they realize their Digimon DNA Digivolved and they nearly faint from the shock of the feathered dragon in front of them

If they were truly meant to be the ones with the DNA Digvolving, they would have done it long before 02, methinks

A perfect time would have been the Piedmon thing, but that was also MagnaAngemon’s time to shine, so maybe not

In any case, if we’re talking romance here, maybe a time in which Kari’s in some sort of emotional trouble, T.K.’s panicking, and with the wind blowing through their hair, he screams that he loves her, dammit

So of course the two angels fuse into an even bigger, more badass angel and everyone practically bows down because hot damn this is what we always wanted

Cody/Ken

Well now I can’t help but imagine Ken always hugging Cody from behind and resting his chin on his head ;w; dammit

So their DNA Digivolving would come to pass because something happens and a projectile attack or some sort of debris flies toward Cody, and because he’s small and we love him, Ken dives in and pushes him out of the way

Yes, this involves Ken getting a little hurt

There’s some tears and screaming, and then Armadillomon and Wormmon become... uh... I can’t imagine what sort of Digimon they’d turn into, but maybe it’d be a mammal with an insect-like exoskeleton? Sure, let’s go with that
